I don't know why the Rolling Stone review used the word strident.. It means shrill and grating.. Are there different meanings that are positive for strident. Weird use in a complimentary article. I don't get it. [laughs] Strident doesn't have to mean shrill and grating! It just means prominent, in an attention-getting way. "The general's strident voice could be heard across the battlefield"So the RS review line: As for Lambert: The magnificence of his strident vocals defies all formula and precepts, mathematical and otherwise. is a GOOD thing !! :D As someone else mentioned upthread, it's more of a 4 star review than the 3 stars the writer gave it. ???

Off topic from tonight's discussions, but I was just listening again to the Kickin In snippet. In the repeated lines, something like "You can feel it kickin in" does anyone else hear, "The tequila's kickin in"? LOL, I think the shot glass lyrics in the lines just before are messing with my hearing. vbstar, I keep hearing alot of background stuff too. I listened again & it could be "tequila kickin' in"! ;D I don't even know that I agree with all the lyrics that have been posted on these songs - sometimes I think I hear different words. But there are definitely some backing tracks & backing vocals that are overlaid all through the songs. I'm dying to hear the final mix on these things. May 15th can't get here fast enough.

... Four is the absolute highest I saw. RITD got 3 and a about a 1/3. We Found Love got two stars and was panned. LOL. In all though, I can't argue with them. Though it caught on, I thought WFL was painfully stupid for the first 200 listens. RITD? a? Sorry, I get lost in all the acronyms unless its BTIKM or NCOE that I see a jillion times a day ... getting old is for the pits!

www.allaccess.com/top40-mainstream/future-releasesThere seems to be a bit of confusion about the term "add date". Yes, radio stations can add a before that date -- once a song have been released for sale OR released to radio -- whichever happens first. The most common promotional strategy is to have a few leaders add before the date but to work to line up a lot of add commitments to add on the add date. Usually the label want the single to have a big impact on the add date -- that is why it is called "IMPACTING SONGS". It is the date that the track is supposed to have the biggest IMPACT. When a label chooses an add date, one consideration is selecting a date that gives the promo field team enough time to work the single to the station PDs. Up to the add date, the promo team works to get program directors at radio stations to agree to add the song to their station on the impact date. Once the add date passes it is harder to get a song added. Yes, there are tons of exceptions to this but it is the general rule.

As someone else mentioned upthread, it's more of a 4 star review than the 3 stars the writer gave it. ??? Maybe she is leaving herself some wiggle room so she can rate other songs and/or the album higher, without having to go all the way to 5? :

Rolling in the Deep - Adele Duh! :-[ Thanks Evergreen ... I'm right there with you, JustKaren. Acronyms are my pet peeve, most likely because I usually can't remember them. Just got lucky with this one.

Regarding Rolling Stone and stars,,,,,Adam is too pop and too young to get more than 4 stars ever!! I love this article: "In the last couple decades, Rolling Stone has faced widespread mockery for giving five-star reviews almost exclusively to aging artists from the ’60s. This makes sense, as Rolling Stone is the voice of Baby Boomers everywhere, and Baby Boomers love nothing more than celebrating themselves. As long as Jann Wenner remains both undead and the publisher of the magazine, that’s not going to change. ----- "Do you know how many albums released during the 1960s received five-star reviews? 46. The 1970s saw even more. Do you know how many albums released during the 1990s received five-star reviews? Three: Automatic for the People, Slanted and Enchanted, and Metallica (The Black Album). That’s it. No Nirvana. No Achtung Baby. No Pearl Jam. No Teenage Fanclub. No Radiohead. No Beastie Boys."
