On the question of why an out gay male artist is not more accepted by "the gay community",
Larry Flick has discussed that on his show, with no real resolution. Adam is not the only openly gay male singer, only the one signed to a major label. But the indie guys don't fare much better.

I really think the discomfort many gay men feel toward Adam and other gay male performers is their fear that they will be publicly identified as gay. Gay men, as much as straight men, at least from what I've read, found it as difficult to take the FYE cd, glam cover and all, to the check-out counter at Walmart.

But I do know, from twitter, Adam has a lot of gay male fans outside the US.

I thought you guys were exaggerating how bad the group Queen number was---NOPE! Forget comparing it to the EMAs--even comparing it to Kris it was awful!! What was Idol thinking, allowing them to do THAT song.???? Surely it would be compared to season 8s finale--a finale that they have never come close to replicating the power of since. A season that has been labeled as last great season. The climatic song that was sung by the contestant that is accused of ruining Idol for so many people. And sung so well that the iconic band has asked him to reprise the role in stadiums across the world. They have not only highlighted how much better Adam was, but also how much better they were. Major strategic failure by Idol! It is amazing how stupid these high priced executives can be.

For those of you going to Kimmel - Adam is so anxious for his songs to be heard - you are so LUCKY!!!! So proud of him!
