This is camp at its best – fun, fantastic and satirical.

In defense of CAMPINESS!
3.20.11 by Q3
Note: I do not believe that Campiness needs to be defended but WTF -- it gave me an excuse to post some fun stuff and a couple of my fav Adam videos.
On March 11, 2011, following his performance on American Idol, Adam revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that his next album might be a little less campy:
THR: You tweeted about recently working with songwriter Ryan Tedder, what else can you tell us about your new album?
Lambert: I think if anything, it might be a little less campy than the last one. With [For Your Entertainment], I really wanted to go high glam; it was always a vibe and a concept I was in love with and I did it for a year. I think evolution is good and I'm attracted to the slightly more serious… not so much fantasy or a mask put on -- which is fun, great f---ing rock-n-roll -- but I’m very drawn to music and artists that are singing from the heart about real things.

I guarantee that I will love whatever Adam puts out because I trust him. But since Adam raised the topic of campy – and because his very campy FYE album cover caused a bit of a stir – I felt compelled to confess, I love camp. Sure, camp usually misses the mark. But at its best – it is fun, sophisticated and can reach the height of social commentary. (At its worst it is a bad horror movie.)
One face of camp – twisting the familiar
Urban dictionary defines Campy as……
campy
1. “Camp” n. or “Campy” adj. refers to intentionally exaggerated thematic or genre elements, especially in television and motion picture mediums. “Camp” style willfully over-emphasizes certain elements of the genre or theme, creating an almost self-satirical milieu. Some of the most popular examples include the James Bond films (exaggeration of espionage activities) and the original Batman series starring Adam West.
Because it strives for satire, intentional camp is likely to have a sophisticated cult following, consisting of the people who "get it." See, for example, the remarks of Mystery Science Theater's Joel Hodgson: "The right people will get it!"
Batman/Robin - "Kokomo"
Legends of the Superheros
Legends of the Superheros
2. adj. being so extreme that it has an amusing and perversely sophisticated appeal. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is considered very campy, particularly to those in my generation.
Q3 translation: Anything by John Waters is campy – and fun. Here are people loving Pink Flamingos (1972) in the movie's trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjHo9kFN3Yg
Yes, I love it! Even when it's not so good
The grand dame Divine took camp to the extreme -- and occassionally too far. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiIJOB0GLW4&playnext=1&list=PL5E95DAE1A1526CCF
Women can be campy too. Cher, Bette Midler, and Gaga have perfected their campy spirits. Some diva moments are campy without planning. Here is Ann-Margaret and Tina Turner doing a duet – super campy: www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzaOuIyYYw0&feature=related
You can’t more campy than this trio – Cher, Bette Midler & Elton John on the Cher Show – but campy does not always mean it is good.
Yes, I love it most when it's good
Some campy things I love – B52’s (beehives!), Christina Aguilera, Cyndi Lauper, real James Bond, “Pulp Fiction”, “Snakes on a Plane” and “Sharktopus”, Bowie, Divine, and Little Richard.
But when you are looking for fantastic, entertaining campy performances, you cannot beat these two:
I Want to Break Free (1984)
Freddy Mercury in a parody of Coronation Street the British soap opera.
Adam – Strut
Knoxville with the cane drop and laugh.
Bonus Freddy being campy:
Freddy – The Great Pretender
Bonus Adam being campy in homage: Feeling Good (Top 5) LIVE - Adam Lambert
So when it comes to campiness -- I have one question:
What's not to love?

Tour #2: A Sneak Peek!
3/20/11 by NoAngel
Even as fans squail and flee over the newly-released GNT tour DVD/CD, there has been rampant speculation about what the next album (and tour) would sound like. The few hints Adam has dropped have served to mystify rather than clarify—“primal, raw, honest…” We love you Adam, but WAT does that mean??? Well, lucky you, I’m here to reveal. Thanks to my excellent ~connections, I was given an exclusive glimpse of Tour #2, and as soon as I disembarked from the magic tour bus, I hastened to write up my impressions. Here ya go:
The Primal Dreaming Tour—Opening Night
The line snakes around the block, even though it is hours until doors open. The fans don’t seem to mind; waiting is part of the fun. A quick scan of the crowd makes one thing clear—this ain’t your mama’s GNT. Glam has been replaced by grime. Instead of glitter, fans’ faces are artfully smeared with dirt. One cheerful lass walks the line, flinging handfuls of dust at anyone who looks too clean. A pretty androgynous man sells twigs for a dollar each. When questioned, he rolls his eyes at being forced to point out the obvious. “Haven’t you heard? No glow sticks this time. Just… sticks.”
Just as they did for his first tour, concert-goers are eager to dress up and play, and have outfitted themselves to befit the theme of the show. Problem is, as one fan laments, Adam has given the fans few clues with which to work. “Sure, we all know it’s about being real, and honest, and organic and primal. But different people interpret that in different ways.” A closer look reveals two distinct factions. One group is heavy on leather, accessorized with tribal jewelry and lots of metal. The other seems to have focused on the “raw and organic” concept, and is clad in hemp and unbleached linen, with necklaces of berries and miniature radishes for color.
The motif that unites is feathers, lots and lots of feathers—clearly an homage to Adam’s album cover, which featured the Grammy-nominated singer sporting iridescent wings and little else. Of course his first single, “I Told You There’d Be Feathers!” is ~flying up the charts.
Once inside the theatre, fans seek out the goods. To one side, a discount table is piled high with jars of glitter. But even at half-price, sales are sluggish. “Glitter is so GNT,” a young woman says, casting a look of scorn. Her sooty-faced friend chuckles, “Litter is the new glitter!” They laugh and hurry past.
It’s a different story at the merch table. The crowd buzzes with excitement and camera phones send pics to the Twitterverse to reveal the first official offerings of the tour. Never mind that it looks like a hands-on display at your local natural history museum, with bins of pebbles, bones, and shells. The vendors do a brisk business ringing up purchases from fans whose credit cards have been too-long dormant.
When the inner doors of the general admission venue open, fans rush in to arrange themselves according to the rules. The tallest people with the longest arms up front; those with claustrophobia and who are prone to dizzy spells in the center; guys who make animal sounds in the back.
Unfortunately, my friends, it was at this point that I was discovered by security, and was rudely shoved out the time portal and back into the present, so you’ll have to carry on speculating about the actual music. Meanwhile, I have some radish seeds to plant…
