Get Down, Make Love
Written by: Freddie Mercury
Freddie Mercury - lead and backing vocals, piano, vocalizations
Brian May - guitars, harmonizer
John Deacon - bass guitar
Roger Taylor - drums
- The first really overtly sexual song of the band's catalogue. They've skirted around the issue before and have definitely used innuendo but this was the first attempt to be really sensual. A glimpse into the future as the band will experiment with their funky side a bit.
- Played live through 1982 but dropped when the band basically dropped all their dancy numbers after the Hot Space debacle of sorts (minus Another One Bites The Dust).
- Later on when you listen to the BBC version of It's Late from later in the album you'll hear that they used the middle instrumental "noise" section in the middle of that song.
QUOTES:
- "That’s the harmoniser thing, which I use. I’ve used it as a noise rather than a musical thing. It’s controlled because I had a special little pedal made. Which means I can change the interval at which the harmoniser comes back at and the harmoniser’s fed back on itself, so it makes all these swooping noises, and it’s just an exercise in using that together with Freddie’s noises. It’s sort of an erotic interlude." - Brian May - BBC Radio 1 – 1983
OFFICIALLY RELEASED LIVE VERSIONS:
LIVE KILLERS VERSION
- AUDIO only.
ROCK MONTREAL VERSION
ON FIRE AT THE BOWL VERSION
NO YT VID
COOL COVER VERSIONs
NUNO BETTENCOURT LIVE IN LONDON - 1998
- I have always loved Extreme and Nuno is one of my favorite guitarists. This is during Extreme's hiatus but is a very funky breakdown of the song.
NINE INCH NAILS
- Nine Inch Nails are big Queen fans and Trent has remixed a few songs of theirs. This is a much different, industrial take on the tune but very intriguing.
PERSONAL NOTES:
- A real funk rocker. Sometimes the noises are a bit too random for me to really enjoy but overall it is a very sensual song. I'd actually be surprised if Adam didn't want to cover it...
Next up: Brian goes bluesy on a song done in 1-take (basically) - Sleeping On The Sidewalk

Get down make love
Get down make love
Get down make love
Get down make love
You take my body
I give you heat
You say you're hungry
I give you meat
I suck your mind
You blow my head
Make love
Inside your bed - everybody
Get down make love
Get down make love
Get down make love
Get down make love
Every time I get hot
You wanna cool down
Every time I get high
You say you wanna come down
You say it's enough
In fact it's too much
Every time I get a
Get down get down get down
Make love
(Get down) I can squeeze - (make love) you can shake me
(Get down) I can feel - (make love) you can break me
(Get down) Come on so heavy (make love)
(Get down) When you take me (make love)
