The Man From Manhattan - Eddie HowellTalon, can you explain why Freddie was in the original version but in the Back Again version Tim was singing? I thought the collaboration was with Freddie and Brian already in the formed Queen group and Tim joined another group ..or was this at that transition time between Tim and Freddie as Queen vocalist? I hope you understand what I'm talking about up there ;D The Back Again version sounds very "Queen" much more than the original. ETA: I just reviewed the dates and saw that Back Again was done in 1969 and the one with Freddie and Brian May was done in 1976. So that explains Tim vs Freddie in each respective version. Did the 1969 version start as a demo?

You Nearly Did Me In - Ian Hunter I'm not a big fan of any sax in rock songs to be honest. I mean I don't often mind it but I can usually do without it...including this song. Exactly! I thought I was listening to a Kenny G record when that sax came into play at the intro ;D

Did the 1969 version start as a demo? I do understand the confusion. :D The answer is a simple one. All the versions were done at the same time in 1976. There is no 1969 version with Tim. The reason why the video would state it is that in 1997 a Japanese company released a compilation called Ghost Of A Smile. It was a semi-legal release....you can actually still get on Amazon. I'm not sure how it was legal but no one ever stopped it. The compilation collected all the Smile works and then added two versions of Man From Manhattan as bonus tracks to fill out the album. So to sum up, Smile never did the tracks, Tim never sang on it - all four versions are just different mixes of the original 1976 song with Freddie & Brian on it

Four dates in September, which culminated in a free gig in London's famous Hyde Park. This gig was free as a thank you to their audience and drew approximately 180,000 people. - It also was the only time in the band's history (not counting the pre-Queen-Queen II establishment) where they played songs before they were released on an album ( You Take My Breath Away and Tie Your Mother Down). 09/01/76 – Queen Playhouse Theatre - Edinburgh, UK Setlist: ? 09/02/76 – Queen Playhouse Theatre - Edinburgh, UK Setlist: Flick of the Wrist/You're My Best Friend/Bohemian Rhapsody/Killer Queen/March of the Black Queen/Bohemian Rhapsody/Bring Back That Leroy Brown/Brighton Rock/Son & Daughter/'39/You Take My Breath Away/The Prophet's Song/Stone Cold Crazy/Doin' All Right/Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon/Tie Your Mother Down/Keep Yourself Alive/Liar/In The Lap of the Gods...revisited/Now I'm Here/Big Spender/Jailhouse Rock/God Save the Queen 09/10/76 – Queen Castle - Cardiff, UK Setlist: ? "The sight of the rain pouring down through the spotlights on everybody, and of Freddie splashing his way through pools of water at the front of the stage will remain indelibly printed on our memories forever. The fact that people stayed on and enjoyed themselves right to the end made it quite a moving occasion for us. In fact, I was so overcome I just had to wreck me drum kit at the end, which reduced 'Crystal' my roadie to floods of tears rivalling the rain (it was a brand new kit too!). Anyway if you were there thanks for being our bravest audience ever and I hope the pneumonia cleared up." - Roger Taylor 09/18/76 – Queen Hyde Park - London, UK Setlist: A Day At The Races Intro/Bohemian Rhapsody/Ogre Battle/Sweet Lady/White Queen/Flick of the Wrist/You're My Best Friend/Bohemian Rhapsody/Killer Queen/March of the Black Queen/Bohemian Rhapsody/Bring Back That Leroy BrownBrighton Rock/Son & Daughter/'39/You Take My Breath Away/The Prophet's Song/Stone Cold Crazy/Keep Yourself Alive/Liar/In The lap of the Gods...revisited More in depth: Live at Hyde Park - September 18th, 1976This gig was organized as a homecoming of sorts. The band had achieved great success on the road touring America and Europe but wasn't sure how big a gig would be in their home turf of the UK. The band needn't worry. The only gaffe on the night is that the band went over their allotted time by the authorities and they threatened to arrest the band if they went on for an encore. Given that Freddie didn't want to spend any time in jail whilst in his leotard, the band agreed to end the show a bit prematurely. These gigs and this one specifically first saw Freddie's white spoiler suit. Freddie chose white so that it could seen for miles! THE COMPLETE GIG- Unfortunately the quality is nowhere near release worthy but perhaps with some work? Next up we hit the 1977 Studio running! Roger is the first member to try something on his own with a single. It ends up being a standalone single and has never been on any album since. I Wanna Testify which is backed with Turn On The TV

My first reaction was hell no because Brian has ALWAYS said he does not tweet or FB or anything but it does seem that perhaps Adam has inspired the doc to join the twitterverse! Awesome!

Voted.
Is it possible someone else will manage Dr. May's twitter and use it only for specific purposes? I'm a techno-twit and know nothing, of course (except that this is a stupendous thread).

It's possible. It seems to me though that this one is the real deal. His brianmay.com twitter feed is managed by his webmistress. This one seems to me the one he's going use himself (mostly to promote his work saving the badgers). But I have the feeling it will be something he doesn't do very long after the novelty wears off...but I could be wrong!
