Also worth noting is that the homophobia and self-hatred/self-reproachment that Mr. Article Writer (Love you nationalglampoon ) wrote about rather bravely, is that it is rooted in misogyny (the hatred of that which is feminine). What do Weir, Adam, "queens" have in common? They are all viewed as having the traits of a woman. All this hate comes from a weird, dark place.

There is nothing wrong with being an alpha type personality. It means that person is strong, assertive, charismatic and most of all, a leader. One does not have to be a bully or aggressive in order to be alpha. Both men and women can be alpha personalities. Adam IS alpha. He is also in touch with his feminine. we have all seen these extremes of Adam and everything in between-- the power and the camp and the subtleties of his personality. I understood that article as saying both the Adams and the Weirs of the world have their place in the spectrum of the community. Not that they are exactly alike- but that they are both outside the definition of mainstream. I agree with you that both men and women can certainly be strong, powerful ie alpha but the specific term " alpha male" is one that I think has been used historically to glorify what are seen as masculine traits - strength, dominance etc... and denigrate the feminine as weak and powerless. How complicated are human interactions when a gay reporter indirectly implies that Adam can be perceived as a 'screaming queen' by the community and I think of him as a sex god, more masculine than most of the guys I know? Today more and more men take care of themselves, go to solariums, hairdresser's, gyms... and they are not gay. They are called metrosexuals, straight men in touch with their feminine side. This is like a trend in Serbia, total craziness. More men visit beauty salons than women:))) We need to become gender-blind. I liked the article and I got its point. Sometimes I feel like some people cling to every word, picking at it ( help!!! broken english!) when the meaning is obvious... like lingering on irrelevant technicalities... Adam apologized for making generalizations, which is yet another 'technicality', everybody knew he didn't mean that all gays are catty. This hanging on phrasing rather than on meaning is ridiculous, pedantic and laughable. It's hypocritical as well, in a sense: you perfectly well understand the meaning, but you'll play mad and pretend you don't, just to incite debate or accuse falsely. WARNING: RANT IN PROGRESS!!!I wrote about that yesterday, nobody seemed to agree with me. But I'm sticking to it: both the 'catty' thing and the apology are previously conceived in Adam's beautiful mind in order to shake the LGBT community ( and others, why not) before the release. To create hoopla. Remind them of himself. It's all very carefully planned and executed. He could perfectly well foresee the reaction:)))) --------- ETA Alpha-male is a veritable psychological term:) The alpha male is a term that is generally used to describe a male that seems dominant in his social circles, seems to possess an unending appeal towards women, and displays general leadership characteristics and traits.
He is the leader, the charmer, the witty one, the guy who gets all the attention, whether he craves it or not.
The alpha male speaks in a clear and crisp way. He knows what he is talking about and has a point to make every time he decides to speak. With his deep husky voice, he allures his listeners with anticipation and excitement. To become an alpha male, work on your voice modulation and master the intonations.
The alpha male remains undaunted despite the situation he is put in. The alpha male body language is irresistible to a woman. A woman desires a man who completes her with assurance, protection, love, chivalry and intelligence. An alpha male will be in the center stage no matter where he goes or what he does. Pursue higher goals, to get the magnetic personality of the much revered alpha male. www.buzzle.com/articles/alpha-male-traits.htmlYES, I THINK ADAM IS AN ALPHA MALE

I'm sat here with my girly white hair and nail polish crying that Mr. article writer thinks I'm a bad gay Oh wait... ;D I hate people like that who think they can speak for everyone. Time to send him a tweet politely voicing my disapproval I guess my biggest thing about disliking that article is that in an attempt to write an article against stereotyping, the author is stereotyping! :-/

This article actually irritated me. I do not put Adam and Johnny Weir into the same category. To me Johnny is more effeminate, and Adam is classic might I say gorgeous, alpha male. He is categorizing them as freaks, because they express themselves a little differently, and are in the entertainment business. He is basically stating that many of the gay males have lives just like you and I. To me that is a given. Hell we (gay, straight, transgender) are all human being with insecurities, families, jobs, stress, happiness, kids, etc. I don't think we do anything differently except in the bedroom. I know Adam says he's a freak. It's okay for him to say it, but protective mamma here don't want others saying it !!!! End of Rant !!!! First let me say Adam doesn't need a "protective mama" and part of the major problem I see Adam having continually is that attitude by women who are overprotective going off and acting like they know anything about the gay community when in fact they are straight 40-50 something ladies who don't live within that community and don't have a clue how the social structure works. The writer didn't say Adam OR Johnny were freaks. He said they are what many view as the 'stereotypical' gay man, not masculine ENOUGH. Adam wears makeup, Adam wears medges, Adam wears sheer shirts and leather pants. Adam IS androgynous so while he may not be as effeminate as Johnny Weir he isn't as butch as Neil Patrick Harris either. I thought the article was great. He is saying that REGARDLESS of how the public views an Adam or a Johnny, as a community they should embrace ALL their members because if THEY don't accept them then WHY should anyone else? edited to add: I'm always put off by people who seem to try to "prove" how MANLY Adam is...like OMG he can't be compared to Johnny Weir...Johnny's so ~girly. Adam isn't Alpha or beta...he is OMEGA...he embodies ALL aspects of the male and female gender. he is strong, confident, loving, graceful, nuturing, aggressive, funny, etc. Adam doesn't need to be labeled...he needs to be able to be himself and his community needs to embrace and support him.
