Dallas is pretty weird. Adam was never heavily supported by local radio until our local HAC station added NCOE early. I think that was primarily because the PD at that station was really impressed by Adam when he visited the station. He tweeted about how he was really impressed with Adam after meeting him. Meanwhile, the local CHR stations continue to shun him even though he went to visit them too. But as far as the review, I got the distinct impression that the reviewer doesn't care for dance music. If you don't like a specific genre of music, you shouldn't be reviewing it cause you're not going to give it a fair review. Exactly !!!

Wow, and what is it with Dallas ... it was the DallasVoice that pulled their review from their publication.

" Comedy is paramount to social change" ... Skylar Thank you Skylar for this line ... I completely agree. And Chelsea's show is a comedy show ... the first 15 minutes of her 1/2 show is a panel with comedians discussing/joking about the (mostly pop culture) news ... and as you say, as un-PC and irreverently as possible. You'd like the book On Bullshit by Princeton philosopher Harry Frankfurt. He talks about comedy as one of the rare methods that can effectively break down barriers and help people see bullshit for what it is. Love this book so much. I'm finally catching up ... thank you, Skylar, I love getting recommendations like this. And this looks right up my alley.

Kinda strange review. Will not hurt Adam at all. Backward from FYE? What planet are they living on ? The "Adam should sing RAWK music" planet. : We are probably going to see several of these types of reviews in the next couple of weeks. This reviewer liked the ballads -- so not looking for rock Adam. It is the mirror image of the EW reviewer who did not like the ballads. And he gives good reviews to other dance-pop albums. He also picked FYE as a Top 10 Album from 2009 -- "10. Adam Lambert , For Your Entertainment (19/RCA): Love him or loathe him - and it seems as though there's an equal amount on both camps - the button-pushing American Idol runner-up made a super-fun glam pop-rock-dance CD bursting with pipes and personality. Now he needs to stop talking and keep singing." Link: www.dallasnews.com/entertainment/columnists/mario-tarradell/20091223-Year-in-Review-Music-7109.ece So he was a fan of FYE.

Wow, and what is it with Dallas ... it was the DallasVoice that pulled their review from their publication. They pulled it? Apparently ... they were chatting about it on Twitter this morning. The link no longer works and I checked the regular website and couldn't find it. I don't think they liked the comments. I mentioned this this morning.

I mentioned this this morning. I don't know if that site was the one but one LGBT site, a poster who identified as lesbian didn't like identified straight people swarming their site and taking over the comments section. Some of the posts were over the top, basically telling the gay community how to think, feel, etc. The regular readers did not appreciate their site being swarmed like that by people who obviously didn't regularly read the site. I could see her point. I wish straight Adam fans would stay out of those comment sections. It would be nice to see what their regular readers have to say. When they see their site has been, basically invaded, they tend to back away from commenting themselves until they get pissed off.

Yes, that is the site ... and that was my thought on why they pulled it. Can't think of any other reason for them to do it.

But as far as the review, I got the distinct impression that the reviewer doesn't care for dance music. If you don't like a specific genre of music, you shouldn't be reviewing it cause you're not going to give it a fair review. I agree the Dallas review isn't important and I have no problem with mixed reviews but it is interesting to realize how many elements may play a role in a review. (I love a good backstory ). Looking at twitter, the reviewer Mario Tarradell was first prompted to say something about Trespassing by Rand Duren who lists himself as Entertainment Editor/Producer for Dallas News, while Tarradell lists himself as music critic. hmm. (From a quick look at his web site, Duren was hired end of last year to do TV/Music for DMN and before that was a blogger who followed Idol and was an Adam fan.) (The Tarradell comment below makes me chuckle -- 'Trespassing' is too long. What does that even mean? Too long for what - it's not like you have to sit through the movie. What if he loved every song - would it still be too long? Is this like 'too many notes'? And is 'busy' a musical term? ) ****************** Mario Tarradell @mariotarradell So you are right @randduren this #AdamLambert CD is very dancey. High energy dance. Just started it, but it's banging already. (follow up a bit later also to Duren) #AdamLambert CD: Too long, busy, overproduced. Not enuff focus on his great voice. Ballads should be mixed in better as breaks from beats.
