A song can be submitted for nomination consideration by RCA but that is not a nomination. -- It is not nominated unless it is in the top 5 on the nomination ballot votes. That is why getting a Grammy nomination is a big deal. It is not just some small committee picking the nominees but the entire academy of voters. The Grammys are all over the board on the songs that get nominated. For example --
2012 Song Of The YearRolling In The Deep (winner) and Grenade were both #1 on Billboard Hot 100 All Of The Lights – single #18 on Billboard Hot 100 The Cave #27 on Billboard Hot 100 Holocene – released as a single but did not make Billboard Hot 100 There are a lot of indie musicians and producers and songwriters who get to vote. True, but Adam isn't Indie, Alt. Rock, Folk or Rap/Hip Hop, etc. Songs in those type categories are given some leadway, where Pop songs really are expected to be at least somewhat successful. |
