I realize I jumping in the middle ;D ;D ;D so you can ignore me and my feeling wont be hurt. I read once that the standard rule of thumb for parties is to invite the same number of guests as the child is old. 3 yrs old... three guests. [laugh] That has *never* worked with my daughter - the kid's been the neighborhood pet since she could walk. We have a gaggle of kids who all play together. I had the only toddler who got regularly invited to the six-year old parties! The only difference is now she's now *also* getting invites from classmates her age on TOP of the older neighborhood kids who she invites/gets invited to parties. How two relatively introverted parents wound up with a butterfly like her astonishes me. I stuck to smaller parties until my daughter started JK, and then that rule fell apart! LOL Hoppers- I have an only child, also! She is also a major extrovert and I'm just the opposite. The combination has been good for me! Sorry it took so long to get back to posting. RL has been very hectic, I only had time to lurk and read a few pages here and there. All of this is OT...hmmm.... I'm on the RCAEd is an Ass team! Is there one of those yet? (Where is the laughing smiley?)

Hi tigerlily! *waves* We don't have a laughing smiley! Q3 said she might try to add a few smileys to the ones we have on this forum, so we're hoping for a good laughing face!

I'm also from the 'liberal' Bay Area. My neighbors of a quarter-century were gay. They were my family. They shared Thanksgiving and Christmas and Fourth of July with me, my husband and our boys. They also shared hockey games, back-to-school nights, BBQs, report cards, soccer and baseball games and swim meets, college applications (they wrote wonderful reference letters), pictures, recipes, iris bulbs, vegetable gardens, water volleyball, pets, music, summer nights, joys and sorrows and regrets - - and they held my youngest son when he was born - - even before I did. They were the parents, grandparents, and friends I longed for. I loved them so - and I still do. What they gave to my sons - inspiration, advice, love, humor, acceptance - is reflected, every day, in how I see my boys, now living their lives with self-confidence, understanding and kindness; and a fierce defiance of anything that is not true. Back in 1975, when we bought this bit of earth and built our home, our neighbors left for awhile. Later, I learned from them about their fears - that 'we would not accept them' - and, that somehow, if their orientation, their love became known, they would lose their employment and stature in the community. Amazingly, horribly, it did not surprise me at the time. At the time. I wish they were still here, and we could sit under the manzanita awhile and talk about Adam - and what has happened - and what will be. One would be philosophical and borne to examine the voice and technique; one would be dancing and exuberant and ready to toast the next performance! They would honor and embrace my passion because it came from my heart; and they were always ready to love what I loved; support what I needed to believe in. Their ashes nourish the soil by the kitchen; under that manzanita. No words will ever be able to express how they awakened and quickened me. They encouraged and fed and embraced and educated me and my family - just by being the beloved men across the driveway. In a way I want to apologize for how mundane this must read - - I cannot do this well. I wish I could; I wish I had the words. They deserve excellence. They were honest and were afraid for who would know. What a crazy world. For far too long we have failed to recognize those among us who inspire perseverance and quiet, knowledgeable courage. Inspiration gives us reason to soar. We should have been flying long ago. momtomany Your post was a thing of beauty - TY.

Susie, yes....three more sleeps until Thursday!!! OMG, I'm sooooo excited, and so nervous at the same time. When will I ever be able to anticipate an Adam TV appearance without feeling this way!! momtomany, just beautiful, and how lucky you were to be able to experience such friendship!!! Scorpio.... I'd say "never!" If I ever feel like I might be settling in with my Adam fangurlyness.... all it takes is for a live performance to be announced and I seriously go right back to feeling all twisted up inside just like AI8 days. I love it!! Susiefierce.... I love the "three more sleeps." Reminds me so much of Glittergma counting down the sleeps to... what was it, the Council Bluffs concert? And Momtomany, thanks for sharing the heartfelt memories of your dear friends. It's a real gift to be able to share what's in your heart so beautifully. Mangokat... I saw you peek in to Atop. {{waves!}}

Wow! Just caught up with the thread!! Just wanted to comment on RCA Ed and RCA overall. He is a marketing/promo guy and not a PR person. (It shows.)
I think he does his job pretty well except for fan relations -- which he regularly just blows. I honest do not think either AO.com or ALF.com do a very good job of customer experience/relationship management. That is my specialty and not RCA's strength.
But RCA and RCA Ed (and ADAM) have done a great job bringing fans lots of product!! He is the first Idol to have a concert DVD.
On the overall criticism of RCA's handling of Adam ---- I think it is overly harsh. They did pick the wrong first single (FYE) but that is really common. It is really hard to predict a hit song. The good news is that they had WWFM in the wings and promoted the heck out of it.
Never underestimate the effort it took to get Adam played on US radio at all. I know a little of the behind the scenes effort on FYE and WWFM -- it was brutal for the RCA field team.
Why didn't RCA promote Sleepwalker to US radio? Because they could not make money on the promotion. It would have wasted a lot of Adam's and RCA's money. Better to save the money for Adam 2.
TFM promo was run by Columbia not RCA. There was never a plan to release it to radio anywhere It did get picked up in Asia. RCA and Adam did not want the first single sent to radio to be a classic rock retro track. (They were right.)
Adam is very successful in the US. He has done about 60% of recorded music sales in the US, and earned about 75% of total revenue in the US. No he is not Gaga or Bieber -- but they are anomalies.

So, I wonder: Why is Ed in charge of fan relations? He obviously doesn't want to be and shouldn't be. Don't they have someone more chill and fun? I vote for Chunkey, btw... she got it how one should reply to fans who may or may not be too much at times. Humour is the best weapon! And: I never go to AO and as I read through this thread many people avoid it like the plague. My main reason is it's uncomfortable and plain hurtful for my eyes. I really wonder who was in charge of THAT.
