Thanks for Mike Stone info, Talon. I was just curious since BM spoke so highly of him in the video. Didn't know he passed away.

Highly unfortunate too as the band was going to go back to him to remaster some of the catalogue into 5.1 surround sound.
All lost too soon...

Today's song...
She Makes Me (Stormtrooper In Stilettos)
Written by: Brian May
Brian May - lead and backing vocals, acoustic and electric guitars John Deacon - bass guitar, acoustic guitars Roger Taylor - drums
- A Freddie-less Queen song...it did happen!
- Includes Brian's Red Special mimicking a NYC police siren and some pounding rhythm from Roger.
- The subtitle was used as the name for an exhibition of early years Queen items (costumes, tapes, lyrics, videos, etc.)
- This track was never played live.
QUOTES:
- "(The subtitle) was actually Roger’s idea in the beginning to put this subtitle on because he said, ‘Look, I really like this song, it has a great beat and everything but I don’t like this title. This is in 1975 (sic) or something. He said, ‘You should call it ‘Stormtroopers in Stilettoes’ if it has this big beat.’and I said ‘OK, you can call it that as well if you want.’ So we put ‘She Makes Me’ and in brackets (‘Stormtroopers In Stilettoes.)" – Brian May – 2011
UNRELEASED & UNHEARD
EARLY DEMO VERSION
- It is stated that there is an earlier version of the track in the vaults somewhere but it has not been leaked if it does exist and not much else is known about it.
PERSONAL NOTES:
- Honestly, not one of my favorite tracks. I have to be in the mood for it, but with that being said there are some cool things about it. The cacophony of Brian's nightmare ending is very interesting and Roger's powerful beat as well. It is a bit droney though for my tastes.
Next up one of my favs of the early Queen period, In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited

She Makes Me (Stormtrooper In Stilettos)- A Freddie-less Queen song...it did happen! I wonder how they handle this: BM: Freddie, you don't need to be in this song FM: Who will do the lead vocals then? BM: Me FM: O_OOOKKKKK. ;D Is there anything BM can't NOT do with his guitar? He continues to amaze me.

But then again he hasn't tried

There was one documentary (can't remember which one) where they were shooting a video of CLTCL(?) where FM said something like "Common let's hurry up before Brian gets here". You know what I'm talking about? Was FM concerned BM will not approve? The video had a scene with motorcycle. Was it CLTCL video?

Actually that was the AUDIO recording of Crazy Little Thing Called Love
While the band were all perfectionists to a degree, Brian was/is a perfectionist to the utmost degree spending days on two or three measures of music.
Freddie got the idea of Crazy Little Thing Called Love while in the bath and quickly wrote the song in about 10 minutes. He ran like heck to the studio and appreciated the song's simplicity and he didn't want Brian to obsess over it so he did indeed say something to the effect of "Let's lay down a studio track quick before Brian can get at it!"
In fact that's one major reason Freddie made his debut as a rhythm guitarist on the track! Because he laid it down before Brian got there!. In addition, Brian says there exists a studio cut with Freddie doing a rudimentary solo even although it was just as a placeholder for Brian.
Brian got there and the song was practically done and he thought OH BOY I better hurry up and put something down!
It's a funny story and shows the band in a different dynamic!

Another drive by post. Just to thank you, Talon, for the Queen classes. Don't know much about them until Adam and appreciate your time and sharing your incomparable library of facts about them. Don't know what to ask since I'm just starting to know them and you also give a comprehensive info of each track and album. I come here everyday to read your updates and whatever is being discussed off track/album. Thank you again.
