Another black sheep here.
We don't watch Idol anymore, we watched the first three years, then got tired of it. The main reason we don't watch is because we love NCIS, it's our (dh & I) favorite show, and it is on Tues nights opposite AI.
I happened to see Adam the first time, while channel surfing during commercials, when he was singing ROF. I was not smitten then, and I remember commenting to my dh, "look at this guy, not your typical idol contestant". That was the only interest I had, until about the top 5, and my son called me from Houston and was telling me how good Adam was. Then I started taping the shows and watching them later, but only the last five, or maybe seven? I really can't remember.
When I first got excited about Adam, I didn't know anything about online blogs, the AI site, MJ's or anything. I never even Googled Adam, and still don't, who needs that with all the great ninjas here? I did find Planet Fierce on Google, but hadn't watched any of the Zodiac or Caberet performances.
Anyway, I can't really pin down when I got so "smitten" by Adam, probably when he sang "Feeling Good", I think I was watching the show by then. It was so curious to me that no one (judges) seemed to get that he was doing a performance just like the one of the "rat pack" of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, and the other guy (sorry, can't remember the last guy) would have done, I remember the Dean Martin show, and the Gold Digger dancers, and Adam did a performance that is right out of that era, it was brilliant!
I was totally impressed with Adam's version of "No Boundaries", CIGC, and of course all of his parts on the Finale show, especially singing with Queen.
I happened to catch the entire season aired on Reality TV the following year, taped the whole season, and have watched them many times.
But, I knew Adam wouldn't win, and my son and I had several conversations about it. I knew this because, and this is still very obvious to me despite all the "conspiracy and voter fraud" rumors, that quite simply, most of Danny Gokey's votes went to Kris Allen.
Then, I kind of forgot about Adam. My summers are usually busy with vacations and grandkids, and did not watch ONE AI concert YT. I started getting excited about Adam again when his album came out, lurked at Planet Fierce, and watched with horror when Adam "tanked" on AMA show. (In retrospect, I LOVE Adam's AMA performance, and the only fault I see is his vocals were not the best that night, and the song seemed a little slow, and the backing singers were off. I have watched that performance many times.)
Still, I was by then really hooked, and finally joined PF in March of 2009. The rest is history.
