I have learned a lot about Queen since being an Adam fan. I knew some of their famous songs but didn't know who was in the group, not even Freddie. I knew they were iconic--just didn't know much about them. I was as much impressed by the band as by Adam. Roger and his son did a great job, and Brian was astounding. The keyboardist and bassist were fabulous also. I'm not usually into being blown away by LOUD rock bands. But, for me, there was something different going on at this concert. The level of the musicianship was almost shocking to me. I actually liked the loudness because it was tasteful and musical and skillful, not just loud. Add to that Mr. Lambert, and I just can't get over it. I've never been so thrilled to "go" to a concert before. And, I'm sure you noticed, it didn't have any dancers, half-nakedness, trapeze artists, or banter between songs to keep us (me) entertain to the fullest. (Not that there is anything bad about the other things.) It was just great music performed by great musicians, with some lights thrown in for fun. The Queen team did a great job of putting that together. I'm going to go watch it again. I have NOTHING on my schedule today. Well nothing except practicing my violin, which is really hard to do with being all hyped up about the concert. The switch from Queen to Beethoven is really jarring.

I felt a revival of something yesterday that had slipped away a bit...not of my love for Adam, god knows, or of my appreciation for his talent--those are always there--but of that first-impression knock-out feeling--that feeling I got when I was first introduced to him when he was singing Satisfaction--that "who the hell is that kid and where the hell did he get those balls!?!" feeling. To see Adam, after the first few moments on that massive stage realize, suddenly, I OWN THIS, break into that knowing, present, smile of his, and proceed to SLAY IT, was newly miraculous. THIS! ^^^ You put in words what I felt. On top of that, for some strange reason, the opening song "Seven Seas Of Rhye" happens to be my favorite song of Queen from my childhood. There was something about those first lyrics "fear me you lords and lady preachers i descend upon your earth from the skiesi command your very souls you unbelieversbring before me what is mine" that suited the occasion perfectly :D I had a tear rolling down my cheek, followed by many more around WWTLF which is the one song I wanted to hear ever since GNT Soaked... It was indeed like hearing AFL for the first time. ETA: Just saw this image Gelly reposted, it fits perfectly:

I just watched the YT - BoRep part. At the end of the song some peeps said that they thought it was Freddie but actually it's Adam. The actual fact was Adam & Freddie sang the last lyrics together. I listened to the YT carefully, here's the breakdown: 1. Brian's guitar playing from 25.43 - 25.55, then 2. I heard Freddie at 25.57 "Nothing really matters" 3. Adam at 2.58 sang "Anyone can see" 4. Freddie 26.02 sang "Nothing really matters" (You'ld see Freddie on the screen behind Roger again), 5. Adam finished the songs with "Nothing really matters to me" Yes, they did a duet! The way Brian and Roger fused Adam and Freddie into this song was nothing short of brilliant! We were discussing it at the end of last night's thread Does anyone know if they did it this way with Paul Rodgers also? Yes, they did something similar with Paul Rogers -- but it was no so seemlessly integrated. I can't listen to this now -- but I think this is a sample of when they did it:

It's because, if I may insert my non musical expert opinion, the Queen songs are more melodic than most Rock songs! They are almost Rock opera-ish!

Rodgers is singing over Freddie on the one line at the end. Last night's arrangement actually alternated their lines. It was beautiful!

I love this google translation: Queen Group, in collaboration with the young performer Adam Lambert tore to shreds the main stage in Kiev. In the heart of Euro 2012, a charity concert dedicated to the fight against AIDS. The legendary Brian May, Roger Taylor and singer number one in the U.S. Adam Lambert made a bright show in the Independence Square. More than two-hour concert with all the legendary songs of the team ;D ;D ;D
