Juniemoon, my vote also goes to 'Let's Rant'. It's broad enough. I think freedom and broadness are important here. The title is inviting and casual. I really like it. Also, I can really identify with this sentence of yours: "Adam's honesty and hard-won self-respect set me on a course away from grief and depression that were part of my life, and towards the idea that to be a whole person, you have to embrace your own true nature." I see you. I feel you. That's all I'm going to say. Oh, Lynne, the girlhood you and the mid-life you are best friends - Adam's infinity symbol and the talk what it stands for would best explain the interaction:))) Don't lose each other! Thumbs up for your youngest son 'pulling an Adam' ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Those radio numbers Tigerlily posted are really impressive and I agree with all of you who think radio is important. It's just that some of the possible answers as to why Adam doesn't get much radio play this era are scary and make me cringe: his singles aren't good enough / he is gay and that would chase away part of the listeners / his fans are too old/ erm, the stars didn't align, idk, whatever, etc, etc... These reasons are so horrible that I feel like they can't be and that they must be true at the same time. So I refuse to think. Catches 22 make me feel bad.

I just looked at those numbers and like all stats...they can say all sorts of things that are not as relevant as they may first seem....for example...those 93%+ numbers are simply the answer to a question of how many people have heard/listened [there is a difference and it would be interesting to hear how that was defined in the actual survey] at least once in the last week. Given the ubiquitous nature of radio play in malls...on telephone hold lines...stores...etc, I agree that it would be pretty hard to say honestly that most of us had not listened to the radio at least once. But surely that is not what most of us think of as "listening to the radio"!!
Almost half the people listening to radio now listen to it digitally...online...and much of that format is very genre-specific and often pre-selected. Spotify, pandora both 'count' in these numbers even though the term 'broadcast' radio would suggest to most of us that it is only traditional radio.
The number one format is Country and close behind it is talk radio....then you have college stations and NPR and classic radio...none of these can be related to Adam's music so not sure how these numbers relate to him....positive or negative...
If you take all the non-related options out of the equation, I agree that it is a tough slog and that radio is important...but we don't need to make it any more negative than it would seem to already be, imho. Personally, I hate all the stats stuff....I made sure my diss research was qualitative and took only enough quantitative stuff to get the degrees....hate it...allergic...:-) I NEVER go near the numbers thread...too confusing and upsetting...that should be the real NEGATIVE thread...not here...again, jmho.
Had my fill of numbers so going to go and see if I can empty the last of my boxes...yes I am still doing that....

If we're back to moaning about US radio I'll play. I'm having a really hard time understanding how Adam fans are expected to keep up the powder-your-face-with-sunshine approach to what's happening right now with radio. It just isn't pretty. One HAC add so far today - and an auto-add at that. I seriously doubt NCOE will get close to BTIKM's peak of #17. And that is sad. It's a better song and fits radio much better than BTIKM.
What good does it do to hide our heads in the sand and pretend everything is jolly good?
The only bright spot is that it's still early days on CHR, so maybe something will happen there. I do know that my local CHR station lowered their plays to TWO last week and they have always been very supportive of Adam in the past. I would be SHOCKED if they add tomorrow.
There ARE brighter spots internationally. NCOE is already approaching 500 spins in the UK! And appears to be doing well in Japan and some other countries. So there's that.
If this post doesn't belong and is upsetting I apologize. But this is what I understood the original intention of this thread to be. And I'm sorry but I'm pretty focused on this stuff right now. As far as ranting about it...if not here, WHERE?
I just sort of wish this thread were members only because anyone can take anything from here & post it on twitter. (I don't think mika has to worry - LOL)
OK - I feel compelled to soften my post before I hit reply. THERE ARE PLENTY OF MARVELOUS, INCREDIBLE THINGS HAPPENING FOR ADAM RIGHT NOW. Not least of which are the Queen gigs... an amazing opportunity that was probably far beyond his wildest dreams. I'm sure he's a happy man.
It's just this radio thing. Ugh
Should I hit "Post"? idk idk.......

What makes me saddest about how this era is unfolding of late is that the album is so excellent and he worked so hard on it. I am pinning my current hopes on Queen and the UK. Trying to keep it real and not get hopes too high. Will still continue to do my part with radio. I wonder how RCA is feeling about this era? I hope they continue to be supportive.

JazzRocks, I don't think any outsiders can FIND this thread...
That's the beauty of it. I saved it in my favourites.
In the news thread people say there's still time for NCOE to catch up as a single, like the whole summer...
Jean, I thought that TPS being #1 on Billboard and critical acclaim are enough to ensure album No 3. In addition, I firmly believe Trespassing will get maybe some awards, as an album... I don't listen to anything else much, but I doubt there will be a better album this year...

[materializes onto Dark Thread] Hey guys - I want to consolidate questions and commentary about radio, and specifically Trespassing's singles on radio, into its own thread. This discussion is both quite interesting and complicated and doesn't really belong on either Numbers or the Dark Thread. Dark Thread discussions on this topic shall be moved here shortly. The new "Trespassing Onto Radio" thread is here. adamtopia.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=strategy&thread=957&page=1 Please copy your relevant posts over there. I'll resort the rest when I have a chance. Thanks!! [dematerializes]

mszue: I don't know about Canada, but in the US the radio doesn't play in malls and in grocery stores, Walmart, etc. The music I hear at these types of places is a prerecorded song list of mostly older songs or an odd mix of HAC songs. I hear mostly instrumental music or some oldie AC tune when I'm holding on the telephone.
A large majority of Americans simply have the radio on at some point during the week while in the car while running errands or on their morning and afternoon commute to and from work or school. The rest may listen while at work, home or at the gym. I don't think it is anymore complicated than that.
Stating facts about radio is not trying to make Adam's situation "more negative than it already is". It is simply saying that radio is important and the stats from many sources say the same thing. Ignoring the statistics, if you look to iTunes, the charts there seem to back up the importance of radio play.

Does this mean radio cannot be discussed here?

I vote for a "Let's rant" thread. ;D (no literary quotations or philosophical musings required) This particular thread has become quite intimidating....I've been a member of this forum and its predecessors since the Planet Fierce days and appreciate cerebral musings....but DAYUM people!.... mika - say WUT?! Glad some peeps have found a sanctuary, but this one isn't for me. lol Duberberville, plz consider staying and ranting away ! It was the original purpose and I am all for a good, soul-cleansing rant. I won't be posting much anymore - I have my hands full and psyche stretched thin at the moment - and believe sometimes a sign is a sign is a sign. Maybe this will also help make things less complicated. Look fwd to reading the thread whatever direction it takes. . If I find any good, relevant articles or links I'll def. drop 'em off. Just wanted to say thanks for the fun little path you took us down. I, and many others, love your WUT? references Hope to see more of them when RL allows.

I hope we can still angst about radio here as it is the main source of our worries. I was hoping that this would be a place that we could talk about our feelings and interests in Adam's fandom covering any subject. I know I am brand new here, but I am a long time fan of Adam. He got me a Mama also. I want a place were I don't have to censor myself.
I also would not be surprised to see some awards but a successful album would help the awards.
