Adam has a brilliant album coming out. But, if they want more than just his core fan base to hear it, he is going to HAVE to conquer radio. And both Adam and RCA know this. That is why he went on an exhausting 18-city radio tour, that is why he is doing a bunch of radio concerts next month (including one for a station that has basically ignored him, but is in an important market) and that is why they postponed his album in order to record some last minute radio-friendly songs, including one by radio's current darling Bruno Mars.
This isn't angst, it is just reality. Adam has a great album, but pop success is what will lead to opportunity---opportunity for people to know it's out there, opportunity for Adam to get the exposure he needs by performing the songs in front of more than his established fan base.
NCOE is a great pop song. I have a lot of confidence right now, and things are going to be getting very exciting in a couple weeks.
eta---that is a very nice tweet from Daniel Allen, and maybe it's a good reminder that none of us really knows anything about these people and how they feel about each other

Queen fans (I am an official Queen fanclub member) are amazed how fast the tickets sold. They have never seen anything like it. This is their first exposure to Adam fans. They will learn that there are few fans more passionate than Adam fans. Their bubble will burst even further when they find out how quickly the tickets will sell whenever Adam for the next time gives a concert in the UK on his own terms and without Queen. Adam now has their attention, they are going to watch that sale from the sidelines. If they believe that Queen is selling these tickets alone and the "karaoke show singer" on his own is a 'nobody' who cannot sell tickets then they are in for the second part of their awakening still. ---- Adam does not fit neatly into a radio format, he doesn't fit neatly into a box. MY CONCLUSION: RCA is investing in Adam because they know he could become a star. They are also working to find a path to stardom using the traditional radio-centric promo path for a non-traditional artist -- and gayness is only a small part of what makes Adam different, "the other". Gay + alternative + theatrical + beyond genre + Idol??? + chameleon + 30 + + +++++ They have no idea what to do except follow the old playbook. But mark my words, the old playbook is not going to work. BUT I FIRMLY BELIEVE ADAM WILL WIN OUT IN THE END.WHAT WILL REALLY MAKE ADAM A SUCCESS? His music. RCA did one brilliant thing. They let Adam create this album. The music is great. It does not matter if there are pop radio hits on it on not. T his album is going to sell and get critical acclaim. It deserve both. What matters is where this album is in December 2012 -- hopefully still selling and wrapped as holiday gifts. I want my Adam to be Adam. I want him to be around doing wonderful music for decades.
THIS. And my prediction is that Adam will win as a live artist on the road with bigger and bigger audiences and eventually with an own TV show. All those that complain that Adam did not do this from the ground up, will end up getting their wish, he will build his world-wide audience of millions and his yet to come world fame exactly that way, from the ground up. He just needed the starting platform and idol gave him that, but from now on I believe his track will be matching that of rock groups far more than that of pop stars, even if he continues to decide to make electrodancefunkemopop.

I love it when the freaking right wing bastion that is Fox News is forced to mention Adam... in support of AI if nothing else... ;D A to the meeeen. Q3, brilliant post. Thanks. As for the Gaga comparison, she has one extremely important thing going for her that Adam does not...hetero guys love freaky chicks. Sigh. Okay, all...I have spent a truly HIDJASS morning doing RL chores that I hate because they involve cleaning and no power tools. However, thanks to Adam, Queen, Niles, and Sam, I have danced my way through most of it and even cleaned my refrigerator. I would rather undergo gum surgery sans anesthesia than clean my refrigerator. So, thanks, guys. Still #teamshadysbitch, although I continue to be surprised at how much NCOE is growing on me. Never gonna be on team NL, too poppy for moi. Off to play with power tools...have a nice afternoon you-all.

Not trying to jump on you, but it really irks me when people say this. Almost the whole album, or at least half is radio single ready, so I just wish people would stop acting as if the album was bad, and they had to go back to the drawing board to add in more "radio friendly" songs, because what he had wasn't good enough. And damn, the Bruno song was there for awhile before the delay, they just touched it up, like Adam had said, pretty much what he has been doing all along with the whole album; rerecording different vocals, getting different producers to get the songs to his satisfaction. Sorry, I just hear this a lot with nonstans with there passive aggressive comments, and it just gets under my skin.

Great post Q3! I don't comment much, but just need to say that we are watching a man do something that has never been done before and it is not going to be easy. The article Gelly posted talked about Muslims trying to block Gaga fans from going to see her and it made me think of the fundamentalist movement here in the US. Instead of evolving like we should be doing and I think we are taking a step backwards at this time. Muslims and christian fundamentalists are fighting to take control of our world and someone like Adam comes along saying it's okay to like me and play my songs. Well, unfortunately there are plenty of people in the good ole US of A who will not like him no matter how talented he is. They can't see past the gay. Adam's road will be different from any other artist who has ever started a career in the music business. He'll be remembered for his bravery in trespassing against bigotry and ignorance. In an ideal world, Trespassing would be the album that gains Adam a foothold in the pop world and makes him famous, so it will be interesting to see if that happens. If anyone can do it, it's Adam because he has everything it takes and if he can't do it, no one can. ;D

Suffice it to say it's a good thing my roommates take care of the housecleaning chores. ;D ;D
