It officially has not gone to adds. That is 10/8. Hopefully there will be a lot of activity with smash it or crahit, pump it or lose it, etc. especially the big stations. We have already lost at several stations and they are not playing it because of the lack of voting. It is necessary we establish the stations in our area and work them. Early adders, a doing their thing, we need to be cognizant of wht that is and play their games. Tht is how Adam wins. He is not Kesha, Bruno or Adele, Rhianna, etc. We need to play their games and not bemoan it all. I'm back from 2+ weeks vacation & ready to start "playing the radio game". I'm not very optimistic that this alone will mean much (been there, done that) but it certainly can't hurt. Did my texting & MB forms already this am - even with JET LAG! ;D

Yay! JazzRocks is back! How was your trip? Oh wait, this is the Dark Side, so I'll just say I hope you didn't have any delays, bad food, snooty or indifferent service, overcrowded transportation, or lousy weather Welcome back. I hope you will be able to post in what seemed to be your fave thread before everything went sad trombone: the Numbers thread. Maybe we'll get a good response with this one! Oh wait, I did it again. Dark Side. It will probably flop, RCA will do anemic promotion and PDs and DJs will treat it with at best indifference or at worst derision. ;D

Is he going to do any US promo this time? (apart from PLL) Shouldn't we be hearing something?

I feel out of the loop. Trip was fantastic! But since this is the Dark Side I'll just say the flights sucked. ;D

I'm trying to make sense of what has happened with this album.
Early in 2011 Adam said he was going to put songs like WWFM and IIHY on his new album I thought 'Oh no!' because they were not my favorites from FYE. I think he changed his mind and the only song that could be said to be like his first two hits was BTIKM. I understand why this was picked as a single with it's Dark/light theme but I was unimpressed the first time I heard it. I did like it sung live but then I like pretty much everything Adam does live. The song just wasn't strong enough to make an impression as a first single from a much anticipated album.
Then it was time for a second single. Like most fans I wanted a song Adam had writing credits for. We got the one that the radio stations chose as a 'safe choice'. I liked this song and thought it was stronger than BTIKM but there is a disconnect. In the first few bars Adam sounds just like Bruno and the song has 'Bruno' stamped all over it. I think it's similiar the 'Talking to the Moon' and 'It will rain' which is probably why Bruno didn't include it in his album. If you are going to sing a song written by another singer then I think it's important to sound completely different. When the public heard this song for the first time they probably thought ' It's Bruno Mars, no, why is Adam singing Bruno's song?' That was the problem.
Now we have the song that should have been the first single released without any promo. We will never know if Trespassing would have taken off in the USA with the buzz a first single gets. I'm interested to see how it charts in NZ and Australia where Adam has had success in the past and radio DJ's seem to be freer to play a variety of songs. I think this will give the best indication of how Trespassing will perform elsewhere.

People have to be able to hear Trespassing in order to love it,in order to make it chart.. That is the catch 22 .. Radio is not a friend... If people don't hear it, they don't get on youtube to play it.. and so on..then they don't buy it from Itunes because they haven't heard it.. How the hell do we break this circle??
OK I'm going to answer myself.. Adam has to get on television .. should we start asking Ellen to have him as a guest,SNL,Letterman.. we have to use a different means than radio..

He had Ellen, Leno for btikm and ncoe, and they didn't make much of a difference. He needs to be bigger to get SNL or an awards show. He'll probably get an idol slot, but 2013 will be too late for tsp. If tsp doesn't chart, collaboration with someone like Perry or Bruno is probably his best bet if he wants to continue in pop. If a collaboration or tsp don't happen, then it's time to figure out what went wrong and forget pop for the time being, as a third album is unlikely to do better than tsp. A regular appearance on a tv show, a film, even a successful play could put him back on the map. I'm torn about a tour like gnt, as he can't afford to disappear for a long period of time. A short tour, or a short gig opening for a major star would be sufficient. International concerts with huge payoffs, like the ones he's been doing, while pursuing other avenues, would also be good.

What a tough.tough and tough business.. With all Adam's talent you would think it might be easier. I still believe in my heart that being gay, in a rather homophobic industry, hasn't helped. Although the Channel Orange album is doing great and Frank Ocean came out.. Hmmm

Who knows what went wrong. An unfortunate combination of things I'm sure: Album delay, bad & confused release timing by RCA, bad single choices by RCA, Radio's stubbornness (for whatever reasons), no collab (for whatever reasons), lack of REAL promo by RCA (push money to stations, TV spots other than the usual Ellen, Leno stuff) & on & on. There are many artists that appear on Ellen & Leno and have little to no pop success so I don't think that is the answer. What is NOT the problem is 1) the quality of the album & 2) Adam's work ethic.
I guess there really is no point rehashing all this RCA stuff. It's water under the bridge. If the pros don't know the answer I sure don't.
I DO know that fans are requesting more for Tsp than ever before & stations still are not playing it. What that tells me is that requests are meaningless without label push.
Hastens to add - I'm still requesting. NEVER GIVE UP!!!
And if Q3 is right, and it's just a matter of patience, I'm going to turn over a new leaf and be as patient as I can be!!! Starting now.

Although the Channel Orange album is doing great and Frank Ocean came out.. Hmmm Homophobia isn't the problem, at least not in my opinion. Being off AI is. The stigma from these reality shows is only getting worse. Only Carrie and Kelly have been totally accepted by radio and the mainstream. And, probably Jennifer Hudson, because winning an Oscar will do that for you. I do think it is possible that by as early as March last year, RCA knew that radio wasn't going to happen this era. I think NCOE was a last ditch effort to court radio by bringing Bruno in. And it didn't help. Maybe they decided not to pour a whole lot of money into something that wasn't ready to happen at this point in Adam's career. Unpopular opinion, I know, but I would scrap any idea of a "Tresspassing" tour. That just puts Adam further under the radar for too long. Instead, do some one-offs and then actively get Adam engaged in other opportunities that give him exposure. Because before they even think about an third album they need a new strategy. Maybe they should focus efforts on getting Adam a "feature" spot in a collaboration (worked wonders for Sia). How about Guetta? Is he insanely expensive? Radio it seems has played everything Guetta has released.
