Q3Sorry for the long post.I loved the thread yesterday and today its starting to be great also. Watchin all the campiness you posted count me in to the majorly campy people. Give me Pulp fiction, B52's , Bette Midler, Rocky Horror I AM SO IN. This reminds me of my daughter not OT (you can tell i'm very proud of her) She is in the final touch of her master thesis in political philosophy-theories of democracy. She's finished the university in philosophy with straight A's and honors. Her teachers love her.I always try to read her work and i'm always amazed at how well she can read and her interpretations of the work of Plato or Antonio Gramsci are works of art, even though i admit i dont understand everything she writes and she tries to explain it to me. One minute she is totally serious and the next minute she puts on her black nail polish and eyeliner and starts to dance and sing from the Rocky Horror Picture Show her favorite part. She watches that movie usually once a month. "It's just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right. Put your hands on your hips, and bend your knees in tight. But it's the pelvic thrust! That really drives you in-sa-a-a-a-a-ane! Let's do THE TIME WARP agaaaaaaain!" What i am trying to say is I want people to have both sides the serious sophisticated one and the campy.I'm sooo bored with just one side. That's why I love Adam and that's why i love all of you here at Atop. Adam and You are the perfect example of what all people should be.People who "get it".
NoAngel Loved you essay.
Poor me some dirt, poor me some glitter i dont care. JUST GIVE ME LIVE ADAM!!! YES! YES! YES! I love your post! I am on team pour me some dirt, pour me some glitter, just pour me some Adam. Like so many of you here, Adam has the gifts of intelligence and a highly developed sense of humor; one allows him to think and feel seriously, the other allows him to seriously think things are funny. Added to that, maybe even underlying all of that, is the fact that Adam loves to play. Sometimes he plays creatively between message and humor the way he does between his upper and lower register, depending on the mood of each given moment. It is a winning and charming and joyful combination. That combination made the GNT an amazing experience that became even better with familiarity, like the very best of camp. At the same time, the spontaneity of each show kept it feeling fresh and new each night. Adam will explore many sides artistically. He just did glam and glitter; now he needs to explore something different to keep creatively stimulated and to keep it feeling fun and real. More "honest"? More "organic"? But, who knows, maybe "with feathers" after all? Adam is just beginning to gather and play with ideas for #2. He doesn't really know how it will evolve yet, and neither do we, although it is fun to imagine. I don't worry about # 2 because Adam, himself, is the throughline: his voice, his talent, his energy and charisma. I just want him to keep doing whatever feels fun and right to him, because then we'll have "honest" music, and with Adam, that will be honestly perfect. Dirt, glitter, sticks... Bring it on.

Are you all getting e-mails every day with the link to The Aftermath remix on You Tube? I've been getting one from AO and MySpace every day for the past several days! I noticed the views are only 8,000 (seems strange, huh?) Do you think they want to get these views up. I mean it's not a music video, just the song, and we all have that already? www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQ7Q_AMimKMI haven't gotten that e-mail. I'm registered at AO so I don't know what the difference is. Not that I'm disappointed to not get an e-mail asking me to listen to a song on you tube that I've already bought from them. I'm getting the multiple times a day remix video too. It's from youtube, not AO, and I think it's because we're registered on youtube and subscribed to Adam's official youtube channel. Either they keep having problems and reuploading, or some hiccup got into the email notification program.

What is camp to one person is opera to another. Soaked was one of my favorite moments and the lower register voice brought tears to my eyes. I hope I did not upset anyone last night. When I get offended I sometimes get "mean." When "campy" was referred to as only "gay", I was offended. I lived through the 60's camping up myself for about 6-7 years. I thought I was wonderful and gorgeous and liberal. Never took a drug but I loved screaming for civil rights. I was the total wild child rebel and loved every moment. Then came children and marriage. I was more like Rickey Nelson's mother for about 20 years. I didn't turn into a rebel again until Adam came along. It feels so wonderful to be free again. Bring on the camp. I am in love with people (gay, straight, sane or insane), music, laughter, good booze, good friends, and fun again. Camp will never go out of style for me. I also want a huge party when I die. I don't do funerals. I always turn them into a drunken party. That's the kind of gal I am at heart.

Unfortunately, it is Top 40 radio who says what's current and what's not. Yes, current is a buzzword, hard to define and is ever changing but at the most basic it is something that gets airplay on the radio. As for Glee, they sing a lot of current hits. So there's that juxtaposition of style and content. It is not straight up musical theater which is - in a teenager's mind - 'old people's music'. Sorry to be so harsh and un-PC but that's how I see it. I definitely see your point, Sunflower, however I would use the word "mainstream" aka popular, to describe what is played on Top 40 radio. There is music that is "current" that isn't and never will be mainstream. Muse is current but I never hear them on Top 40. And isn't hipster culture all about knowing what is current and hip, and rejecting the mainstream? Yes, you are absolutely right, NoAngel, I actually thought about that but decided to keep it simple. Busted.

I can't wait for Adam's second album.. Camp is just another box.. Adam doesn't do boxes. He is a BOXLESS, creative force..IMO what Adam seems to be saying is that he wants to share more of himself with his audience. Maybe he wants to strip away ,the theatrical self and reveal the essence of Adam. Who he is ,where he's come from and how he's grown.I think the feelings of youth, growth and maturity will be universal feelings that most of us can relate to. Adam just may be going for 'REAL' My thoughts go to PINK's songs, she so goes for the gut. Yes, I agree. And speaking of Pink, I caught one of her performances on an awards show a few years back - the one with the infamous male back-up singer's face in her crotch. And I thought that was all there was to Pink. I wasn't impressed - just the opposite - turned off. Then a bit later on another awards show performance, she simply sat on a stool with her guitar and sang so beautifully that I became an instant fan. I would not now be a Pink fan had I not seen that second performance. Perhaps it's the same with Adam - to the uninitiated, his AMA performance gave one impression - not good IMO. Then came Ellen, Oprah, the View, his AI mentoring and WWFM performance, etc and people saw another side of Adam. The tour - another side - the fun, camp, sexy, and yes, serious side. No box for Adam. I think his popularity grows as people become aware that he is a mulit-faceted no-box performer and man. His incredible talent, his gorgeous good looks, his big heart, his humanitarianism, loyalty, sexy rock star, his fun side and his total adorableness when he is in love. All a part of this intriguing, fascinating artist/performer, man. I look forward with great anticipation and no fear to his next CD.
