Many of the Queen fans who don't like the idea of Adam singing with the band have praised Marc Martel - which makes sense, because he's a good singer - but it makes me wonder if the Queen diehards prefer him over Adam because his vocal tones sound eerily close to Freddie's. Is that what they want, a Mercury sound-alike? Even if the singer has none of Freddie's emotion?
Speaking only for myself, I'd rather hear Adam, with all of his vocal powers and ability to deliver songs with passion, interpreting the Queen music catalog in his own unique, fresh way. With all due respect to Marc, the music deserves to be sung by someone who offers more than a copy (although it's a very good copy) of the Freddie sound. There can be only one Mercury. Just like there's only one AFL. I feel the same way. Put an impersonator in the tribute band, but Roger and Brian deserve a singer who can bring Freddie's strengths to the music without just being an imitator.
Kinda OT, but I think this is the dynamic that allowed Phillip to win over Jessica on Idol. Jessica has a great voice--technically much better than Phillip's. But when Jessica sang a Whitney song, she sounded like Whitney. When she sang a Mariah Carey song, she sounded like Mariah. When she sang a Beyonce song, she sounded like Beyonce. Even when she was singing with Jennifer Holliday on the finale, you could see her starting to take on a modified version of Jennifer's vocal inflections and mannerisms.
She's an impersonator. I still don't know who Jessica is as an artist. I realize she's only sixteen; maybe if she had waited a few years to audition for Idol, she would have had a better idea of how to present a song in her own style. But basically, it became a case of--yeah, she sounds great, but if I want to hear Whitney, I'll put on a Whitney CD.
And if I want to hear Freddie, I'll put on a Queen CD. These performers are still with us through their recordings, so why have an imitator? Why not have a singer like Adam who brings something fresh and wonderful to some great songs?

I was clicking around Adamtopia...thinking of PMing cassie... coming soon, cassie, and I found the thread: adamtopia.com/index.cgi?board=talkaboutadam&action=display&thread=669&page=6So if you are down for any reason click over there and hear all the praise. We may have a problem with some Queen fans, but on this "talking about Adam" thread we can remember that Adam is a highly praised artist and he can "sang". Thanks for mentioning this thread. At the start of Era #2 I was reading so many comments in reviews and articles about Adam's amazing voice. I wanted to have a place to collect them all for future reference. We currently have 6 pages of them! If you read something about his voice, please copy the quote and post it in that thread, along with the URL for the original article. Thanks.

Ha! That may be the most pithy, accurate Adam headline ever!

Ha! That may be the most pithy, accurate Adam headline ever! I don't read French. What does it say? Google translate says it means "kindness incarnating." So, does it mean "kindness personified"? Natural kindness? Demonstrating kindness?

Thanks, bamafan! I can't believe that marks almost two years since I saw him in a full-length concert (thank goodness for the set this spring to tide me over). Hope Adam comes back to Atlanta for some kind of show this summer, even if it's just a few songs.

I am enjoying "By the Rules" except: The intro reminds me of the corny organ that played at the roller rink when I was growing up.
