I do love how we all analyze and discuss, it's remarkable to me how many takes we all have viewing the same context. But, sometimes I think we try to make Adam way more complex then he may actually want. P.O.M.E.G.R.A.N.A.T.E discussions come to mind. I was sooo into how remarkable it was that they chose that fruit for the video especially after all the discussion we had regarding it's importance to mythology and darkness to light. I'm not being sarcastic either -- I really learned a lot through those discussions. But, it also just so cracked me up when Adam's explanation was, "We were looking for a fruit that would splatter." ! LOL so true! For someone like me who loves to analyze things to death, that was a bit deflating But no worries, art is about everyone finding their own meaning in it. :D Anyway, what I'm wondering about is why Adam is different from the others in the NCOE video and why did he have the power to change things? Was he a newcomer? A mutant? Or maybe he just had an epiphany and realized the power that was inside of him all the time? I think the last one is the theory I'm going with.
heheh... yeah, an epiphany in a puff of blue smoke. Open to several interpretations... I prefer to think it's an homage to Burning Man.
But... pomegranate? ;D

The first time I watched I actually didn't notice the significance of Adam's eyes not changing & not becoming blank when they went thru that machine (ya, I am dense sometimes.) Haven't we always thought he was a mutant, in a very good way! I think your theory, the bolded part, is what Adam has explained several times about the theme of the video. Important lyric "if we want it to." Susie, Yes!!! I love this part too!

Okay last post and then I've got to get ready for work. I understand if some people feel that the video could have had more amazing effects, more dancing, more etc. But seriously, take any 5 random videos from the VH1 Top 20 and you'll quickly see that most MVs are pretty dull and uninspired. Unless you've got Gaga amounts of cash, of course, in which case you get to make freakishly expensive videos that are more WTF than anything else.
Adam gets huge credit from me for always thinking outside the box and being so creative with his videos. And I love him even more for making videos that reflect some aspect of his personality. In this case, the power of positivity to make change and to break free. Pretty awesome, I think.

Notice, his are the only eyes that don't change...he's different, resistent to whatever mind control is being exerted over them so I take it that he's a new comer because he doesn't seem quite as "beaten" down yet.
