About the rumour, just FYI (from MJs): "And Mark Malkin is the gossip columnist who reported that X Factor had offered Glee star Darren Criss a position as host. Later, Darren said that he stayed quiet as the item churned through the news cycle, because the rumor was so AWESOME–but that NO the report was 100 percent FALSE." So even though I LOVE the press this is generating, this could still be a totally baloney rumor. Just sayin' before people get all excited or all annoyed about it, either way hahaha. Also the first place that broke the rumor of Britney as judge on X Factor!

If I ruled the world, I would want Adam away from Idol forever. One of the things that has made me so so happy the last week or so was Adam being feted for his voice and amazing stagecraft, rather than lumped in with "Idols" who get pumped and dumped with ever-increasing rapidity.
Adam is a real musician with something wonderful to say. Trespassing is a thrilling wave of creativity. I want Adam to stand out, radically and frequently, and to have a life creating art of endurance, individuality, and substance. Art of the kind he has been helping bring back to us this past week with Queen, tunes and experiences for the ages that liberate the human spirit.
Yet … I do see that the conditions that created career paths for our favorite artists of yesterday don't exist anymore. The music business is less than ever a question about the quality of the music. Adam has been "arriving" for years but never seems to get there. It seems the channels are jammed.
I also see that Adam needs a source of income independent from the direct returns from his music, and a way also to goose those returns. I am assuming that Idol would be a job that required very little of Adam’s time or emotional investment and would not require him to compromise his guts and principles. Maybe something like this would in its own weird way allow Adam to create music to his own criteria – music like Shady and Cuckoo and Underneath – and get it in front of people again.
I would much rather see Adam with a cable show under his own control, where he could perform and bring forth guest performers and the like, but maybe this would be a path in that direction. One thing I do know is that he has to make a radical move … I guess part of me hates it and part of me thinks it would be fun to see Adam use something like Idol (again), the ultimate establishment show, as an end run around “The Man.” I guess we’ll see if there’s any substance to it or just a rumor.

Of course Adam would make a stellar judge on Idol. 1. He looks great on TV. 2. He knows the "game" of being an Idol hopeful. 3. He is young and now. 4. He is articulate, warm, personable. 5. He has proved himself to be a good mentor on Idol and Majors and Minors. 6. He can sang. 7. He has many years of voice training and can.......wait for it.... ACTUALLY GIVE HELPFUL, SPECIFIC, ACCURATE FEEDBACK ON THEIR SINGING. 8. He has many years of experience on stage craft and presentation: costumes, lighting, make-up, movement, owning the stage. HE CAN ACTUALLY GIVE HELPFUL, SPECIFIC, ACCURATE FEEDBACK ON PRESENTATION. 9. He has copious knowledge of popular music spanning decades. He listens to everything, constantly. He has his finger on the pulse of what is happening in music right now (as opposed to another Adam who didn't know that Adam Lambert sang WWFM). HE CAN ACTUALLY GIVE HELPFUL, SPECIFIC, ACCURATE FEEDBACK ON WHAT SONGS TO CHOOSE. 10. He wants to do it to help the young contestants improve and reach for their dreams. What a concept! 11. He is living proof that Idol DOES produce world wide stars. (We won't tell anyone that Adam gets the credit for achieving that, not Idol. After all, they did hook him up with Queen.) As to whether this would be a good move for Adam? To quote Simon, "We each have our own opinions." I think I am coming down on the side of "Yes." Being a judge on these singing competitions has certainly paid off in terms of visibility and sales for other artists. And, as someone said, it beats traveling around the country, getting up at dark thirty to go to a radio station and pleasantly answer inane radio DJ questions in order to get the word out about his music --- when they still don't play him afterwards. We've been talking about how Adam can reach the next level of success if he cannot get played on the radio. Getting rave reviews about appearing with Queen might be one way. But, it ties him to music that is 30+ years old. Idol would lend him visibility for his new music. I know we want Adam to distance himself from Idol. (Whether he is mentioned as former runner-up, or former winner ) However, history shows us that the Idol label adheres to artists for many years. So, instead of trying to ignore it, why not re-frame it? "Idol and other reality shows pump out dozens of mediocre, artificially created, disposable singers, but, once in a blue moon, a world wide star emerges. See? It CAN happen. In four short years, Adam has gone from singing in the back of the chorus to being acknowledged as the best male singer in pop/rock music today. And now he comes back to Idol to share his experience and expertise with the next generation." Given the right spin, it could work. But, for this news cycle, just the rumor is all "win."

"...Since his Idol run, Lambert, 30, has sold more than 4.2 million albums worldwide and earned a Grammy nomination. His second album, Trespassing, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard in May. He's currently performing a string of shows in Europe with Queen." 4.2 mil? ??? It's 4.2 million tracks. I actually think they combined album and single totals here.
