On the heart versus career choice, as ksha518 points out, they don't need to be mutually exclusive, and often your heart choice can be a great support to your career--that has been my experience, even though I'd thought as a young woman that getting married would be the death of an career in the arts. In fact, ironically, it's what made it much more possible. For some people, the groundedness and security a partner gives them helps them feel freer to take bolder emotional risks, to explore their dark as well as light memories, and bring them out in their work, for example. A partner can be also someone you can bounce your craziest ideas off, or ask for help in the moment when you are stuck, and trust to get completely honest feedback from. Happiness leads to expansion, risk-taking, confidence, enthusiasm.... unhappiness can lead to depression, statis, apathy. Anyway we have no idea about the nature of Adam's relationships, and I'm just offering the above to counteract assumptions that heart vs. career is a contest with only one winner. Rabbitrabbit, I really enjoyed this post. I loved what you had to say about the effect of a supportive (I think that's the key word) relationship on creativity. On the other hand, an unsupportive relationship could have the opposite effect (unfortunately, I say that from personal experience). I also enjoyed reading what you said about the effects of happiness vs. unhappiness. I was thinking -- although I was questioning it at the same time, lol -- that too much contentment would be a bad thing for creative energy, and that discontent could fuel creativity. But you made a concise and compelling argument for the opposite. I think there's a lot of truth in what you said. And I agree, we do not really know the nature of any of Adam's relationships. We can have impressions or assumptions, but that is not reality.

midwivespal, and aloha, and geezlouise, and everybody here really.... I love our weirdness! (and our self-awareness!) This is a wonderful post. I believe this to be true. Thank you.

My take on the ‘fans’…. new or renewed, or whatever… that have stepped on the rollercoaster because of Adam’s understated look and performance on Idol. ARE YOU SURE YOU ARE TALL ENOUGH TO RIDE THIS RIDE? There is a chance you are going to get hurt, or fall off, or hurt someone else. You are going to shit your pants and want off. You are going to puke up your vanilla cone and your hot dog. It will be messy. This isn’t a kiddie ride. Adam isn’t a Club Sandwich. He is the newest creation on the menu. He is the fusion dish that a Club Sandwich eater would never try. He is a Korean BBQ Pulled Pork Taco with Wasabi Aioli. And next week he may be something very different. He is spicy… and you’re going to need a big ass bib and a huge glass of cold water to get it all down. He is an ever changing menu and the biggest and fasted ride you’ve ever been on. All in one man. Are you ready? Not only are your words profound, but they made me hungry as hell. LOL!! I was thinking the same thing! I love *culinary* variety. ;D Maybe not the puke/vanilla cone/hot dog combo tho...

Loving the conversation but too tired to make words regarding them. The only time I felt a bit of sadness about Adam changing things up was when he talked with Perez and said, looking back he thought that he may have overcompensated a bit when he was making the first album trying to put on a persona and wearing a lot of make up, he wanted to do the glam thing and he did it. It sounded so final . It was the only time I heard a touch of regret in his choices. He then said something like... don't listen to me, I'll probably come out in peacock feathers on my next cover. ;D Anyway...the reason I stopped by was to drop off this pic. Looks like the discussion about the relationship with Sauli being a + or- is moot. Adam's got a new fellow with snazzy facial hair. ;D plixi.com/p/83914835

But just have to say that I had a similar reaction to that interview; it may have even influenced some of the anxiety about his next album that I posted earlier. It makes me sad to hear Adam question his earlier choices. Glad he added the part about the peacock feathers! Not because that's what I hope he does, but because it undercuts what he said before by joking about the certainty (or lack thereof) of his previous comments. Ok, and the picture is just hysterically funny. The guy's chest!! LOL
