I've got a hundred real life things to attend to, and yet I spent my morning reading ATOP, voting on every site I could find a link for, and making my NCOE radio requests. .......back into my daily routine. ;D That's awesome!

I think 100k for opening week for Adam (Pulse prediction) is on the optimistic side but hey, I'll take it. This was not a "Pulse prediction". It is a post made by an anonymous poster on the Pulse Music Forum. The poster claims to have "inside information". It appears to be an early market forecast from a trade source. We will get real forecasts next week, on Tuesday. ETA: I will be happy with anything north of 70K and a top three chart position. But I want > 100K and #1. BUT you know what the Stones sang --"You can't always get what you want."

I hesitate to say his name for another reason; I do talk a LOT about him but there's this annoying thing that when I pronounce his name in the finnish way it sounds REALLY stupid. And I can't pronounce it in the american way because first it's difficult and second it sounds weird in the middle of finnish discussion. Annoying little problems. ;D And it's funny to hear how other finns pronounce it: Adum Lammbert or Ädäm Lämbert... (sometimes I keep replaying his name in my head like ticking of the clock: A-DAM A-DAM A-DAM... ) (finns: or like the christmas song tiptaptiptaptipetipetiptap: a-dam a-dam a-a- adam a a dam.) I never thought of this -- too funny. I'm not great at phonetics but, I guess, we North Americans say his name: Add - um. How is his name spelled in the Finnish newspapers? Just curious -- the same or different? The same of course. We don't change the way people's names are spelled. And it's not difficult to say Adam (though I do almost always say his name the finnish way because it's so much more simple) but Lambert is more difficult... And when you say his whole name it sounds pretty silly - I have to say it like with really low voice. And if I try to say his last name in the american way it sounds like I'm just mumbling something... "Adam lambjhrit." This is just my opinion but his name doesn't sound "cool" because it's so difficult to say.

I'll admit that I don't keep up with numbers. Have album sales dropped that much in the last 2 years? FYE had 200,000 on opening week, correct? Why are we expecting first week sales so much lower?

Adam hasn't been shy about expressing his opinion on Idol contestants in the past. No reason to expect this now. My only hope is that Steven Tyler is coherent enough when Adam performs to realize that there were some amazing singers on past seasons --- and one is named Adam Lambert. Perhaps he can then reassess his opinion of "greatest". Steven Tyler has added nothing to the panel IMHO..In a way it's kind of embarrassing, but I guess he's crying all the way to the .......

Cassie
Problem is, I cannot quantify "brilliant," or "insightful" or "clever." So I cannot assign it points. So I cannot recognize the superior work of one student over the others. (But, hey, I will have my rubric to validate the assigned grade should a student file a grade appeal.)
How do we quantify what makes a great voice? "I know it when I hear it," or "It gives me goosebumps" doesn't cut it. "He makes me want to listen to music again," is not a valid measure unless you can provide statistics on how many minutes per day you used to listen vs. how many minutes you listen to music since discovering Adam.Yes, you cant quantify greatness. We live in a culture which has as its centre of gravity the "rational-scientific" mindset. This mindset aims to observe, quantify, measure, repeat results, prove by repitition. And what cant be measured, or captured in logical language, is often not seen at all. The other thing I think is that there is vast range of human beings. And they are attuned to different bandwidths, frequencies. Some humans just cant "see" what some other humans can "see", even if at the core we are all one. In a sense trying to quantify and standardise is meant to iron out those variations in "seeing" so that everyone gets equally assessed. But in that process, we miss Greatness. Greatness in human beings is the most beautiful thing to behold for me. And i do mean more than singing talent, greatness of heart and mind count with me, and greatness of the broken open soul. But its in the realm of the ineffable.. though utterly F-able, . ETA: and there's a lot of greatness I just cant see. Maybe one day...
