Kind of getting off the topic of Adam, but Juniemoon, I've made several trips to different areas in Texas for birding but most memorable to me have been places in West Texas - Big Bend NP and the Davis Mountains - something truly magical and special about the ambience of both areas - and it's not just the birds. Hope you can get out there sometime - I think there may be an Atoper who lives near Alpine, not sure though.

I want to go out to Big Bend and the Davis Mountains so much. It's almost 500 miles and I haven't been. I just need to set aside the time and do it. One of my friends has gone every fall for decades and loves it. Have you guys seen this? I'd love to know what you think. Should you be tweeting at gigs? Jack White and Bruce Dickinson think not ... www.guardian.co.uk/music/musicblog/2012/jul/27/jack-white-twitter-banThis article says that Jack White recently banned the use of Twitter and Facebook at his shows and asks people to keep their phones put away. Most of the article focuses on how filming is changing/damaging the concert experience for audience members and performers. The comments are pretty interesting too for a change. One of them mentions the thrill of watching YouTubes for those who couldn't attend. Another interesting observation in the article is this: After all, it only takes one disgruntled fan to influence the opinions of those who didn't experience the event first-hand.

Sorry guys, I have really meant to be present here, but RL and family have consumed me for ---well, all summer, really. Yes annala, I live near the BBNP, 70 miles from Panther Junction, in fact. We call it God's country. I have some really beautiful pics that we took of the mountains around our ranch, will have to upload them to photobucket and post here. Give me a few days.................... We have some amazing birds that come through here every year.
mika:Your "Big Year" story was so amazing, thanks so much for sharing. You are able to express yourself brilliantly!

You guys are all very sweet and the birds video was beautiful - what a wonderful word 'murmuration' is.... I'm no birder but I love them and I did take a first date to see "Winged Migration" - he was very cool about it I'll be up with more randomness very soon but I herniated a disc and it's making life a little tougher (or at least interfering with my ability to string words together ) Since Adam is watching movies, I will say that a friend brought over an old favorite of ours -- "Everything is Illuminated" - we recite the dialogue and I laugh, I cry, I wish Liev Schreiber would come over for a dinner party. Finally, I recently went to Bruges and brought back some treats...

One of the problems I have in staying current with Atop is that I feel so isolated and am constantly playing catch up on the daily threads.
Yesterday I stumbled into this beautiful garden. I had just enough time to skim a couple of posts, write something hasty, and then I had to leave. I did promise myself I would come back and try to read the rest of the thread.
Today I came back and the first thing I read was mika's Big Year. I am stunned. I am so incredibly moved.
Mika, I don't know what to say, except that I am bookmarking your post. I want to read it again. And again. I want to relive your experiences and feel again the emotions your words evoked in my head and heart.
I am so grateful to you for sharing with us. Thank you. Thank you.

I was going to post this in the main thread, but chickened out. Don't know how to bring the video here, but I guess Adam tweeted it.
I’m sorry, but I need to say my piece about the Paul McCartney YT. Let me get this straight. I did something illegal. A media person asks me if I did it. I don’t live under rock, am a major celebrity, and know that a media person’s job is to report what is told to me to the masses. Not a rumor, but a fact told to me by the person who comitted the crime. Not to mention the fact that I’m now talking to a host of a TV show. I choose to answer the question honestly while saying that it’s personal and I’d like to keep it that way. But, well, I was being honest................ However, it is not my fault or responsibility for spreading what I said to the masses, it is the media’s fault. THEY should choose not to report it. Huh?
Gee Paul, ya think you might have said “that’s none of your business” and kept it private in the first place? Especially since you said that was your wish? And it would not encourage your fans to try said illegal substance? I mean, they have not ever done anything because you did it, right? Okay, I get it, your admitting that you did it had no effect on them
I don’t see how this compares to Adam. His coming out is not something he does, it’s who he is. He encourages people to be honest about who they are. Not the same thing IMO.
I’m not saying that doing some drugs is a bad thing. Just the way he turned it around and blamed it on the media. WTF? How about taking some responsibility for your actions. Not necessarily doing the deed, but reporting it to a reporter.
Okay, let the disagreements with my interpretation fly. Just couldn’t keep my mouth shut on this one.
ETA: I do not have a problem with Adam talking or singing about tripping. But, to my knowledge, he never said that he wished to keep it private and blamed the media for reporting it.
