I'm glad this thread exists. Although it's pretty hard to find. I guess I have to bookmark it or go to page 1 for the link every time I want to post? Not that I expect to be dark very often, but sometimes I want to say something that's not all flaily & squeey without bringing the mood down. Here it's already down. LOL Right now I have nothing to add except maybe there should be a link to the Numbers thread here. It fits right now. ;D
And yeah - not negative or dark really. Just worry.

Mika..love the Yeats. I had forgotten just how appropriate that is to Adam. Adam shows his light side to the public but it is the dark that he is showing us that makes us want to protect him and help him. Questioning the status quo and analyzing issues is often equated with 'the dark side' and that is why darkness can live on...nobody wants to bring it into the open .... easier to just relegate and regulate it to 'the secret thread' and assume it will just go away. I would personally prefer that there be a separate thread for the "deep" rather than the 'dark' side and that this side be as visible as the 'light' side. Hiding and separating this side is so like exactly what Adam's NCOE vid is all about exposing!! Amazing seeing this used on a forum dedicated to a man so against this!! Astonishing ... jmho ETA Just read thru the next few pages after Mika's quote to see that some of you/us are not letting banishment and name-calling stop this thread from moving on. Now if we could just get it in the index...seriously, what is this. I would seriously hate to stop posting here but if this happens to often and this thread ends up languishing I will have to find somewhere else to discuss these things...sadz. Does anyone know of another forum that wades in the deep a little more than this one is doing? I too have been jobless and fighting ageism with a vengeance. It is not easy living poor[ly] and exercising my brain in conjunction with my heart is pure pleasure...anything less is opiate for sure, but out of your control then... For now, I will add this bookmark to the hundreds there already I am thankful you are all here

Ventured into the numbers thread, where I rarely ever go. I'm thinking maybe that is why the dark room was created. People are frustrated, with good reason, about radio play. Maybe the mods needed to keep a light place for balance. Just listened to my son's new track for my own balance. The vocal sampled is "every step is moving me up." I guess I'm trespassing into the dark side with a little bit of light that works for me, lol. Give it a listen if you are so inclined. treeswingers.com/2012/05/30/classixxs-fingerpaint-lunar/

I wish there could be an Adam Lambert Philosophical Society thread, as mszue alludes too. Where we could talk about things that weren't necessarily "dark" (though that too), but deep. It's like Tuesday, when I posted about the video. I wasn't even criticizing it ... just thought there was room for improvement. It would have been fun to talk about that with others who like analytical stuff.
momtomany said something late last night that interested me. That Adam is an adult artist. I think that is so true ... the market seems to be trying to force artists into a mold of having to appeal to 13-year-olds or be deemed a failure. But Adam seems far too mature, sexual, and sophisticated for that. [and gay.]
Sometimes I feel like we really are on a crazy train. Adults -- 18 to 80+ -- who love music need to find out about Adam. I hope DMG has some things up its sleeve -- getting Adam's music on TV shows and ads and shows that appeal to music-loving adults.
If that happens, I'm not really worried about Adam's future. Trespassing has already sold as well (if I have figured this out correctly) as the newest album by Train. And they tour all over the country, they're terrific. And Adam has the international audience too.
Maybe we're defining success all wrong. ???

[slogs down secret staircase carrying oil lantern and carpetbag]
[grimaces at damp, slimy floor]
[pulls out a camp chair and footstool]
[plops into chair, places carpetbag safely on dry stool]
[winces as water drips on head]
[glares at ceiling, pulls a rainhat out of carpetbag, defiantly places on head]
[wraps tarp around self]

Man, Q3 did a good job. Even I can't find this place without knowing where it is.
And yes, the periodic dark sides exist because the regular threads sometimes get derailed when prolonged angsting occurs. The mods get complaints. People whine on Twitter. And then a large amount of the membership stays away. The Numbers thread is a release valve for most of the angst (after all, the angst is generally about numbers). But even last weekend when we met at Freshtival, Q3 was talking about having separate threads on a quasi-regular basis.
[grins] That does NOT mean separate threads all the time!! And no, it doesn't mean censorship (no one's posts are getting deleted).
[shrugs] It just means that those who wail about ATOP not being all sweetness and light can, every once in a while, get a rose-colored glasses day while the rest of us can mutter what we want, as we like it, without pretense.

Yes, I do feel compelled to post here, and there are also some very interesting and insightful posts heres.
However, what follows really pisses me off! Major Marketing Blunder, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL:
71,080 likes, 1,899 dislikes Artist: Adam Lambert Buy "Better Than I Know Myself" on iTunes
This from the official VEVO MV, and the official NCOE OFFICIAL VEVO MV has: as seen on Just Jared. No link to iTunes to buy this song.
WTF???????

And now for my dark side personal rant: IMO, Adam is not getting a fair shake. He just isn't. #1 Album, critical acclaim for album and vids, TONS of targeted fan support, works his ass off, spectacular interviewee, etc etc etc. And yet all those positives just don't make more than a minor, disproportionally small, dent in the Numbers. I, for one, was expecting a shit-load more adds. From a lot more stations. Is 16 horrible? No. But is sure isn't good either. Not for the amount of promo and (face it) radio bribes paid. Not for the quantity of DJ and critical kudos. Is it the GEY ??!!??!! ??? ??? ??? ??? I dunno. But let me tell you what *I* heard on the radio this morning. Was listening to DC101 -> the "Elliot in the Morning" show. They played the YouTube of a 3-year old singing “Ain't No Homos Gonna Go to Heaven” with the entire church whooping and praising the boy as he sang. Pulled this excerpt off some radio's site (grabbed the first google hit, but forget to mark which one): [/i] [/ul] Adam CANNOT win a huge number of people over. People who listen to radio stations who rely on advertising. And, in my secret heart-of-hearts, I can't but believe that THAT kind of closed-minded hatred doesn't affect PDs who determine what gets played on their stations. Hits. Big hits. They get played on LOTS of stations. You.cannot.get.a.big.hit.without.being.played.on.lots.of.stations...... And I just don't know if that's going to happen. Can Adam survive if he doesn't have a big hit? Sure. His fanbase is solid. BUT.IT.ISN'T.FAIR............

HSM...I appreciate what you say here but in fact, hiding the link and making it that difficult to find is EXACTLY systemic censorship and marginalization .....similar in many ways to passive aggression...effective but with a built in denial factor. There is always a socially 'agreeable' justification but does it really pass the REALNESS test. I thought one of our criteria here was "what would Adam do?"....doubt this, frankly.

I dunno, Hoppers. It was made pretty clear that the "main" news thread is to be light, only. And this is the "dark side," with a judgmental opening post about "do you really want to be here?" Even your post, funny as it is, essentially categorizes this thread as the dark, scary underground where we hang out with the Phantom of the Opera.
Adam's world is a world of art, success, and beauty. I love that world. It is also a world of neediness, ugliness, and despair.
The real secret in "Phantom" was that in the end, the Phantom's desperation led to his compassion and sacrifice. How could that have happened, that transformation, without all the characters being forced to look deeper, to look "underneath"?
Superficial is awesome but for some Atoppers Adam is about searching and wondering, too. Would like to think we could all party together.
My 2 cents.
ETA: I appreciate your rant. Adam is getting screwed by cowards. The number of people who hate and despise gays is getting smaller every day and is all but non-existent among younger people. Hell, Baylor University (a Texas Baptist college) recently had a survey in which the majority of students gave a thumbs-up to gay marriage. These haters need to be shipped off to the same museum where we keep the hoods and sheets of the Klan.
ETA again: And yes, I realize Atop is not a democracy and there is no appeal.
