THIS. Jeez, I mean, I am of course against illegal leaks and protecting artists' interests and so on, but the album is OUT! People are receiving it in the mail. THIS IS NOT A LEAK. Also meant to add: Just agreeing with posters ahead of me, Adam's album has been very tightly protected and has not leaked. Definition of music leak: a part of an album that is made public BEFORE the label or artist decide to do so. The label started shipping albums, so clearly they are at the point where they are making it public. How is this a leak? So at this point if everybody who received a copy decides to post it online, I personally think it is beyond fair game. People do this all the time once the album is out (and now it is technically out) and nobody cries fowl. This is the nature of the music industry nowadays. You can't stop people from putting albums online once they are out, it would be like trying to catch water with a sieve. I agree. A "leak" occurs before an album is complete – it's speculative, unfinished work and can damage word-of-mouth if it's not good. This album is done. It has been finalized, pressed and shipped. At this point it is NOT a leak, it is a PR and word-of-mouth builder. Labels know this, that's why they stream ahead of time. Many people don't like to buy products sight unseen (or unheard). Whether it streams today or in the wee hours Sunday night Monday morning (which will be midnight NZ time) (LOL, I had to look it up, midnight NZ is 5:00 a.m. Monday for PST) it makes no difference. Those who will know have likely already bought. Those who are going to download illegally will do so anyway. They'll do it today, Tuesday or five months from now. We WANT the world to hear this album!!! Now, Tuesday, May 15 and for months and years afterward.

I'm assuming that some Glambert somewhere on this earth is busily typing up the lyrics so they are more readable. Or....has that already been done and I missed it?

But won't it hurt Adam's sales for it to be leaked and downloaded worldwide more than a week before official release?
If you have already downloaded it , where's the incentive to buy the album? :-/
If it's not illegal, I still think it's unethical. Just doesn't sound right to me. :(
It's like saying to Adam - hey we don't need to pay for your music - we got it for free. haha.
ETA- well - he's up to #38 on Amazon so at least some people are paying for it.

Just doesn't sound right to me. :( Most albums are streamed online anywhere from a week to 2 weeks before release. Piraters will rip from those streams and make the album available even though the quality is not high. The point everyone is trying to make is that pirating is not something that just happens before release. If someone is going to download illegally they are going to do it whether the album is officially out or not. Also this is not going to hurt Adam any more or less than it hurts ANY artist. ALL artists are affected by illegal downloading but whether that happens before or after release is really meaningless.

NOTHING is going to stop that from happening. The only difference is WHEN it happens. If they are going to buy (or have already purchased) they are going to buy/purchase regardless. The job of the streaming is to build buzz for the album. That is why labels employ it as a marketing tactic. That is why they release snippets and send to media. They WANT people to hear about it and talk about it and make others who haven't heard curious enough to check it out.
