You are very welcome maya! Thanks for sticking around And if anyone has suggestions, I'm more than happy to add additional things organize slightly differently. As it is I will be slightly changing the format soon thanks to some suggestions from Gabby. Later on today will be the post on the last track from Sheer Heart Attack. Before moving on to A Night At The Opera I will be taking a quick look back to add the live element to what has gone down thus far. I will do a post regarding a quick look at the band's live PRE-Queen activity. So from 1957 (!)-1972 with maybe some small notes here and there. Then I will do a few posts going into detail regarding significant gigs from that time period or so. Then I will go by year. 1973. Then significant gigs. 1974. Signiificant gigs. THEN I'll be caught up and moving forward we'll mainly go by year as follows. 1975: I'll start with all the main studio output (any band or solo release that year). Then I will note (most likely in far less) detail the miscellaneous studio output such as collaborations etc. THEN I will do the live presentations of the year detailing major tours first and any significant gigs, etc. Then I will do the other miscellaneous one off gigs/collaboration gigs, etc. The only difference in that plan will be if the band starts a TOUR in 1975 that goes over into 1976, I will probably detail that in one setting and do the rest of the 1976 live stuff in 1976 for example. On the same note if a band starts touring an album in one year (such as Roger in 1998) before the album comes out, (in 1999 in that case) I will probably save those 1998 performances to be put in the 1999 touring post. Is that clear? Any questions? Ideas? Anything you want added/deleted?

Today's post! The last song on Sheer Heart Attack and one of my favs of the early period...
In The Lap Of The Gods...Revisited
Written by: Freddie Mercury
Musicians:
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano Brian May - guitars, backing vocals John Deacon - bass guitar Roger Taylor - drums, backing vocals
- An early forerunner to We Are The Champions this Hey Jude-inspired singalong often closed many concerts of the day.
- It shares very little with it's namesake except perhaps for both songs being about letting things be and not forcing the issues.
- Played live through 1977 when We Are The Champions took over but then was reintroduced for the medley in 1986. It is the rare song that Freddie actually used his falsetto live for. Most songs, he would sing alternate lower notes than go falsetto for reasons only he knows - mostly involving the power of his lower register I believe for as this (and Impromptu which I'll get to later show that he certainly can do falsetto live quite well![/b]
ALTERNATIVE RELEASED VERSIONS:
DIGITAL MASTER SAMPLER EDIT
- NOT essential listening
- From 1994's Digital Master Sampler, the only real difference is the outro is edited down.
UNRELEASED VERSIONS:
EARLY TAKE
- NOT essential listening
- Property of Queen Productions. Yes this is another convention sourced demo. It is instrumental without Brian but does contain some additional piano at the end.
OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
LIVE AT WEMBLEY STADIUM Day 1 - Day 2-
- I always love that the bigger the crowd, the more comfortable Freddie seemed!!!
HUNGARIAN RHAPSODY
- AUDIO only as the video was taken down.
LIVE AT THE RAINBOW 1974
- A great take from the closer of the tour.
UNRELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
LIVE AT HAMMERSMITH - 1975
- Another great live early gig although Freddie doesn't use his falsetto in this one.
BRIAN MAY - FREDDIE'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION - READING - 1999
- The SAS Band do a lot of performances around Freddie's birthday and anniversary of his death and the like. This year was a real one off when Brian May decided for the first and only time to sing lead vocals on this track.
QAL - LIVE IN CHICAGO - 2014
- This was a nice addition to the set and Adam handles it quite well.
PERSONAL NOTES: - This is one of the tracks I had hoped QAL were going to do. It's very theatrical, engaging, and powerful. Freddie at his dramatic best!
OK! Probably no post for tomorrow as I'll be at my brother's wedding. Throughout the day though you can look back at the earlier posts of the thread as I may be editing a few of the Pre-Queen stuff so that I can add some videos for the sake of completeness!
Then we'll start looking at the LIVE element of the band in three sections.
1957-1972 1973 1974
AND THEN on to 1975 where we will start with the seminal album of Queen's career....A Night At The Opera

FM: 1. Larry Lurex (Freddie Mercury) - I Can Hear Music I hardly recognize his voice here. Sounded very young (in his 20's?). It didn't help with so much distortion in the audio recording. www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5tr6O1XvjM&feature=player_embedded#! 2. Freddie Mercury - Love Me Like There's No Tomorrow (1985) Maybe I'm just spoiled ... used to hearing BM's playing style that I miss his guitar sound here. FM still sound passionate and his singing like he always does but the background music doesn't seem to support it. Missing the richness and complicated layers of the Queen sound. Like I said, spoiled :D www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLSCwNtJYjA&feature=player_embeddedRT: 1. Roger Taylor - I Wanna Testify (1977 full version) Love the rocker Roger and I can see he was multi-tasking then. Lacking Queen sound but I understand since this was pre-Queen. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhKJQxMBoZA&feature=player_embedded2. ROGER TAYLOR - STRANGE FRONTIER HD Hmm... what's with RT and cars? :D Didn't care much for this song. Could it be because I am looking for a particular sound? :D www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw7l790UsPc&feature=player_embedded

I see that. Powerful chorus! It is beautiful! Love the passion especially in this version: LIVE AT THE RAINBOW - 1974

Yes very young 20s. One of the first things he recorded. He is very light sounding. I wish there was a better quality version on YT! But yes very good... Whoa whoa whoa! Going ahead of the class here! I'm not going to get here for QUITE a while :D But you are right. I love this song though, it is one of my favorite Freddie solo tracks. But for Mr. Bad Guy especially as Freddie's solo album, his use of session musicians does make for songs that are would have been much better in Queen. That is true about most of the solo material...the group was much better together than apart! Brian probably fared best because his guitar sound was an anchor and while Freddie's voice was better, Brian's voice is still very Queenish. So it's TWO aspects of Queen. But we'll get there :D Again ahead of the class! :D IN this case it wasn't pre-Queen actually it was the first solo single...I'll discuss this more soon definitely but Roger's solo albums are probably the furthest from the Queen sound...especially the first two as he concentrates more on dirty guitar sounds, etc. As he gets into the later solo albums they have more of a grander feel again. Were you just browsing through? :D If you don't like this song, you probably won't like much of his second album. It's a very 80s sounding album to be honest. I do have a pretty cool live version of it though that I think rocks :D I think it also might grow on you. I wasn't so fond of it at first, but now I dig it

Didn't even realize some of them were way ahead of what we are currently discussing. ETA: #itsconfusedgabbysfault ;D

Guess what? I went to the wrong page (#2) instead of page 3. That's where I saw those videos clips. #colormeconfused :
