From Q3:
At my M&G in 2010 there were several young gays who were so enthusiastic about meeting Adam & seeing him live at Musikfest. I've also seen many tweets from gays that love him. So I'm inclined to agree that he has more gay fans than the gay media would have us believe.
I wonder if his appeal to straight females is off-putting to gay men. Perhaps they don't want to join the masses of women who find him "sex-on-a-stick". ;D -----
And then there's this. And not just during Idol. Still happening today - haters & FOO's. I'd bet on it!
Bottom line though - The US still has a long way to go to acceptance of diversity. It seems we have actually backslided based on the recent & ongoing political rhetoric.

[...] My Adam favorites play list on my iPod has a preponderance of pre-Idol songs, because the voice just stands on its own, beautiful and complete. So, if Adam were to make albums FOR ME, they would contain renditions of jazz and blues standards, a little bit of some of the great musical theater numbers, and new music tailored to challenging and showcasing what Adam can do better than any other singer in the world today. I know I will not get that album from Adam. I will settle for whatever he puts out. [...] But,I admit, for me, it IS settling for less than what I truly want to hear from Adam. . cassieI like some of Adam's pre-Idol music; however, to be truly honest, I don't venture there much. On the other hand, I love some of the music he's put out since Idol, especially his current LP. Was not an Idol watcher. Music to me is more than just voice, although I must admit that it was Adam's voice that fascinated me at first. Even in these current electro-modern-production pieces that we have gotten, I can still 'hear' him. His voice, to me, is unmistakable. Personally, I am more interested in seeing how Adam might will challenge himself, evolve and experiment with his artistic, musical, and vocal capabilities. I like that he is always thinking about what's next and not what was or what could have been. I want that musical ride of which he promised, and I want to see him deliver .. 8-)

Wal - this article is a great find! It seems to really articulate the issues Adam faces in trying to be a #1 POP artist, he's just too good for POP! Love it, thanks for posting, and everyone, this is a MUST READ article! eta: just saw koshka's comment, different strokes for different folks! This article to me points out the many concerns by fans that Adam is just too talented to be singing pop music, his voice is just so much better. I was just about to post a similar comment.... very quietly so as not to get banned from this forum. Given: I support Adam in whatever genre or artistic venture he chooses. Given: My opinions are just that ... MINE. Cassie. While others may strongly disagree with them, at my age, the chances of someone making a strong enough argument to cause me to change my musical preferences approach zero. So there is no point in getting into a debate with me. J/S. Adam has an incredible, magical, gorgeous voice. A one in a hundred million voice. An extremely versatile voice. But electropop dance music is not a good vehicle for letting that voice shine. Yes, he does the genre well. Yes, his vocals on these songs surpass what other pop singers are producing. But, despite the intent to make the vocals front and center, all the production, electronica, and relentless dance beat still camouflage much of the uniqueness in his voice. My Adam favorites play list on my iPod has a preponderance of pre-Idol songs, because the voice just stands on its own, beautiful and complete. I will ooh and ahh about the vocals on Trespassing, because even in the electropop dance genre, they sound better than everything else out there in pop today. But,I admit, for me, it IS settling for less than what I truly want to hear from Adam. I hope I don't get kicked off the board for writing this. I love the man and his voice so much. I just regret that my musical preferences and Adam's are significantly different. I agree with much of what you are saying. But for me it isn''t so much because Adam isn't singing my favorite genre of music, it's because pop encourages the electro sound that somewhat masks the true voice. I absolutely LOVE Adam's new songs--because they are so smart, innovative, catchy, and powerful in whatever their message. But I do think, even my favorites songs (Shady for example), mask Adam's voice somewhat. And Adam admitted auto-tuning his voice for affect on this album. I couldn't be more excited for this album but at the same time I still sink a little in side when I think about how Adam's voice isn't 100% the focus. It's a little bit like these Fault pictures. Yeah, they are pretty, but they are not pure Adam and there's nothing better than pure Adam. No matter what the style, it is Adam's voice that I am looking for. I thank Adam for making sure there is at least one song on each album that seems to announce, "just so there's no doubt my voice, on it's own, can blow anyone's out of the water, listen to this." This time we got Underneath, a real treasure! That being said, this article is ignoring what makes an artist an artist--and that is doing what they FEEL. While you may want jazz, I may want rock, others may want hip hop, we all still want to feel Adam's soul in HIS music and he is his own compass. No doubt we will all be taken to new and breathtaking places.
