I'M BAAAAAACK! I cannot tell you how much I missed all of you and this special place. And Adam, of course. There is no way I can catch up with five days of posts, but, according to tinafea yesterday, there was not much Adam news. Don't know if I am happy that I didn't miss it or sad that there is not a bunch of wonderfulness to come back to. So, is there anything I NEED to check out? A good starting place? Or just start at the end and work back? Start with what you thought of the Idol performance! Trying to pull me into the debate? Was he singing flat? Was he right on? Well, at the risk of being kicked off right after coming back, I am on the "it's a little pitchy" side. The first phrase he bobbled a little on "lost", and in the next phrase, was a bit flat on the next to bottom note. Sorry. Having said that, after about the first minute he found his footing and delivered a beautiful rendition. It was tender in parts, full power in others, and so present in sound and in appearance. He was singing directly to the audience and the camera. It incorporated his beautiful melodic voice, and his rock edge --- and, as is always the case with Adam, there was emotion and purpose to his shadings and colors. I never got the impression that he was singing to impress us with his voice -- as is so prevalent in the contestants this year, IMO. He surrendered himself to the song and the message with confidence and talent. I thought it was a masterful "rebranding". Adam saying, "yes, I can be outrageous, campy, OTT and glam, but I can also be totally heartfelt and accessible. With me, you CAN have it all." None of us can see inside his head and know exactly why he makes the artistic decisions that he does. My guess is after Idol he was like a kid in a candy store. Finally able to execute all the theatricality and glam he was reining in pre-Idol, and during Idol. He was also making the statement that he is not just another Idol contestant. Having made that statement, he now feels free to also embrace the more "conventional" image which is also very much who he is. I am only sorry that some of the reaction is "That's the old Adam I fell in love with on Idol." Wish it had been "Damn, this guy can do anything, and do it well. He is complex, multi-faceted, and uber talented." But, I think we got some of that, too. It seems to have been a major success, as it should have been. And it goes without saying that he was gorgeous vocally and visually.

How strange: Now about the leather pouch - is there something inside it? One of the posters on IDF said "condom on a rope".

On another note, I was listening to pop radio on my drive home from the airport. Heard about 3 songs in a row with vocals that stayed basically within five notes. Very narrow range. Very simple melodic line. Something just about anyone in the world could sing. It reminded me again that Adam's songs are vocally much more complex than most of what is out there in the pop scene. It may make it a little less "hooky" and a little less "accessible" but I never want him to dumb down his voice to that narrow lane I hear from so many other singers. So glad he is planning to feature the voice prominently on Adam #2.
Now, gotta go and download the remix!

I hate it when this site gets sappy.
We all are anonymous and we all have our individual lives and trials and glories and sad events.
In my anonymity, I want to say just two things.
Flippantly, I am truly in the minority. I don't care about Adam's ear gauges. If his little holes expand, I'll love them. I'm actually fascinated by the way we are beginning to refashion our physical selves - making each and every one of us unique. So there.
I'm spending alot of time in the NICU these days. My precious granddaughter - born on the anniversary of Fantasy Springs - is very sick. If you pray - please pray. If you look to the stars - seek the one needing light. She is very strong but in need of more than she can provide.
I feel private and scared to ask for something from friends I've never met. But tonight may be the night. Her name is Penelope. And she has just begun to live. And I've never prayed before. And you are my friends, and I ask for your love for her. Strange that I'm posting. But I have nowhere to go.
I come here after coming home. An empty house, because my darling man has taken over where I left off - we are sharing the need to care. I am missing the family I just left - and I'm wiping my nose and reading the thread. You, who don't know me, are helping me through this night.

I heard the little bobble on "lost"-- it reminded me of the bobble at the end of Mad World that he quickly corrected. if anything, it was a teeny bit sharp. And I don't hear the flat note you're talking about. The best way to describe that performance.. as you point out... in total it was beautiful and strong. In the beginning I had to adjust to the guitar line ... that's what made it jarring to me at first. But the test of that performance is how you feel about it after the initial hearing. Like many Adam peerformances, I hear more shadings, nuances, and love it more and more, with each listen.

Oh, momtomany, I'm so very sorry. I can feel your tears through your words, and will look at the stars right now and send my wishes for Penelope's recovery.
