Is the term "pearl clutcher" really necessary for people who have different opinions on this topic? ITA ITA you agree that it is necessary ?

Great thread. Great discussion. Different valid viewpoints are being shared in a respective manner. How one perceives things is all based on personal context. What I find funny may be offensive to others. I don't take it as anyone trying to make me change my mind, in fact the dicussion opens my mind and makes me more aware of other people's sensibilities. It's all good.
I will try to be respectful to the board. However, I like the shallow end as well as the deep end. RL is serious enough. I've done the activist thing first as being black and an women. I am now doing the living thing. Life is grand, and funny, and moving and meaningful. It's just easier if a little of the ridiculous is thrown in on the side. J/S. IMHO

Adamtopia is frequently informative, often amusing, sometimes profound, sometimes banal, occasionally offensive, occasionally contentious and argumentative, often remarkably kind and supportive. Sounds a lot like life itself, right? I would not stick around here if Adamtopia weren't all these things, and more. Groupthink and no tolerance for diversity has no appeal for me.Enough restriction and sadness in RL, glad to have some freedom here (IMO)

Any ATopian looking for a topic for a masters or doctoral thesis? "Projection of Facial Characteristics onto British Academics Affected by Fundamental Sonic and Gravitational Forces"? "Effects of Audible Sonic Waves on Bipedal Resting States"? "Community Dynamics in Electron-Based Two-Dimensional Formats"? ;D ;D ;D

I can't speak for anyone else but when I say "Why is this so hard to understand?" I am seriously asking the question. All of my life I have been so out of step with most of the general public that if I had not found Science Fiction fan groups and roll playing game groups I probably would have crawled into a corner and pulled a blanket over my head. I am frequently mystified by the realization that many many things that seem perfectly obvious to me require detailed explanation for people to understand. It wasn't until I finally found a few others whose brains seemed to work like mine that I finally began to realize that everyone processes information differently. I make sense of other people by gradually learning how they seem to process information so that I can communicate more clearly. So when I say that I am TRULY trying to figure out what the roadblock is in communication because I DON'T assume that people are stupid, I assume that I have failed to explain in a way that works for them. The only truly stupid people are those who REFUSE to learn or communicate. EVERYONE is capable some just have to work harder and longer than others. Communication is always possible given enough time and effort and perseverance (like how many tries it took me to spell that right). My brother had even more trouble than I did with this kind of thing and when people would say why don't you understand to him I would rephrase what they were trying to get across in a way that I knew he would get. They knew he was smart they just didn't communicate in a way the he understood. It wasn't really about language it was about the way things were presented.
