Presales count in the first week of sales.
This has been discussed before, many times, and it's a pretty certain fact.

mindchnger @mindchnger so someone at pulse predicted 100k for trespassing first week. I WOULD BE SO TOTALLY OK WITH THAT :D that's more than I expect tbh i wonder what the presales total will be - and whether they count towards the first week of sales. ??? Based on retail chart positions, Trespassing presales will be less than for FYE since FYE was one of the Top 10 in Amazon history (as of 11/09). This was one of the few times a retailer released any info about presales -- and it was because of SuBo who set all-time records. The pre-orders count in week one.* They are critical to having a strong week but most of Adam's week one sales will come from Wal-Mart, Target and Best Buy stores. So a lot depends on how Idol goes. They other consideration is the "Glambert Factor". Adam fans are so passionate and overbuy their numbers. Core fans buy multiple copies of his music. This is unusual. * The rules on counting pre-orders as sales are simple and public. No guessing about IF they count. They count.

Yup. I love Adam and agree with him on this one, but really wish he had stopped with the first part. The "wipe the floor" part is a little unkind and these kids are all so young. And, they probably all look up to him as an Idol star. Idk, why does he always have to do something like this right before he's got something big coming up--i.e., his album drop and his Idol performance? Love him, but wish sometimes he would apply the filter a bit. I'm kind of hoping he wakes up, realizes how it sounds, and deletes that part, at least. Just my opinion. If there is one thing Adam is passionate about, it's singing. He lives with the frustration of injustice in the music world everyday. He sees over and over how talent is overlooked and also has lots of friends who are talented and struggling to get the recognition they deserve. I think it is ok that he is emphatic about this. This will not blow up in his face. It is only contest, and everyone has their favorites. He highlighted that this is a singing contest. Who's gonna argue that Adam doesn't know singing. Seriously, and one thing Adam does is express his truth. We wouldn't want it any other way. He's going to be there on the 17th and facing these guys one-on-one. He has the expertise to back up his opinions. If the contestants are smart, they'll bug him for advice.

Adam and Ellen are the only 2 that are gay! There were some HOT pics on the site. I had to stop and stare for a little bit. I saw only Madonna's, I couldn't find where I should click to see others. Do they have Adam? I like Adam's #1 spot among gay males, esp now when he's trying to get more support from LGBT community, but the Metro list isn't explained, what was their criteria, and such. It's not serious. Or I don't get it.

I think 100k for opening week for Adam (Pulse prediction) is on the optimistic side but hey, I'll take it. It really depends, I think on: a) how smashing his performance is on Idol. He needs something more along the lines of WWFM on Idol, and less along the lines of Aftermath on Idol or even NCOE on Kimmel. He really needs to do something special. b) the other promotion he has lined up that week. I think it also majorly depends on whether RCA or his management have negotiated some sort of deal with Amazon, iTunes, etc. I know that Kelly's album had an Amazon mp3 special for $5 - that's why I downloaded it, otherwise I never would have. If Adam gets something like this it would push his number up. Of course, there's no indication that he will. Just my hopes. Depending on Adam's sales numbers and those of the others, it will be interesting to see who gets #1 on the Billboard chart that week. His competition is going to be Glee Graduation, Carrie (in her third week tho, but she's expected to open with 300k and has a ton of promo lined up in her secon week), Adele (around 75-80k this week but she's slowing down), and possibly Lionel Riche who's still selling like a boss (around 70k expected for him this week). Based on all this, I am cautiously optimistic that Adam might open at #1, but I wouldn't bet my right hand on it just yet, not until we know more about promo. Either way, top 3 opening week I think is very likely. ETA: Oh, and it depends also on who releases week of May 8, if they are going to have a strong second week. I forgot who does and I've been trying to find that info but I can't now, so... yeah.

