With the caveat that my wish is Adam gets whatever his wishes are.... Actually someone ( saga ?) mentioned on twitter that having a female pop cameo on Naked Love for a radio edit version might make it work better for PD's as a single-- someone like Katy, Ke$ha, or Riri (although I realize getting the first and last would be quite a stretch). I think both Katy and Ke$ha would help highlight the fun silliness of the song, and an Adam video with Ke$ha in it too would be OTT and good times IMO. Also her talk/rapping style 'Hot and dangerous If you’re one of us, then roll with us ‘Cause we make the hipsters fall in love And we’ve got hotpants on enough..." would be a good contrast with Adam's voice. Lol I think of Cockrock as what Spinal Tap is parodying. I might need to check out her next album. ;D Yes, Ke$ha or another pop gal in the NL vid would be cool. I saw someone on Twitter talking about the idea of the girl character being all lovestruck over Adam and pursuing him, dreaming of "naked love," and Adam running away from her. It would be funny and cute and sexy (they could even have a bit of sexy interaction in the girl's dream segment) and at the same time it wouldn't put Adam in a false position re his sexuality. Anyway, I think it would be very cool.

It's been pretty much standard all along. It was done with WWFM off the first album and yes it was the single by release date also pretty sure Cook, Daughtry, Kelly and the others all had the same deal. Single sales are not so much focused on huge first week numbers. It's great to get that but the goals for the singles are to sell the album. They expect sales numbers to build for the singles as radio play increases. Also don't know if you realize but when you do complete the album on iTunes your previous single sales are deducted from the current sales week number and the album sale is counted for that week. No, they were not free on i-Tunes. They were only free on the official web sites. The i-tunes sales both counted and charted. Is NCOE the free download of the week on itunes? I know they give away a song every week to promote someone they think is gonna hit big. That's how I got Jar of Hearts from Christina Perry.

Curious about this, in general. For any artist, say Adele even, who has had a phenomenal amount of album sales and single sales, and reaches say Gold with a single, but then people "complete their album" why does that not affect the certifications? And why do the official sales numbers not change? For instance, I am sure some of the people who bought WWFM eventually "completed" their album. So why do the sales numbers for the single not go down when it is converted to an album sale? Also, when i-tunes asks, "do you want to comlete this album" if you say no and DL the whole album, then I am assuming the original single sale counts. The pre-sale is for a month, right? Not just for a week. The sales number DO go down when you complete the album as the previous track sale is then subtracted in the CURRENT week sales. They don't go back and figure out when you purchased it to subtract it from that week because that would be insane and probably not even possible. As for certifications you have to remember that in reality the certifications are for wholesale sales not retail. Yes the whole digital thing makes it really confusing but when dealing with the physical sales the certification is for what is shipped to the retailers and they make some sort of allowance for "expected returns" in that the retailers indicate if they would be inclined to return units not sold. For accounting purposes there are all kinds of formulas to determine things like expected returns. I am sure that iTunes by now has a pretty good idea of the expected percentage of complete you album purchases but I don't know if RIAA makes allowances for that or if the call it a wash because digital sales are more transparent to the public than physical. At any rate in terms of certification at the point the audit is done the track sale is a track sale and whether or not that changes in the future is immaterial to RIAA.

I wasn't speaking of physical CD sales at all. That is easy to manage and figure out. What's shipped is shipped minus returns, but it is an actual physical return. I was just curious about how they subtract track sales when a complete your album is made. (I never thought they would subtract it from the week the single was sold.) Surprised Adele didn't have negative single weeks with all those albums being sold! ;D Oh, here is big news! Looks like Adele might have her first week under 100,000 next week!
ETA: Carrie Underwood is not offering a free single either.
