Just watched Adam's "One" performance and I enjoy that so much more now than I did originally... I love Adam's studio verison on "One" I don't know what it is about this song, but if I want to unwind and relax it's my favorite. I actually was never a U2 fan, it's just something about the tone of Adam's voice on this song.

Like so many of you here, Adam has the gifts of intelligence and a highly developed sense of humor; one allows him to think and feel seriously, the other allows him to seriously think things are funny. Added to that, maybe even underlying all of that, is the fact that Adam loves to play. LYNNE, Brilliant!! Thank you!

Bruno Mars, maybe??? :-/ Bruno is one of the few male singers Adam has ever tweeted about. He's usually all about the ladies. Did he tweet to Travie McCoy about the song "Billionaire" and he liked it? Of course, it has Bruno Mars singing too. Have you seen the size of gauges Travie has???????? Yikes, scary!

Aluminum foil - I thought maybe he needed an antenna for his TV. My inner 16 yr old immediately thought makeshift bong. 8-) On that note, a lovely friend of mine from HS who was a bit of a stoner back in the day ended up marrying a guy with the last name Bong. She said the worst is when she tries to order pizza and gives her name they always think it's a prank caller.

The things I missed by being a goody two shoes until my mid-twenties.

Just a question ---- The UK major label gay artists were signed and released albums before they came out as far as I know. Bowie, Elton, Boy George, Freddy/Queen, George Micheal -- all released albums and had hits before they came out. There is a gay Australian UK-based, Sam Sparro, who was signed by Island and had a hit single in the UK -- Black & Gold. But that was not until April 2008. Who is the gay UK major label gay artist who was out and then released their first album or single? (Sure there is one, but who is it?) As far as I can determine -- Adam is the first openly gay American to be signed to a major label. There are no underground predecessors. There are not others. I believe that Adam is the First Openly Gay Artist to release a Major Label Debut Album in the US since 1945 with a major label promotional budget, broad radio support and US retail distribution.
Two openly gay artists with major label contract but not distribution before Adam are Sam Sparro and Ferras. Sam's UK hit "Black and Gold" was only a Dance Club hit in the US. His debut album was not distributed to US retail and was primarily a digital album in the US. (Did not chart on US Billboard 200.) The other is Ferras Alqaisi -- debut album sold 27,000 copies. He was signed to Capital but the album was not distributed widely -- initially it was digital only, followed by a limited release CD. Ferras had support from Idol like AdamFerras' ""Hollywood's Not America" peaked at #62 in the US mostly on sales driven by its use as the Idol Exit song for AI7 (2008). It peaked at #32 on Billboard Mainstream Top 40 (airplay), the highest radio position of any new gay artist until Adam. Who am I missing? Surely someone? The one I see thrown around the most is Jobraith. Here is the wiki page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jobriath which contains the following quote referencing events around 1972 During this period, Brandt continued making extravagant statements such as "Elvis, the Beatles and Jobriath" and declaring that both he and Jobriath had booked flights on Pan American's first passenger flight to the moon. Meanwhile, Jobriath declared himself "rock's truest fairy", a comment that did little to increase his popularity at the time but has since confirmed his status as the first openly gay rock singer to be signed to a major record label.[12][13] Good one! -- and he was clearly an out gay rock performer and on Electra in 1972 which was part of Warners. He became the "rock fairie" in 1972. His first solo album was on Electra in 1973 -- but he was frontman for Pigeon, a band that released an album in 1969 -- so the 1973 album only sort of a debut. But I think he deserves the title. He also had an infamous TV performance that was banned from netork midnight TV because of S&M Themes.

MomtomanyThank you for letting us know that your granddaughter is home. Penelope sure sounds like a fighter and modern medicine is so much better for preemies. Another story, my mother was born 2 months premature at home in 1930 rural Virginia. My grandmother kept her in a box next to the open oven door. She, obviously, survived. When Mom told the story, she always added that if she had been born in a hospital, the routine was to add a silver solution to the eyes of preemies and she would have been blinded. I don't know whether that's true and I always think, "I should call Mom and ask if I've got the story straight." She's been gone for a couple of years, now, and I miss her. Sorry your mom is not around to ask. Silver nitrate was commonly used in the eyes of newborns to prevent eye infections caused by exposure to bacteria (in particular gonorrhea and chlamydia) during the birth process. I've not heard of blindness being a side effect, although it could be irritating. They routinely use antibiotic solution now.
