So glad an audio equipment expert chimed in. I am out of my element there. But I thought that, if the equipment could change melody lines, notes, and length without changing the key at all, it would still sound a little distorted or electronically tampered with. The beginning phrase of the remix sounds so totally Adam's natural voice. thanks, gelly! Don't worry about the English! Oh no, I've gotten into a debate with 2 of Adamtopia's finest posters on my first proper day here. :-[ Ok, my boyfriend and his decks doing it wasn't the best example because Billboard will be messing with it at the source. He'll have the DNA of Adam's original vocal in front of him and could do whatever he wants to melody, note, key, etc. with the standard of professional studios he'll have at his disposal. Art of Noise were doing the primitive version of it with a human sample through a keyboard in the 80s. The idea of that even being possible makes me really sad . To me, that's Adam's voice, clear as a bell, singing completely different musical phrases than I've heard before. Personally, I don't think Adam would have sanctioned that anyway; it's too radical a change for him to accept. He's too honest

Just got home and had the chance to blast listen to Aftermath remix in the car with great speakers.
It is wonderful. I normally get bored quickly with the remixes, but I have to say this Billboard guy really uses the instrumentation and electronics in service to the voice and the lyrics. He's kind of a genius.
Adam starts out with what I call his "caressing" voice... velvety, friendly and intimate, as if he's focusing his attention on one person-- perhaps a child who is in pain and scared. He's saying, 'hey, I see you, I can see you've lost your way, but I'm here now. You can feel safe with me." Adam is, more than anything else, APPROACHABLE in this song.
His tone and the melody are slightly upbeat, his crystal clear vocal invites you to listen to what he has to say. The music allows the voice to deliver message and emotion and-- important-- it builds, ebbs and flows at appropriate times. When Adam sings, "Don't be afraid of what's inside" his voice is clarion strong but the music is restrained. Restraint-- what a concept.
The percussive elements are complex.. from straight disco beat (THUMP THUMP THUMP) to little rhythmic breaks with the electronic drums, and to that syncopated base and drum interplay on the bridge. I am not sure if I'm describing these variations correctly, but what struck me was the sophistication-- and yet simplicity-- of the beats.
Adam's voice builds.. and builds.. and builds to a buoyant call for freedom and courage and action.. all the while reassuring his listener that he or she is not alone.. in the aftermath. When he sings, "All you feel is love.. love.." you feel HIS love.. and the joy along with him.. You WILL be all right. You can sing, come out, connect. Your world is full of light again.
Even the ending-- that long disco "one day one day one day".... is a joyful injection of hope for the future-- and an infectious invitation to throw off your fears and DANCE.
I think it's beautiful.

If you say it is possible, I will believe you. Whatever was done with the vocals, Adam approves, I like the sound, so all is okay with me. It is very different from the usual tweaking of vocals because the singer CAN'T FRICKIN' SING! I was just curious how much credit for the changed melody to give to Adam and how much to give to Billboard. Whoever did it, it was genius for a dance/club track that kept the vocals in the forefront. fooffy!! (May I call you fooffy?) I love the debate and the information!!! All we feel is LOVE... LOVE.... :D
