Speaking to Instinct magazine in a cover interview, Lambert said that he feels the gay community sometimes is a little "resistant" to gay male popstars. He added that whilst he feels the community is happy to celebrate "strong females", it isn't always the case when it comes to men. He said: "As a community, we're a little bit resistant to a gay male pop star ourselves Listen to Adam Lambert's new single 'Never Close Our Eyes' below: So the next question is: why is the gay community resistant to a gay male popstar? Any views? Envy? Its new and unfamiliar? I'm a gay male and that just sounds totally wacko to me ??? Plenty of successful gay popstars here like Jake Shears, Sam Sparro, Joe McElderry, Marcus Collins, Will Young.. don't see the problem.

Any views? Envy? Its new and unfamiliar? IMHO, Many gay American males haven't supported their own,in fact sometimes they have eaten their young.I.E. Out magazine's editorial on Adam a couple of years ago. Not so with lesbians who seem to embrace Adam. With the male community,I think some of it may be self hate, loving female artists more acceptable than loving one of their own.I think that is all changing with gay rights winning some major battles. It's getting a bit easier to be a gay male, more self love and more love for Adam. I'm so glad that Adam called them out. He has also called the gay community out for not being more inclusive of all LGBT people.Adam is an amazingly honest and direct person& He has shown a great deal of support for diversity in his own community. I think he leads by example. I am hoping that Adam's views and major support for equality have lead to more self reflection and more self actualization in the U.S. gay community. To add : Adam has stressed that people in the gay community are all different just as they are in the straight community. It is a dishonest portrayal to want to present one correct image of a gay male to American society.Adam has refused to fit into that one perfect mold and continues to be true to himself.I think Adam's individuality and lack of conforming may bother some gay men . ladymaserati wrote on yesterday's thread: Ladymaserati, I'm bringing your post over from yesterday, because it's so sweet and it made me want to hug you---you " weird lost child". There's gotta be a way for you to see Adam when he comes to Australia again!!! OH- seoulmat you put a big smile on my face. You're so sweet. Thank you I went to 1 Adam concert in Melbourne, but I had very bad seat. Was on very high balcony and all I could see was the lases lights. I couldn't see Adam at all. :( I couldn't use my phone because was to far, but I was still enjoyed because was Adam and his voice you can't ignore totally amazing! That night I back home with a broken heart. I cry.... I was so sad and disappointed... I say to myself: OMG! What was that? I went to the concert to see the most fascinating men on the planet and I and up with broken heart and not see him at all! Oh ye.. I cry like little girl. Many times I'm question myself : Am I ever have a chance to really see or meet Adam? Like same of you!!! That is why I'm so, so excited for each of you who ever was see him or going to see or meet him. For me is something so magical you guys can't even imagine. It is really difficult to explain. I'm sorry. All of you give me so much excitement every day with all pics, videos, links, talk, speculations, etc....about Adam and more is like magic spark to light up my days. I'm slowly with my reading and writing but I don't want missed a thing. Everything in here what you let me be a part of it, and let me to enjoy it is my daily magic moments. I'm thankful for that. Every night I thanks the universe for health and happiness for my boys...for Adam... a very, very spacial boy who come in to my life in the right time and bring me you... amazing people from around the world. Love you all for your respect to each other for the understanding for the kindness for the great sense of humour and more.....

What I see less about the music and more about the "will and grace" theory. In order to get more people to embrace idea of equal rights and marriage for gays, gay America has worked hard over past while to be just like "us" and if gay sexuality was alluded to at all it was in comedic situations (like on successful TV show Will and Grace). Adam doesn't play that game. He is who he is - he's the guy who'll kiss his base player tongue and all on national TV (as opposed to chaste nice kisses or romantic kisses). He plonks his sexuality on the table (metaphorically speaking). And that is I think what the male gay community worries about. And yes although I'm using the collective here I do realise that the gay community doesn't do anything as "one" They have worked hard to shed the "party and screw anything that moves" label that was attached to them for so long, and along comes Adam and will supporting him undermine that... easy to support the "strong women" they are no threat to status quo you're trying to build up. But then I'm not gay so what the hell do I know.

Plenty of successful gay popstars here like Jake Shears, Sam Sparro, Joe McElderry, Marcus Collins, Will Young.. don't see the problem. Lol, in U.S., a percentage of gay men know who Jake Shears is because Scissor Sisters opened for Gaga at one point, but I would BET the vast majority have barely heard of the others. Possibly Sam, if they are real independent music fans, but none of them is mainstream in the least in the U.S. Will Young? Totally unheard of. Scissor Sisters has never hit here, though they may now have a modest following. They are WAY bigger in UK than U.S. You only need to read the comments sections of any U.S-based gay press article on Adam in past three years to know he is not making this up. The comments are every bit as brutal as if it were running on a right-wing homophobic site. ETA: to Bridgey's point, it has been a funny dynamic and I've even seen a lesbian site, Autostraddle, who LOVES him, callout their corresponding gay male site. It was a couple of years ago, but was funny.
