Thanks mys*&@^#r50, 4msrmyn, gingerpf and adamrocks. All good suggestions. The problem isn't that I've lost my files...I've tripled my files! My purchased files are still there in duplicate or triplicate as well as all of the imported cds, interviews, videos, etc. a lot of which I never uploaded to itunes. But, none of the playlists are there though and all the renaming and tagging is gone. I appreciate your comments. I'll try to get some human help from iTunes or Apple tomorrow. When you directed iTunes to Upload Music it went out on your PC and your hard drive and put all of the media files it found into your iTunes. If there is one copy on your PC and another on your external drive then it will find both and put them both into iTunes. You would have to go through and delete the ones you don't want, probably the ones from the external drive. You can tell which copy is from where by doing a "Get Info" for each song, but this is a very tedious pain. Somewhat easier to disconnect the external drive and then when you try to play the song it will put a can't find song indicator next to the song. Then you know which ones to delete from iTunes. Even easier would be to rename the *.xml file I mentioned in my last post, disconnect the external hard drive, and then restart iTunes (will now be empty) and direct iTunes to Upload Music. Or if you want less than 50% of the media files on your PC to upload to iTunes, then rename the *.xml file and use the iTunes File->Add Folder to Library to only upload the files you want. I believe someone else also said you can drag & drop the file/folders you want to iTunes.

I have downloaded the Kiev file below to my VLC player. It is a fabulous file. I am just finishing listening to it. Great sound and picture. The VLC player allows me to open it in the VLC player, Real Player, Windows Player, Windows Moviemaker and Quicktime Player. I haven't tried to make a DVD yet, but wanted to share how good it is. Unfortuneately, it's so good that once I start it, I have to watch/listen to the whole thing... ;D minus.com/lvhKDgWkLuq6HOh, what riches we have received these last few days... This is amazing. I am tech challenged and couldn't do what Talon so generously gave us. But yours can't be downloaded into iTunes can it? Sorry if this is a dumb question...but I know nothing about this kind of thing. [/IMG]
QuickTime is from Apple, so that may be the link. I really don't know - don't have an IPod, IPad, or use Itunes. But I'm sure someone here will be able to tell you. I know just enough to be dangerous... :

Guys, a friend made me a dvd from the Kiev show. It's magnificent! I've spent this very hot day on my couch watching and rewatching glorious Queenbert in Kiev.
I dunno how she did it (majorly tech challenged here), but I c/p to her all the info on 'how to' from here and then let her sort it out. So thanks to all of you who supply both the knowledge and sources. I flove you all...but I flove Adam most of all.

HELP! I'm seriously ready to jump out a window. I'm hoping someone here might know what I should do next. Yesterday I was finishing downloading all the Moscow videos and was starting to transfer some over to my iTunes library when I had the most awful thing happen. I had just finished copying the converted Kiev download with iTunes chapters into my iTunes (it was in my listing and showing in the viewer) but when I clicked for it to play, iTunes froze. I've had it freeze other times and all I would do was restart it. This time when it re-opened everything was gone!!!!!!! All my files and playlist were gone. All the customization and labeling gone. I was looking at the home page for newbies. No matter what I tried I could not get back to my files. The only thing I could access was the Store. I went online to find solutions but each one would have "buts" in the comments. The one that looks most promising suggested I go to my iTunes music library and previous libraries and make some adjustments there. But they were all empty too. I looked everywhere. I then went back to the home page and in desperation, I clicked on the upload music files hoping it would bring me to another screen but what it did was upload everything that was in My Music folders from both my C: drive and my portable disk drive including my iTunes backup files (which were also empty). Now I have stuff on iTunes I don't need there plus now I have three copies of practically everything. Some stuff I don't even recognize. I'm afraid to delete anything because Im not sure where each is really filed. When I went back to the itunes music libraries they are now filled with these files, even the previous libraries from 2009 and it's telling me I've got 23.3 gigs used space which means the original itunes files must have been there too but not visible to me. Does anyone have any idea what I can do? I certainly don't want to sync my iphone or ipad to this because it will wipe out what's on them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If this is the wrong place to post this, forgive me and please feel free to delete it. I'm just feeling a bit desperate tonight. What OS is your PC running - Mac, Windows XP, Windows 7, etc? And what exactly do you mean by music libraries? Is this something you saved under "library" on the left panel of iTunes or does it have to do with the *.xml file I talk about below? If Windows, did you check the "iTunes Music Library.xml" file which is probably in the Libraries/Music/My Music/iTunes directory? (I assume this file also exists on Mac but I don't use a Mac.) This is the file that iTunes uses to keep track of what music and information you have entered into iTunes. My guess is that this file became corrupt or that iTunes wrote over the file with a blank file when iTunes crashed. It is a good idea to make a backup of this file every time you make major changes to iTunes for such occasions as this. Just copy the file and append a date or version number at the end of the file name while iTunes is closed. Well, I don't know if this information will help you at this point but once you get things back to normal, it could help prevent this situation next time iTunes crashes. In that case, just copy the current *.xml file to another name (don't delete it till you are sure things are working again) and copy the last saved *.xml file to the "iTunes Music Library.xml" name and restart iTunes. As long as your music files themselves have not disappeared, this should recover your iTunes to the state it was in the last time you make a backup of the *.xml file. You might want to check and see if you have multiple *.xml files in the directory where the "iTunes Music Library.xml" is located or somewhere else. Just do a search on "*iTunes*.xml" in Internet Explorer starting at the Libraries directory or even the C directory. All of you with lots of stuff in iTunes, you may want to start making this backup on a regular basis to prevent this from happening to you! Thanks so much for this info. My OS is Windows 7. I'm too fried to check all of this out tonight but will get on it after work tomorrow. The library files I was directed to work with were the itl files. These were empty after the crash. I keep all my files on the external drive. Only the cd's that I imported to itunes are on the pc's hard drive. Thanks again.

skankface? I think you mean "stankface" as skank is slang for a promiscuous female.
