Added to the fact that Adam is way more articulate, is visual candy and would do honest critiques of the contestants, there is the fact that bringing Adam back would have given them something truly unique - no other show has a successful former contestant on the judges panel. I'm still holding out a sliver of hope, mostly because I can't believe Idol would be that dumb. Falling for mj's Enrique rumor taught me a lesson. Carey is the only confirmed panel member. Everything else is rumor, and the rumor will be clarified soon enough; it's almost the middle of September. Also, the obligatory they'd be blithering fools if they keep Randy. Enrique or Adam are unknown quantities. They might be excellent from the start or improve over time. Randy has been there for years, and remains one of the most incoherent humans to ever appear on a panel, anywhere. He added NOTHING in the past--no wisdom, no humor, no charisma, no chemistry with other panel members, and he's had a few panels to respond to.

So here I am on the dark side. I didn't even know this thread was still active.
On the main thread, we were talking about a possible Grammy nomination for Adam this year. Tigerlilly said, and I think evamaria (?) also said that radio play would be a big factor for any pop song getting nominated. So I went and looked at the numbers thread, which usually scares me, to see how Trespassing CD is doing. I was shocked! It has only sold 143,000+ copies, how very dismal.
WTF???????? I seriously can't understand this! It is a great album, better than FYE IMO. Why isn't it selling? It got really good and some great reviews from music critics. Remember Rolling Stone review: "the GREAT Pop album everyone hoped Adam Lambert would make." I know a lot of Glamberts bought multiple copies, myself included. I love all of the songs that have been released, I think they are all as good if not better than what is being played on radio these days. It really does seem like there is a conspiracy to NOT play Adam's music on the radio.
I repeat,
WTF???????

Trespassing is an excellent album. It got a great (better than great) review from Rolling Stone. But a lot of things went wrong with the roll-out. The wrong lead-off single was released at the wrong time. The radio tour was unorganized, and obviously radio did not respond to the song. The album was pushed back so a lot of the initial momentum was lost. The timing of the Queen stuff was terrible.
But basically, the problem was no hit single. The album needed (needs) a hit single. Without one it just slowly fades away.
Now I'm depressed :(. Sorry

My reasoning is he waited too long between albums, so had to make a comeback. Comebacks are rough by definition. He didn't have the post idol visibility he had for fye, and he didn't have a successful lead single, which hurt album sales. Unfortunately most people don't read Rolling Stone or search Metacritic.

I agree that album sales are just shockingly low. I have heard people opine about the importance of radio play for Pop Album sales, I now I think it is absolutely true. Honestly, I am surprised he is getting another single with the revenue this era has generated, but feel lucky he did. One more chance to maybe salvage this era a little. Tense times again with this single trying to make some kind of noise. I hope that RCA is just not throwing it out there with out support like I think sometimes happens with an album in this type of sales. This is the reason I wanted Idol's huge platform for him. Since this is the Dark Side I will reiterate that I hate the suits at corporate radio. I hate to sound like a nut case, but remember Clear Channel is the home of Rush Limbaugh.

I hate them, too, but despite social and radio homophobia people bought fye, even without a lead single, and the radio jumped on wwfm. Literally the only difference between fye and trespassing eras is the lack of idol visibility.

I don't know............ Today, I posted the Official MV of NCOE, it has over 8 mil views. But, the top comments were an ongoing war between Glamberts and homophobes. Really? This is a music video, and the haters are out in force. I recommend that all Glamberts revisit this video, and post a positive comment there, to drown out all the nut jobs. Also, to get all this crap off the front page of the video.

People coming fresh of Idol often have decent sales, then typically have a big drop for album 2. Cook sold a ton of album one, and his sales for his second were about like Adam's. Still if radio had played him or Cook for that matter, things would have been much better. I also agree that visibility is key.

I had a premonition when Cook tanked that it MIGHT happen to Adam. I brushed it aside because the album was so good and got great reviews (& debuted at #1,) but inside I was a bit skeered. Remember though that Adam does have a following in many countries other than the US. Not at superstar status but certainly far better than Cook. Sony/RCA reaps the benefits of his international presence.

I am beginning to think of the Dark Side as my home away from home. I was surprised that Cook crashed and burned this era, though I really did not enjoy TLM. That Adam has come to a similar fate surprised me because Trespassing is such a strong album and he is so much more visible then Cook. Look at the number of video views and twitter followers, there is no comparison. I have been doing a small survey of people I know by asking them to name Idols and Adam is usually on the list, but few other are. The fact that he has enough reviews to get a Metacritic score whereas Cook didn't indicates that the industry see him as somewhat relevant in music. Another indication is that his name is often included in on line polls i.e. BB sexiest man in music. Also he can still nab good spots like PLL. Cook is far less visible. I am back to thinking radio reluctance was more of a problem for him than visibility.
