Catching up on the vayjayjay discussion. Y'all know I had no idea that this is their official nickname this morning when I posted? It's true. Anyway, I have had some time to catch up and have loved everyone's observations, opinions. How we refer to our most private places and how others refer to our private places is serious business. Take the word "cunt" derived from the goddess Cunti, one of the goddesses of love. Patriarchy turned the root of her name into something dirty. I am all about reclaiming the power of that word.
Vagina, if you look into its Latin roots means "sheath for a sword" and indeed it's context is connected to war trophies of the Romans after raping and pillaging. I hear the female anatomy referred to in many ways as my profession exposes me to that particular body part over and over again. Most women prefer proper terms, or some private way of referring to themselves. Vayjayjay is not as uncommon as you would think. The twenty something generation seems to use it rather frequently. For myself, I prefer yoni, as its origins are not quite so violent as the word vagina. I keep it professional and use scientific terms as much as possible, but if a woman shares a slang term that she is comfortable with, I use her language.

Heh heh. So royally messed up my quote I'm gonna start again! www.cnn.com/2012/05/01/showbiz/music/queen-tribute-tour-rs/Queen gears up for tribute tour 'Extravaganza'By Dan Hyman, Rolling Stone updated 5:03 PM EDT, Tue May 1, 2012 ... The tribute tour is just one of the projects that Queen have planned for 2012. Taylor and May will also play five Queen shows in Europe later this year with singer Adam Lambert on lead vocals. According to Taylor, Queen will perform in Moscow, Ukraine and London. He described the Ukraine show as a "very big outdoor" co-headlining gig with Elton John; the London gigs will take place at the Hammersmith Apollo. "We were hoping to do a festival in London, but for various reasons that didn't happen," Taylor said. Lambert, who performed with Taylor and May on the 2009 "American Idol" finale, has long been on the duo's radar. "Brian and I have seen quite a lot of his shows," Taylor added. Any plans to perform with Lambert beyond that are unclear for Queen, who have toured on a handful of occasions over the past decade with Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers. .. (more) [comes in sucking lolly] [grins] Is it just me or does Brian May look more and more like Sir Isaac Newton with each passing year? ;D Need oil paintings STAT! I haven't figured out how to copy picture urls on my phone yet. Paste away! You'll laugh!

Great thread. Great discussion. Different valid viewpoints are being shared in a respective manner. How one perceives things is all based on personal context. What I find funny may be offensive to others. I don't take it as anyone trying to make me change my mind, in fact the dicussion opens my mind and makes me more aware of other people's sensibilities. It's all good. I will try to be respectful to the board. However, I like the shallow end as well as the deep end. RL is serious enough. I've done the activist thing first as being black and an women. I am now doing the living thing. Life is grand, and funny, and moving and meaningful. It's just easier if a little of the ridiculous is thrown in on the side. J/S. IMHO I need Seoulmate's " YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS POST" gift Ditto.

Well, judging by things I have seen there are definite words & jokes used by the gay community that the straight community does not use. The UD is full of them! I don't mean it as derogatory or celebratory. It just is, like any group that has their "in" language and jokes. mys*&@^#r, hope you don't mind if I ask if you would have a different reaction if a non-gay male performer, for example Chris Brown, were to call his backup singers "The Vajajays"? I'm curious whether the fact that Adam is gay has any impact on your feeling about the use of the term. Haven't read the whole thread yet, so I'll respond as I go along. First, I am personally offended by everything Chris Brown says and does but that is because I perceive him as thug. And as a thug that is being rewarded for being a thug. But if I could use a different person, say Steven Tyler, then "No" I would not be offended in the least. I just don't see "vajayjay" as offensive.

This thread is definitely having a Broken English moment. Unfortunately(sp), we don't have the advantage of sharing body language on the board.