I haven't watched AI this year, so I don't know the voices. However, as I was flipping thru channels looking for something else I briefly saw this Phillip fellow doing a 60s number. The voice was painful.
I was glad to read Adam comment about it being a singing competition. If anyone has the expertise to comment on singing, it's Adam. I'm tired of everyone (even Adam in the past) always saying, "They all have great voices." No, they don't.
I don't see anything mean or even harsh about "wipe the floor". He was commenting on the voices only, not on the total performer or the person. It irritates me that it seems our country has become so concerned with enhancing self-esteem and protecting the feelings of others that we don't give honest feedback. Not only does it give some a false sense of the quality of their work, but, it fails to acknowledge those who truly excel in what they are doing. We end up with a bunch of mediocrity.
Perhaps I am sensitive about it today because I am doing grading for my college class. In order to document that I am being fair, and to inform the students exactly how they will be assessed, I have had to develop templates that do a breakdown of the tasks or points of the assignment. "One point for every reference given, up to a maximum of five points" for example. "One point off for every error in spelling or grammar." I am being forced to reduce my judgment to a quantifiable formula instead of looking at quality.
Yes, student A included all the talking points required for their essay. Yes, she wrote in grammatically correct English. So, using my rubric, she gets the maximum points, even though her essay was pedantic and ordinary. Student B wrote an essay that was insightful, looked at things with a new twist, brought new ideas to the table and conveyed her ideas clearly and cleverly. Using the rubric, she gets the same number of points as student A. If she makes two typos, she gets LESS points. Even tho' her essay was brilliant.
Problem is, I cannot quantify "brilliant," or "insightful" or "clever." So I cannot assign it points. So I cannot recognize the superior work of one student over the others. (But, hey, I will have my rubric to validate the assigned grade should a student file a grade appeal.)
How do we quantify what makes a great voice? "I know it when I hear it," or "It gives me goosebumps" doesn't cut it. "He makes me want to listen to music again," is not a valid measure unless you can provide statistics on how many minutes per day you used to listen vs. how many minutes you listen to music since discovering Adam. So, listeners argue and nit pick about a singer's ultimate range: "She can sing five octaves", "He hits the high B." Ignoring Adam's question, "But, does it sound good?"
Maybe we can determine that a student knows the dates of major civil rights legislation. But that tells us nothing about what the student understands about the issues involved in civil rights or the impact of the legislation. In the same way, maybe we can quantify singing by the size of a singer's range and the number of seconds he can hold a note before running out of breath. But, that tells us nothing about the quality of the voice, the sensitivity, and the artistry of the singer.
Adam comes out and speaks the truth as he hears it. "@jsanchezai11 is a STAR. @jledetai11 sangs fo the blood. They wipe the floor with the other two. Its a SINGING competition. #keepinitreal" Not a comment that can be substantiated by having each contestant clean Adam's kitchen floor. And probably not "politically correct" or self-esteem building. But, I found it refreshing.
Oops, I better stop my rant and go back to grading. Sorry 'bout that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY cookeejar, laceyrose, AND 4lifecrisis!!Been out of the country for the past several days and have been trying to catch up. Yikes....Adam doesn't make that easy! Listened to the new snippets.....hmmm....can't say any moved me to play on repeat, but to be fair they're much shorter than the others. During my 7 1/2 hour drive up to Toronto and back, I spent most of my time flicking through radio stations in an effort to catch NCOE. No luck....even while driving through the Wilkes-Barre broadcasting area. (Dear Gawd there are a lot of country stations ) Came home to find my "Instinct" Magazine. SQUEEE!! Gorgeous cover, nice article and photos! (Still very pleased with THAT $5.95 purchase). Adam's comments about AI contestants. I chuckled, but must admit that "wiping the floor" is a tad harsh. I love him for saying what most of us think, and I certainly understand where he's coming from..but maybe not the best choice of words. Jessica is definitely a STAR and Joshua is the only person since Adam who has piqued my interest. I don't think he has near as good a voice as Adam (over sings and gets knocked off pitch and/or sounds thin and weak) BUT he's exciting to watch. His rendition of "When a Man Loves a Woman" is stellar....anyhoo I've got a hundred real life things to attend to, and yet I spent my morning reading ATOP, voting on every site I could find a link for, and making my NCOE radio requests. .......back into my daily routine. ;D c assie: just read your post. I agree that Adam is one of the few people who is qualified to make the "wiping the floor" comment and it's refreshing to hear some legitimate critiquing on that show. That said, in THIS particular case, I do feel for Holly who (I think) has a very good voice - but is robotic and has no stage presence. It IS "a singing competition". Hehe...
