Or maybe my instincts are completely off and Melissa Maerz' review is completely fair and she is not homophobic. It is possible. I wonder if someone kicked her dog, someone else keyed her car, and that a misguided Merle Norman make-up artist gave her a bad makeover. >:( Metaphorically speaking I have absolutely no doubt that someone kicked her dog. This woman's dog has been kicked alright.

We are so damned lucky in Canada that the "gay marriage issue" is not an issue. If I lived in DC, I think I'd buy one of these T-shirts and go stand in front of the White House. He really is a cool president. We are so damned lucky in Canada that the "gay marriage issue" is not an issue. Was he really showed up like that??? or it's a photoshop?? :-[

Uh, yeah, forget what I said abt not taking EW review too seriously. That was downright ugly. Serves me right for reacting to letter grade without reading the review!

I lived in Boca during the 2000 election--in a very liberal district that somehow had a surge for Pat Buchanan. I still have the butterfly ballot instructions. Awful time. Then when I moved to Nashville ten years ago, I was so innocent about the South. I worked on the campaign to Vote No against an amendment added to the state constitution to ban gay marriage. We worked so hard, and I naively thought we had a shot. We lost 19% to 81%. I kinda like to just keep inside my little liberal bubble and not get too rattled. But when I can actively promote causes like gay marriage and--especially--separation of church and state, I'm there. Now, to bring it back to Adam--not too upset abt EW review. I never take their music reviews too seriously. My husband told me the other day he renewed our subscription and how expensive it was. At first I thought, Noooo! I was gonna let that expire! I really see a change in attitude toward Adam since Michael Slezak left. Much snarkier. Ive been subscribing to Rolling Stone for 30 years. Have always loved Rob Sheffield. I even read his book Life Is a Mixtape. I don't always agree, but he is one person with a true knowledge of rock history and doesn't have that too-cool-for-school attitude that prevents him from championing pure sophisticated pop. (I had to work to shake that indie snobbery in myself even!) I'm out at mtgs so forgive typos plz as I've grabbed the iPad of my friend. Wanted to say hey to fellow Nashvillian! (not currently but for many yrs) and fellow Sheffield fan for exact same reasons as yours. Welcome - please stay and play! *** Re EW - I'm shocked and I think most know it takes a lot to shock me. I'm staying away from her comments on music bc she has every right to her opinion even when misinformed like on Chokehold but her language is not ok. So many 'weird' kids (like me once) read mags like EW faithfully - what does it say if they see same derisive, contemptuous language there as they hear at school? I've actually asked friends who aren't Adam fans to read and tweet or comment to EW. I can't believe an editor cleared that. ETA: oops in case it wasn't clear - junkets, that EW comment was general - I am just having so much trouble wrangling my outrage AND the unfamilar iPad, I consolidated posts!
