2001 LIVE
Again, no tour this year so a bunch of one offs, but some big ones!:
03/19/01 - Queen
Waldorf Astoria Hotel - New York, NY, USA (ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME INDUCTION)
Setlist:
Queen: We Will Rock You (w/Foo Fighters)/Tie Your Mother Down (w/Foo Fighters)/Steely Dan (w/Brian) - Do It Again/All Star Band (w/Brian) - Johnnie Boogie/Everybody Needs Somebody To Love
It was a nice induction. Although Brian later said it was weird playing to the VIPs who really weren't there to rock. It was nice to see Freddie's mother on hand to accept the award and as always it's fun to see the Foos fawn over the boys.
This is the first time that Brian and Roger share lead vocals on WWRY. I really site this as the moment where the slow engine started to churn again in Brian and Roger that let them think they might be able to do more as Queen again.
05/18/01 - Brian May
Wembley Arena - London, UK (w/Alice Cooper)
Setlist (w/Brian):
We Will Rock You (Intro/Solo)/School's Out
Brian guesting with good friend Alice Cooper.
07/06/01 - Brian May
Stravinski Hall - Montreux, Switzerland - Montreux Jazz Festival (w/Steve Lukather and Larry Carlton)
Setlist w/Brian: Luke's Blues
07/07/01 - Brian May
Stravniski Hall - Montreux, Switzerland - Montreux Jazz Festival
Setlist:
BRIAN: I Don't Want Nobody Teasin' Around With Me/Let Me Out/Tie Your Mother Down/ALL STAR BAND: Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On (w/Brian)
Brian makes his first appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival. The first day he jammed with some friends and the second day he got a nice 3 song set. Brian's whole family was there and Anita and some of his kids sang backing vocals!
07/07/01 - Roger Taylor - NA
Wintershall Estate - Bramley, Surrey, UK - Charity Gig w/BAND DU LAC featuring GARY BOOKER, ERIC CLAPTON, BOB GELDOF, and OTHERS
Setlist:?
On the same day as day 2, Roger was with the Band Du Lac doing another charity gig. This one was not well documented as I have no idea what was played, but if I were to venture a guess? Some combination of Radio Ga Ga, I Want To Break Free, These Are The Days Of Our Lives and A Kind Of Magic
08/11/01 - Roger Taylor
Fort Brockhurst - Gosport, UK (w/SAS Band)
Setlist w/Roger:
Radio Ga Ga/I Want To Break Free/A Kind of Magic/Rock and Roll/The Show Must Go On (w/Chris Thompson)/We Will Rock You (w/Tony Hadley, Leo Sayer, and Mark Shaw)/With A Little Help From My Friends (Fish)/You're The Voice (All Star Finale)/All The Way (All Star Finale)
- Roger guesting again with the SAS. Fun performances.
10/06/01 - Queen
Davington Priory - Faversham, UK - Bob Geldof's 50th Birthday
Setlist: ?
Not much is known but it was at Bob's house and an all star jam happened with Brian and Roger, Jools Holland on piano, Bill Wyman (of the Rolling Stones) on bass, and Gary Kemp (of Spandau Ballet) and Bob Geldof on additional guitar. Reportedly one song played was the Rolling Stone's Miss You and Mick Jagger sang it. Also in appearance but who knows who played were: Alan Yentob, Sting, John Hurt, Anita Dobson, Jerry Hall, Bono, Van Morrison, Dave Stewart, Jeremy Irons, David Frost, Angelica Huston, David Bailey, Marie Helvin, Katherine Hamnett, and Tom Stoppard.
10/09/01 - Brian May
Cambridge Union Society - Cambridge, UK
Setlist:
With God On Our Side/We Will Rock You
A kind of impromptu playing while there.
11/24/01 - Queen
The Ocean Club - London, UK w/SAS BAND (10th ANNIVERSARY OF FREDDIE'S DEATH)
Setlist:
Radio Ga Ga/Since You've Been Gone/Under Pressure/Strange Frontier/Tie Your Mother Down/No-One But You (Only The Good Die Young)/The Show Must Go On/We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions
Video does exist but unfortunately not on YT.
On the 10th Anniversary the SAS Band performed a tribute concert. Brian and Roger had mixed feelings about performing. Part of them thought it wasn't right to "celebrate" this date but in the end they thought they would do it for the fans and it was very tough on them but it was VERY well received. It also led to some unique moments.
Roger sang Radio Ga Ga, then went on drums to play Since You've Been Gone (which he hadn't played with Brian before). Under Pressure came next and then they really threw a curve ball playing Roger's solo track Strange Frontier! Also it was the first time they played No-One But You live for the first time together. A great gig!
NEXT? 2002 - Studio. Collaborations Again not much studio but some interesting pieces...
