Every time during the "Adam's charting" discussion the idea of "he needs a great song" gets mentioned and every time I see it I think "but what does this mean?"... Are the top charting songs "great"? By what criteria? What makes them great aside from the fact they've charted high? sort of catch 22 ain't it? I am totally convinced that Adam's songs are not any less great than those on the top. By any technical criteria they ARE great: they are written and produced by the top teams and they are performed better than any... I am so happy streaming is here and radio with it's politics and back room deals is loosing its importance. (There is a problem of artist's compensation of course but that's a different discussion). YES!!! So agree with you.

Yes! Streaming is awesome! It helps level the playing field! It's something any fan can do, to help the artists they love! Remember when there was nothing to do after initial purchase of a single or album! Streaming counts, for certification and an artist's income! STREAM! I stream Adam songs 24/7!

ITA with all of this, and they'll (whoever "they" are, lol) figure out the compensation. He's doing so well that radio clearly isn't the only means to the end. I was a huuuuggge pop and rock radio listener back in the day; now I only listen to occasional pop or rock stations and mostly news talk stations. I got older, which stinks, but that's not the reason for my switch. Music still guides me, but the selectivity and repetitiveness of radio music is so awful that I'm better off listening to the news (although that's freaking scary, too, lol) my own Ipod playlist or Sirius. Who needs radio these days? Clearly not Adam, who is thriving, having fun and sticking it out in a hard business without a lot of presence on it!

Adam's biggest hurdle to overcome is that he is white???? How do you suppose he will overcome that? I don't really care if anyone agrees with me or not,but this thread has homophobia written all through it. And the best part is that some can't see it. Now we are speaking to artists skin color? In 2017? This is becoming a slippery slope and pretty offensive to read. I said white solo male. Yes. jun14, just look at the charts. I am not making up what is charting consistently. Top 40 radio is dominated with female artists, DJ collabs, groups, and males of color. It is a fact and has nothing to do with me being prejudiced. It just is. I have nothing to do with what charts and what doesn't. But I watch the charts regularly & some things just are. The Grammys skew female also. Since male and female were combined into one category (2012) only 7 males have been nominated, out of 25 nominations. And to answer your question: I don't think Adam has to overcome anything. I think he is fine just the way he is! I think he needs a great song! I am happy with the way GT performed. Another song as successful as GT would make me a very happy fan. Why even point out color to begin with? What's the point? Just because it is? What will you point out next just because "it is." What is the benefit to that? Will you next point out who has green eyes, married or single, fat or skinny, black hair or brown hair? Straight or gay? Where do the qualifiers end? Adam has tried to tell people to stop putting people in little boxes. You, imo, just put him into a little box of not being white. And called it a hurdle. As if being white is a hurdle. It is the 'way" that you posted it so glibly that I took offence to. As I have been told here, you have discussions. So go ahead and discuss. Free world to do that. I however am also entitled to my opinions and I am offended. Carry on.

To cite someone's race as an obstacle to success indicates the person would have a better chance if the person were not of that race. Causality is implied. Lately we're hearing a lot about the obstacles white men face. I doubt that was the intent, but, personally I think words matter. discounting actual statements in favor of 'what he really meant' has not had a positive effect on society of late. JMHO YMMV (back to lurking)

Once again this is not a discussion on race. But simply the demographics within the mainstream market.

I had a friend who owned a fabulous restaurant. It got rave reviews from papers as well as diners. Lasted 18 months, no one could figure out why. Shit happens, or doesn't. Same thing with music. MM might have good instincts but no magic formulas. Adam is doing great, just my opinion.
