I realize of course that the desire to create a daily news only thread is driving all these events, but wanted to just throw in that wherever we end up moving in and I am very flexible in that, but I do have a preference when it comes to whether or not to spread out into many threads. In the end it will be up to the moderators to decide how they would like to guide us all, but for my two cents of whatever my thoughts are worth, I love when the big family is allowed to be together, because the one thing I truly want is for Atop to stay this wonderful and successful forum it has been for so long.I am not a prolific poster, but I have been an avid reader of the forum since the PF days. With the recent changes on Atop, I'm feeling lost - clicking on many different threads, looking for the forum/family I've so enjoyed for years, but only finding fragments. As crazyforadam said, Atop is like a big family - sharing ideas and opinions with joy and laughter, and sometimes with angst and anger, but always bound together by the love of all things Adam. To me, this strength is what has kept this forum so wonderful. I'm feeling very lonely and cut off right now! I'll keep wishing and hoping we all can come together again.

In most cases, I don't think the DJ's are a problem. Overwhelmingly, they seem to really like Adam---I think their hands are tied. When IIHY was out, WKSC basically played it 1-2/day for about two weeks. That was it. But, their afternoon DJ really liked Adam. I remember one time when she introduced the song she called Adam, "wonderfully talented," and said, "he should be huge." She actually said this. Going back further, this same station debuted FYE--shortly after the Seacrest debut---and the morning DJ's were so excited to play the song. The morning guy (who isn't there anymore) said he was going to play the song, but he wasn't going to tell listeners who it was first because of, "preconceived notions." His words. Then they played FYE and all the morning people in the studio just gushed about the song. It looked like it was going to be a great start for Adam on the big Chicago CHR station. Then, basically, the song wasn't spun again. In retrospect, I guess it was "word from above" that stopped it.

Ladyoz Bullsfan What I want to know is WHY? What do you think? In lack of a better explanation, I just have to agree with Melliemom's. It's the truth.

Okay...now I'm feeling responsible for pushing our "deep thinkers" out of this thread. It wasn't my intent. :-[ I feel that we need a release valve on this board where those of us who want to shout "WHAT THE FUCK RADIO?!!" can do so without criticism. I become so angry with certain "issues" I can't form a coherent sentence, much less compose a literary masterpiece. You've got to admit that such silly outbursts or illogical arguments look out of the place in this thread as it has evolved. That said, I'm thrilled those who need a comfortable place in which to wax poetically have their new home. (I also don't understand the compartmentalization of number angst....wouldn't that be a major topic for the "dark side"? What else is there to worry about? Everything else concerning Adam is quite wonderful! ....unless he returns to the Frankengump - what the hell else are we gonna talk about down here?! ..... bullsfan.....my thoughts exactly. I assumed Adam was networking with radio PD's to ensure a good roll out for this era's songs...haven't seen evidence of much success in that regard. Perhaps he should have made more TV appearances performing NCOE. I dunno. (Thinking I should send flowers over to the Moon Garden .....)

Those songs came out a couple of years ago. The civil rights LGBT movement here has become much more intense in the last three years.. Marriage equality, DOMA, equality in the military all big time movements since IIHY & WWFM. There is a real civil rights war going on here with politics being the main focus..Many will be elected to office or not according to their beliefs on Gay equality. Hard to believe in this day and age, But there you have it.. If the anti gay people can boycott JC P for Ellen, they certainly can try to boycott radio for playing gay singers and are trying to do so.. from the " turn off the radio comment." Discrimination affects him, of course, but his present difficulties are more a result of being away for so long. Adam's sole big hit was wwfm, winter/spring of 2010. GNT was lucrative and solidified his fan base without gaining him many casual fans. iihy was the only thing going for him during gnt with the general public and on radio, and iihy was not huge, which meant his presence was negligible. A long delay followed gnt/iihy, and during that time he was invisible to non fans. We follow everything he does. Normal people don't. Upshot is he's been gone for so long that he needs to make a comeback. For that he needs huge promo, which he doesn't have in the US, or a miracle, which he might yet get on chr. What's happening now was predictable when rca decided not to go with a third (fourth?) single in the US, and many fans predicted it. I think situation is self explanatory, not a result of song quality or nefarious scheming by evil pds.

I'm more confused than ever. ;D The last few pages here have been exactly what I thought this thread was created for, but I guess we have a newly-born radio discussion thread? Is there a link?
And durberville - wherever we're sent you better be there. lol
ETA: Found the new thread!

I'm just confused because the only things I feel "dark" about right now are radio and sales. Where should I post?
And, AleksandraKv, what happened with FYE remains a mystery to me. I don't know if the problem was the lyrics or something else...But it seems to me like someone (or a group of "someones") made the decision that radio was to reject the song, and stations (even ones that spun the song on day 1 and seemed ready to go) followed those directions. Strangely, FYE seemed to gain back a certain level of acceptance at some point. It was used quite successfully on the "E" network for promo.

Craazyforadam and ladyoz--I feel the same way about the scattering of our group. I don't know the best way to remedy it. I think Q3 reminded us of chat so that we will use it to talk about anything we want. But I have never liked it because there is no ongoing record of conversations, and we are a worldwide community which makes it logistically impossible to include everyone at the same time. I like the moon garden thread idea because the radio stuff is a little scrolly for me (maybe I am a bad fan after all :-/). But I do enjoy everyone who has posted here. Why can't we have a thread that can continue this conversation (but not buried on 5-22-12)? Somewhere visible or in members only if necessary. It doesn't have to necessarily be dark. I don't know--I'm just frustrated. Durberville--you are more than welcome in the moon garden. Why would you think that you are not deep. I value your input--I'm reading Tess of the Durberville's because of you .

jean1010, I think the problem with the radio tour was that Adam's awesomeness was not on display for their listeners in many cases. It was on display for the people in his already established fanbase who showed up for the concerts or won the limited tickets for the meet-and-greets. Adam visited 4 stations in Chicago---but the average radio listener never even knew it. NOTHING was done on -air, and the 2 big CHR stations mentioned nothing on their websites. WTMX FINALLY put a small interview on their site, but way after the fact, and you had to search to find it. My hope was always that while Adam wasn't getting valuable on-air time in many cases, he and his team were meeting the right people behind the scenes and making the right "deals" to set the stage for this album era. I wonder, though, how many actual PD's he got to meet. The first radio tour was targeted towards HAC stations. For the most part, it worked. It helped get BTIKM in the top 20. The second promo push for NCOE was targeted at CHR in the way of doing these large radio shows with multiple artists. It worked to a certain extent, but the problem now is timing. When non-established artists are promoting singles and albums, timing is more than half the battle! Adam will basically be MIA for a month or two now that he is doing the Queen gigs. The timing for these shows is going to hurt things here in the states. Other artists who are trying to get established (and even established artists) are releasing new singles and albums every week and they are here for the radio shows and events that happen in the summer. They are visiting radio stations and keeping themselves visible. PDs, stations and listeners move on.
