NO!! You've never heard that Adam said when he broke up (with Brad) he was listening to that song???  Its an amazing song but yes i still cry every time i listen to it... You'll have to confiscate my fan club card, too. I didn't remember that he said he listened to "Eclipse" when he broke up with Brad. Adam has never, to my knowledge, ever mentioned Brad specifically as being the man he was in love with. I think we assume that because of the pictures of them together looking fabulous and in love and because of his dedication in the liner notes of the album. Adam said the song made him cry, he didn't say why or whom it reminded him of. No need to turn in your fantard card IMO. ;D |

OHMYGOD - I LOVE the new "Aftermath"!
The song still makes me want to cry (like the acoustic does) because it is still so beautifully heartfelt and hopeful, but this version also makes me want to dance, run as fast as I can, stomp, jump up and down, and burst.
I really hope in an interview soon he's asked about the mechanics of it. If he really didn't sing anything "new," if "Billboard" (oookay) really just used what Adam's already recorded and at times stretched it, or tweaked, or turned it outside in, etc. - that's amazing to me, if what sounds like "one day" is really "(yest)ER DAY" - then I have new appreciation for the artistry of what producers do.
Just right - everything about it, for me, is just right. Hope he breaks a leg tomorrow.

The music allows the voice to deliver message and emotion and-- important-- it builds, ebbs and flows at appropriate times. When Adam sings, "Don't be afraid of what's inside" his voice is clarion strong but the music is restrained. Restraint-- what a concept. The percussive elements are complex.. from straight disco beat (THUMP THUMP THUMP) to little rhythmic breaks with the electronic drums, and to that syncopated base and drum interplay on the bridge. I am not sure if I'm describing these variations correctly, but what struck me was the sophistication-- and yet simplicity-- of the beats. Adam's voice builds.. and builds.. and builds to a buoyant call for freedom and courage and action.. all the while reassuring his listener that he or she is not alone.. in the aftermath. When he sings, "All you feel is love.. love.." you feel HIS love.. and the joy along with him.. You WILL be all right. You can sing, come out, connect. Your world is full of light again. Even the ending-- that long disco "one day one day one day".... is a joyful injection of hope for the future-- and an infectious invitation to throw off your fears and DANCE. I think it's beautiful. I think your breakdown of it is beautiful! I'm like, "Yeah, what Aloha said!!" |
