Hi Q3 do you think all this disorganization stems from which song RCA will pick?
Don't they have to pick it like NOW to give it time before launching of album.. How do they get ITunes to be on board ahead of time,so buyers can get new single on ITunes before it becomes a fading memory?

After listening to Trespassing at the NNN, I’m in love with the song. I’m singing and dancing around the house with it in my head. I would love to hear this on the radio. Why would radio not play it? Why is it considered not safe?.... I guess all of this rambling is just about why I do not understand radio. Just curious if others have thought about this and have had the same experiences. Hi all. Just wanted to delurk a minute to say I am shaking my head with you. I have been watching the NNN performance on my TV a few more times this morning, and it has all of the wow stuff that made people go nuts for Adam on AI. I LOVE this performance, and you can really tell that he is having fun and it has meaning for him. I would love to see this on AI, too! I like all of the other songs as well, but man, this is awesome and obviously fun to dance to, based on the audience reaction. I mean, how can you not move to this song?! I also think you never know what will become popular on radio--I really don't get it either. But the recorded version of this song is so great too, with the handclaps, etc., I really do think it stands out. Oh well, I loved the performance and can't wait for what's next for Adam. I'll support any song, but really just want the damn CD in my hands asap. I love his voice so much! The next month should be really exciting, if I can keep up!

IMO, NCOE may be a great "radio ready" single but it will not sell the album. It won't sound like the rest of the album. It's not "Crazy shit" Adam. I listened to KIIS LA for a straight 75 minutes while driving last night and there is NO common thread with what they are playing. ZERO! NADA! But, most of the songs were very unique! There were at least 4 that did not sound Pop friendly or KIIS friendly and they were from new artists and getting played! Will people who like NCOE even like Trespassing or Cuckoo or Shady? That's why what Susie wrote last night is like a GOLDEN post for me. We talk about "branding" all the time. Trespassing, Cuckoo, Chokehold, are all Adam's brand. NCOE is not. I am resigned to NCOE being the next single, but no matter how many it sells or how high it charts, I will never be happy that RCA did not choose songs that were Adam's mission statement for this album And people can talk about WWFM until they turn blue. What Adam needed in 2009 and what Adam needs now could not be more different.

I agree frecklesexual, but only Kelly, of late, appears to be "cool" with radio. Daughtry is getting no love this era at all. If you aren't Kelly (or Carrie) radio just doesn't really want you. I agree that Adam can break that barrier with the right song. But it is going to have to be just the right song. This doesn't mean it is necessarily his best song, or most interesting song. But he iis going to have to play along with the radio game. I do think NCOE can be that song. And, after all the time Adam and his people have spent with radio over the past month they should know just what will work and what radio will play. Pop radio has moved on from the type of music that Daughtry releases. His type of music no longer gets radio play on CHR stations. Radio has changed a great deal in the past 5 years. HAC still gives Chris tons of support for his music, he is basically an HAC artist now.

In Daughtry's case the music is the issue, not Idol. He has not evolved and music has changed. My prediction is that he finally moves closer to country/Southern Rock next album. Same for Jorden, Archie, Cook and others -- the music needs to be current and good to get airplay. Radio plays a lot of Idol music -- but there are only two Idol alums making a major play for Pop Radio airplay -- Kelly who has been hugely successful this album cycle and Adam. Carrie, Scotty, Lauren, Kellie P. and others have done really well focusing on Country radio. Idol's problem is that the last Pop-oriented winner was Kris Allen from 2009 -- that is a lifetime ago in pop music. Is there some really good Idol alum music (not by Adam or Kelly) that Pop radio should be playing?

I think radio is a chicken or egg situation. On TV, Kelly's "Stronger" got a cool car commercial, was played as one song during the NCAA basketball games, and is played on the USA Network (and its sister stations) as the background music for a new, supposedly hip TV series, Fairly Legal, about a female mediator who bucks the system. ( bucks the system means goes against for non-native speakers). Were those placements because of radio success or anticipated radio success, or did the TV promo help push radio? It seems like an orchestrated campaign for an established, recognizable singer. And you hear Stronger, and that single word tells you it's Kelly's song.
LMFAO, got the Soul (Nissan?) car commercial with cute animal characters dancing hip-hop, played incessantly. They were not well known like Kelly, and may be one hit wonders, who knows (though they have heavy media connections since one of them is related to Berry Gordy).
I think Adam has a way to go to become part of the public consciousness. Yes, he needs some radio hits, but he may track along with a career that has deeply committed fans that know entire albums, rather than one break out hit. Like many quality, long lasting singers, he may become known for his body of work--consistently hitting the mark. I'm ready for the break out hit, but there are many possibilities for that on this album. YMMV of course, but I think the visual, emotive singer will find a unique way to break through. I'm thinking Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, etc.

I was extremely interested in susiefierce's argument (that mys*&@^#r mentioned again) that Adam needs a song that's typically him, and branding him to the world. I think it's an absolutely valid argument.
But, I can't help but wonder, who says NCOE is not "typically Adam"? Just because it is not written by him? Stronger was not written by Kelly Clarkson and yet I think it is typically Kelly in every way - female empowerment anthem, with great vocals.
Similarly, I think there's a strong argument that NCOE can be typical Adam: this is a song that has great vocals, which are a trademark of Adam. I can see NCOE be nominated for a Grammy in best vocal. I don't see Cuckoo do that. NCOE is also a fun lets-party-all-night song, with a message similar to the IIHY's video.
I just feel like sometimes we, as fans, are biased by the fact that Adam did not write this. Even if he did not write it, he clearly chose it for the album (since he executive produced it), so he must strongly identify with the message and sound.

ljsmack Kelly's management would be responsible for getting those commercials, TV show, etc for her. They have done a phenomenal job for this new Kelly cycle!

ljsmack, I agree with you, the commercials definitely helped, but Stronger was already a radio's wet dream of a pop song. All people who know radio whom I talked to agree on that. It's just a very pop radio friendly song.
