Opps, screwed that up. Just want to say I totally agree with you, Rama. And let's not forget how business savvy Adam is. He wanted, IMO, the conversation to be about the song and the cause, not about what he was wearing. I think he accomplished that. I almost wonder if it's also symbolic of the kind of "stripping down" he is doing emotionally as he writes his album. He's repeatedly said he wants it to be some variation of real, raw, primal ... In other words, an authentic, deeply personal album. It seems like he is connecting with his authenticity as part of that process and is ready to really explore it. It does seem to be working because he is radiating joy, happiness and positivity even more than usual (which means A LOT!). Maybe he finds stripping away the costumes, which he loves (and we love), is part of the "getting down to the core" of who he is and what he wants to say. I'm thinking that if he was "attaching" himself to a look or style, that might subconsciously affect where he is going and he really wants it to evolve organically.

The more things change, the more they remain the same. I was reading some of my old posts at TWoP, and came across this, written by me in January 2010, in response to someone complaining about Adam's makeup:

Maybe we over-think things. Could be Sauli said he liked the toned down look. LOL
Me, I love them all. And one thing we're sure of: A CHANGE IS GONNA COME! ;D

He wanted, IMO, the conversation to be about the song and the cause, not about what he was wearing. I think he accomplished that. But - perhaps ironically - by toning it down, there IS conversation about what he was wearing. A great deal of it! One doesn't need to look beyond this thread to see it, but it goes beyond fan forums right to the broader media. The reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, but if the goal were to focus attention away from his appearance...well, I don't know if that's even possible for him anymore. Not just because he's so beautiful, but because his look - no matter what it is - has become an integral part of his performance. People know to pay attention to it. I don't mean that as a bad thing. I too have been both amused and bemused by the reactions of non-fans and former fans to AI Aftermath!Adam. It's lovely that so many have joined, or rejoined, the fold, at least for the moment. However, if they're only going to be interested in Adam as long as he tones down Teh Gay and looks and acts like a clean-cut boy next door, I don't think he needs them. If he gets some money out of them before he does something to make them re-clutch their pearls and jump ship, that's great. However, especially given that he wants to be a pop star, not a typical AI HAC artist, they aren't the type of fans he should be catering to - and I don't believe he'd be happy in the long run if he tried.

This morning I am feeling a little lonely after my youngest son called me from Martha's Vineyard. (He attends NYU, and so, for his spring break, he and his girlfriend are visiting my husband, who is working on location in Boston. I feel so happy they are all together, but then the call ends, and I feel sad not to be there with them.) So... I decide to treat myself to some on-line Adam, LOL. I find Adam's AI Aftermath performance, pull out my headphones, and settle down in my favorite chair to relax and take it all in. I sit back, letting the music flow over and through me, and allow myself to be soothed, his voice stilling all of the other voices in my larger world, creating that space where, for a moment, I exist only inside its perfect melody, his voice perfectly filling up my mind and my morning holes. I am perfectly carried along, at peace in this private inner world, right up to and through the perfect Aftermath ending, so beautiful, both the final notes and the final smile, so sweet, again, so perfect, the eyes and smile saying, "This is my gift to you, and it makes me, the giver, as happy as it makes you, so thanks for loving me. You are not alone... in your aftermath." And I want to tell Adam that, for me, he is doing it perfectly, but, of course, I can't, so I come here, where at least I can publish my thanks and be heard. And that is pretty perfect, too. Thanks, to all of you, for listening.
