Adam is only gone until mid July, not August. The Japan trip is August tho and I expect they will do some promo while there. I don't know why and I don't know how they will get radio to spin Adam. It breaks my heart too because we know he wants radio. All the flowery poetic posts about all the great things he is doing (and he is) do not change the fact he needs and wants radio play. Can not be a Pop star without it. or get Grammy noms without radio play and sales. This album deserves Grammy noms! This album NEEDS to be heard and heard LOUD and WIDESPREAD and BIG! It is not even common knowledge that this album is out.

The truth is that we have enough stations on our list now if they would only play Adam... Just think if he was straight and from the south.. This man would be at the top of the charts all the time. Adam will survive ,he's got the best fans in the world.. we just need more of us.. Sorry, but the gay bias argument doesn't really have validity, IMHO. I know this has been pointed out before, but stations in major markets like NY and LA both played Adam's other songs, so I doubt they suddenly developed a severe case of homophobia. The southern regional bias argument also doesn't make sense to me. Beiber is from Canada, Gaga is from NY, Katy Perry is from California, etc. Actually there is more of a pro-UK bias these days! Radio is a business -- radio station owners and PDs make decisions based on money. Like TV networks, radio makes its money on selling advertising space. Advertising rates are based on ratings. The higher the ratings, the more radio stations can charge for advertising. Radio stations are battling with their competitors for listeners in order to maintain or grow their ratings. Decisions on what music to play is based on attracting listeners. So, radio stations want to play the music that will attract the most listeners -- that is, the acts that are perceived to be popular. That's the biggest challenge Adam faces IMO -- proving that he can attract listeners. In 2009, radio played Adam's music -- he had just come off American Idol, he had a fan base from that show and a lot of attention in the media. It is now 3 years later. Adam spent the latter half of 2010 on tour, and then all of 2011 working on Trespassing. He was out of the public eye for quite some time and some of his fan base has dropped away. He is no longer a sure thing in the eyes of radio. So, it is now a long uphill battle to try to regain his place on playlists. This is not about homophobia, it is about attracting an audience. Bottom line, if radio thought Adam could bring in listeners, he would be played as often as Katy Perry.

Queen is a hero to me for what they are doing for Adam in the UK and Europe. What better publicity could he have than having one of the greatest iconic bands of all time what him to sing the songs of Freddy because his voice is one of the rare ones that can handle the material. They are bound to fall in love. Most people in UK probably don't know how gorgeous he is yet. To paraphrase, wait tell the get a load of him.

Adam is in a weird postion. The media loves him, and he is probably the most famous pop star who isn't getting any radio play. This is going to be really unpopular, but I think the concentration on Queen is hurting the progress of his own album, at least in the US (and maybe in Canada and Australia). His album dropped here, and now he is basically gone until August. I just think it's bad timing. His team can try to pick things back up in the Fall, but once an album has dropped out of the BB200 it is very hard to resurrect it. And there will be a whole new group of "highly anticipated" albums being released in the fall. I am still trying. If NCOE can't crack CHR top 40 I doubt there will be a third single, at least in the US. And, unless something with radio changes it would probably be best not to release another... Sorry :( I think if the album had come out in March, as originally planned, things may have gone better in the US. Originally that was the plan. That would have been right in the middle of his radio tour, which would have been the optimal time to abandon BTIKM and release the second single. I know people don't like to criticize NCOE, but if the album was delayed primarily to include that one song, the song that is currently flopping at radio, was the 2 month delay really worth it? Could it also be as simple as the early spinners did their market research and listeners just didn't like it? That, in turn, would explain why many early spinners have completely dropped the song from their playlist and other Clear Channel stations decided not to add it when the market research came back if it wasn't positive. Too many fans had misgivings about this song. What's to say they weren't right?

The thing is, though, that radio can make or break almmost any song. If they chose to spin the hell out of NCOE, it would become a hit, because it IS a good CHR song. No station has done that yet, besides SIRIUS, and since they have no "market" or AI, it's kind of hard to judge that.

Agree, NCOE was to be the savior after the not successful BTIKM that is not even doing as well as its failed predecessor. I have always felt that they were both cowardly choices when a bold choice would have represented Adam and the album better. Both Trespassing and Shady for example are far cooler, more interesting songs. The two selected singles are a little out of sync with the album because Adam didn't write them. I think of Someone that I Used to Know as an example of a song that is so neat that it does't matter that the singer is not a teen heartthrob or that it doesn't sound like what is being played. It is a huge hit because it in different and a cut above. That is what Adam needed to kick of this era and it is frustrating that the album has many cool tracks of this ilk.

But this is where I disagree. I think RCA made the right choice for this second single. It is as good a song as any I hear on the radio. It fits right in with CHR radio. The PD's went for it. The quality of this song is not what is holding it back.

I think maybe people are asking the wrong question -- it is not "Why isn't NCOE being added?" The correct question is "Why should a PD add NCOE?" What does this song do to build their playlist? Does it hold their listeners? Setting that aside -- it is really early in this song's life. Here are the top 20 Top 40 songs ---- the songs that are getting the majority of Top 40 airplay: Chart rank | ARTIST Song | Spins | Release date | 1 | CARLY RAE JEPSEN Call Me Maybe | 14534 | 20-Sep-11 | 2 | MAROON 5 Payphone f/Wiz Khalif... | 13374 | 16-Apr-12 | 3 | GOTYE Somebody That I Used To ... | 13363 | 5-Jul-11 | 4 | ONE DIRECTION What Makes You B... | 10948 | 28-Feb-12 (US Radio) | 5 | NICKI MINAJ Starships | 9184 | 14-Feb-12 | 6 | FUN. - Most are artists who have had recent hits on Top 40 radio. - Only 3 of 20 songs were released since May 1, 2012. Those songs are follow-up releases to recent hits. - The new Top 40 artists on the list are CARLY RAE JEPSEN - it is a #1 hit in over 20 countries. Well, trying to go with songs that "fit in" with the playlist doesn't seem to be working very well. Adam is very unique and I think would have been better served by song as unique as he is, but it is too late for that now. It is what it is.

Go to news thread and read about how NCOE was removed from Dallas playlist after being given it a good chance. How was it being given a good chance? Were they actually playing it several times a day? I think the SF stations were giving it a good chance, with the spins being in the 20s and 30s every week and not all in the middle of the night. IMO, anything less than that doesn't seem like giving it a good chance.
