I like y'all's vision for the place. I appreciate that many of you are trying to take the situation and turn it on its head. Bunch of subversive muthafuckas. We can curse down here, right? (Haha, I've probably only used that word twice in my real life, but it rolled off the tongue just now--the result of watching too many Adam concert videos!) Actually, I don't know that I'll be posting much here because at the moment my heart's just not in it, but I liked peeking in from time to time to read the thoughtful posts and it did feel cozy here and a bit safe. I hope that spirit can return. I hope it works out.

So some people realize I have a thing for mer people. It's because I want to live under the sea where everything's wetter, where everything's better. And I think I could breathe better if I had gills. (My Mom blamed a visit to Weeki Wachee when I was 5....) Thank you Jamie and Craazy and Prism. Junie -- glad you're hanging in. And Kay I hope you don't leave. You shared frustrations and hopes and have nothing to be sorry for. I agree w/other posts that it's natural that there's newness and all that comes with that. Dialogue, exchanging views. I find that to be a good thing. I'm not leaving - I'll stay and talk. (Who will look after the Moon Garden? And I'm thinking of adding a library.) I really am under the weather and have to pack up a storage unit so please forgive my inarticulate - ness. (Oh and Jamie!! - you always pick the parts of songs I like best. The way Adam sings ' my heart's beating faster, I know what I'm after' may actually be my favorite part of the album. I know them's fightin' words , but something about his tone there really moves me. I kind of want to make a fan vid but I dont' know what programs people use to clip shows/movies plus add music and I spent quite a bit of time combing B&N computer/web section for a book to no avail.) ETA: Lest people think I'm more rational than I am. I was watching 'Revenge' (this ridiculous, delicious tv drama I'm hooked on) and actualfax wondered for the tiniest moment what Emily would do about radio and Adam. Decided, if I had Nolan's help (another character - young, eccentric computer genius), I'd totally take down the PD's at key stations. (Really, it's not much of a surprise I'll soon be homeless and unemployed is it? )

Oh fuck. I realize I did a shitty thing. I apologize to Kay, I was not singling you out but it may have appeared so. And I apologize to all of you.. I should have backed out of the thread quietly.

I have been so frustrated because I have been locked out of ATOP since last night. I wanted desperately to respond to everyone as things evolved last night, but could not sign in!!!! This is even my third time trying to post this today. Keeps disapearing!!!!! I was beginning to think I was being punished for joining the dark side . LONG LIVE THIS THREAD! It can work because I think we are looking for the same thing. It is not necessarily dark, but certainly can be. I want a thread for reflection. Nothing is off topic, but always adhering to ATOP rules (although we may have to amend "always glitterier and golden" rule with the Q3) :D. This is the journey I have found myself on because of Adam and ATOP. I want to continue to share all of it with you. Not just hair, clothes, radio charting, etc. I guess I want it all -- doesn't feel so dark to me -- feels limitless. Q3 has always told us that this site belongs to all of us and I believe that she means it --she is a class act. I have some ideas floating around, but I am exhausted from the allnight tourbus ride from hell. I'll pop in as soon as I feel a little more awake.

Mika, Lynne, Jamie, thanks for the welcome! Mika, I saw your post about Sacha Baron Cohen last night. I'm kind of in love with him. He elicits so many responses in me at the same time--I am all at once horified, embarassed, nodding head in agreement, cheering, and laughing hysterically. He pushes all the buttons! That's what I want this thread to achieve. If you get the chance, listen to Terry Gross' recent interview with him--he's one bright dude. Lynne, I wish you could be everyone's 8th grade teacher! I was really proud of our group that went to DC. They had their moments, but for the most part, they were great. We had several compliments on their behavior. We saw so many rude kids touring there and our group stood out in a good way. I really believe this is due to the teachers' respect for the students as individuals and their constantly communicated expectations of high standards. Jamie, I loved the music thread too and I want that to be a topic on this thread! Here is something I have been listening to as I have been trying to post. Everyone should listen to this recent broadcast of Sound Opinions--Disco Doesn't Suck. There are so many references that make me think of Adam and us--ousiders, subversive cluture, mixing musical genres, the evolution of modern dance music, artistry vs. radio, and a great bit on Nile Rodgers and Chic. audio.soundopinions.org/streams/2012/05/so_20120525.m3u

[teleports to the Dark Thread wearing lolly-studded hat]
[ignores the pillows, pulls up a chair]
Guys. I'm going to say some things that not all of you want to hear. But I'm going to say this anyway.
This thread. This hidden, candle-lit, dark-but-not-evil thread is STILL part of ATOP. The same rules of courtesy apply here as well as any other part of this board. Particularly toward the mods, and most especially towards the Administrator of this board who allows this place to exist.
If you have a problem with the way the board does business, you PM a mod or Q3 herself. It WILL NOT be a discussion topic on any part of ATOP, up to and including here. As was discussed earlier, this board is not a democracy. Q3 and the mod team bend over backwards to be as fair as humanly possible, but we can't please everyone. If you dislike things so much, there may be other boards on the Internet more to your liking.
I am going to remove the most critical of the posts. They will not fester here. And then I'm going to calm down a mod who has been dealing with a great deal of personal tragedy lately and tell her that I have done so.
This darkened thread is for deep thoughts. Sometimes frustrated thoughts. But not mean lashouts.
[stands up pointedly]
Threads on ATOP can be deleted. No bookmark or gateway will bring it back. And IMO it would be tragedy to lose the beautiful moongarden that was planted here.
[lights a new incense stick]
[teleports out]

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the thread. Am I on the right track, or am I too giddy for this group? The majority of the people that have posted so far are favorites of mine, many of whom I have communicated through pm because I feel some sort of shared view. Every time someone would post, I found myself saying YAY, love him/her. I "get them" and I don't see you guys as dark. You seem a lot like me. My dark and light play together. I'm a late joiner to the thread, but I'll give my opionion. Maybe we should just start another salon style/inspired by Adam thread. Pick a name. Run it by Q3.
Dunno, I haven't been as engaged in the threads lately, so I wasn't mad/frustrated. The kinds if things I just posted are examples of some of the things I like to discuss. I feel weird posting them on the daily thread because they veer off topic. No one visits the other salon threads. So my only hope in engaging in conversation results in lots of scrolling and hopes that one of you will notice me.
I don't want to leave ATOP. I don't have any negative feelings. I love so much about it, but I like the way this could evolve. Even though some of these things will be off topic, we have other disparate threads (personal news, cooking, diet, music, mythology). I want a place where the people I have become close with can continue the conversation. Yes it's still about Adam for me. I have been changed for the better, but I'm not done yet.
Any ideas? Or am I way off?

My first appearance here - THANK YOU, Junie, for the link. I've been looking for this thread but could not find it...
I want to share my experience with "negativity" from my other, now defunct, site - nymichael.com... as some of you might know - that site was created as a continuation of the AI thread "Adam from the Industry Perspective" - and as such was more of an adult, serious thread, talking about the Music industry trends, contracts, fee's distributions, record sales, etc... was deep end by default... so, we all happily migrated to nymicahel, no modding there, free as a bird - say anything you want. Most of us were total newbies and a couple were "old timers" idol fans, who've been through trials and tribulations of the "making it after AI"...
Those of us who were "new" could not stand to hear anything that came across as negativity - which, now, looking back from the last three years of "experience" - was just being realistic about the prospects of "taking over the world" in one year...
As group dynamic had it - the experienced voices were driven out off the site, because the rest of us were there to have fun, flail and had no tolerance for anything real = negative in our ignorant perception....
So, I understand the desire to see positivity only. Adam is an escape for many of us (including me). He helped many to overcome various RL problems, gave the feeling of euphoria, gave us new friends...this sunny rainbow land is not to have even one shadow...
...reality is different. if we want to FACE it - we DO have to express our thoughts, doubts, angst...we are too invested to try and ignore the facts.
..and that is why I am really hoping that this place would serve as an outlet for being able to talk about reality as each one of us perceives it.
In general - I am 100% sure that Adam's future is set in the most bright and successful way. But the current radio situation is unsettling to me...I keep getting irrational and "hating" on RCA for picking the singles that IMO are misrepresenting the album... on the other hand I understand that it is not about the song really, but about some "politics" .... I hate feeling helpless, but I do...I can request, vote and buy loads of album copies - but none of this makes any difference in the big boy's radio game... - the source of my "dark" and angsty side.

[drags self out of gutter] [sobs in corner for a while] [reads article posted by jazzrocks/q3] Jazzrocks, for some reason that link got broken, so here it is again: www.radioiloveit.com/radio-music-research-music-scheduling-software/music-scheduling-song-rotation-rocket-science/What do you guys think about this? Last week I visited a new used book store in my neighborhood and made friends with the clerk. He used to work at Borders and remembered me. He talked about how Borders was taken over by "scientists" and bean counters who thought they knew best about the books and what people wanted. In other words, the store was run by people who didn't read and redesigned to try to appeal to people who don't read. We all know how that worked out. When I read this article ... it seemed much the same. As if the business had been hijacked by people who don't like music, and tries to appeal to people who don't care about it either. Who listens to it and why? I'm not being confrontational, I'm just genuinely curious. When I was trying to win tickets to the Houston m&g I listened all the time, and instead of feeling energized, I just felt numb. Is that the whole idea? Do people respond better to advertising when they are numb? Is Adam's problem not that he is gay but that his music makes people feel alive and engaged?

Alison, for some reason I couldn't listen to that podcast, but this is a topic I am very interested in too. I was just in junior high when disco came about and I didn't like it (because I didn't like anything I was supposed to like, LOL -- and still don't).
It was only later that I learned about the close ties between disco and women and gay liberation and the integration of black and white culture. Basically I read that disco was a move away from worshipping consumer culture and a way that the audience rather than the performer took center stage. That was why it had to be destroyed, in the eyes of the "Disco Sucks" movement. And essentially it was.
So it is interesting to ponder the disrespect for pop/dance/Adam with that in mind. That if these forces represent gay/female/racial liberation, who stands to benefit from supressing them?
