I think one factor you guys left out and I'm sorry to have to say this. It's not only Adam's age, but also the age of his fan base. Especially in the US that's pretty old (no disrespect intended and those of you I've met know it doesn't matter to me at all). I have played with 18-19 year olds when I was 29 in my volleyball team and those girls already thought I was ancient.
Adam already had a older fan base coming from Idol and frankly there was and still is a lot of tension between the older and younger people in his fan base. I'm not following a lot of people, but a couple of the younger I follow really diss the older because they completely drown new fans and scare them away. Of course this doesn't count for everybody, but we have seen at the radio gigs and concerts of Adam in the US that it is the older fans that are front row and they are not giving room for the younger fans. Of course this isn't Adam's fault as the system is just that the VIP spots cost the most and the older fans have the most money, but it isn't helping Adam gaining a more younger fan base.
In Europe it was a bit different and that's also why you see much more younger fans here. Idol didn't reach here (or hardly), and most people found Adam through Whataya Want From Me. A young guy singing songs like a Shawn Mendes is doing now. He gained a lot of younger fans back then and if you see the crowd for the Glam Nation concert in Amsterdam you see the average age is pretty young. But after that Adam disappeared. They didn't play him on the radio. He didn't do any performances here (or close to nothing). The most loyal fans went to Finland for that only concert in the TP era, but a lot couldn't and never heard from him. Until Ghost Town came along. Which gave Adam a big push again here, but after that he sorta disappeared again.
A lot of young fans here have moved on because of that. The most fans I know here are fans who got to Adam through the QAL concert in 2015 and are somewhat older. The young fans I know are the most loyal ones who have been there since WWFM, but they are also growing up and getting busy with work and other stuff. They will still support Adam, but at a much lower pace than they used to.
Just my two cents.

there are alot of small actors as well yes...Daniel Radcliffe for example... ...and it's Bieber not Beiber...are we over that yet? sorry for the rant but it just annoys me that people who have probably not even spent two or three hours watching his performances or interviews and gave him a chance just read gossip sites like TMZ...I just think it's a cheap cheap shot, because it's somehow cool, legitimate etc. to hate on the guy... how is he suppost to behave well when he's shown nothing but disrespect?! First I just wish people would be more honest that they themselves wouldn't have turned out any better had that life happened to them...and second...we as Adam fans are very protective of our favorite guy and dislike when people judge him without really knowing him...same should apply for other artists!!!
I watched a bit of the MTV Awards...I stand firmly with that I think Adams is very successful and that one should be careful what one wishes for, fame can become very limiting. But watching those performances I can't help but feel a little wistful. I loved Pinks speech, but I'm just not feeling her new song. I love alot of her songs actually I just don't get what the lyrics are trying to tell me and she has her sound and it's starting to all sound quite similar. I didn't get what Demi was trying to tell me I didn't feel the song and her outfit had me like wtf (ok, to be fair, Adams do too sometimes lol). I thought Alisa Cara removing her make-up and gown on stage was a strong moment. Shwan radiates his usual love for what he does. Shawn and Pink...their voices seemed to crack/fade away a little, not sure if it was technical issues or if it's just me. Ed Sheeran...I'm not a big fan of his music. I like "lego house" and "shape of you" has great beat...but I have out most respect for what he does. I think there has never been someone like him playing stadiums with just a backdrop, loopstation and guitar...no dancers, no band...

He didn't start out with a strong teenage fan base. It was always a mix of Idol viewers who fell in love with him and just couldn't let go. Glad that Europe and Asia discovered him in a somewhat different context (non-Idol) and saw just saw great singer with a wonderful personality. But lots of male singers in their 30s and 40s maintain strong fan bases. Adam can do it, too. I don't think his focus was ever on a young teen audience to begin with. He needs some non-music exposure, IMO. Some acting, some TV that shows his engaging personality. There should be a future for him beyond churning out albums and trying to break into the top 40.

I think there has never been someone like him playing stadiums with just a backdrop, loopstation and guitar...no dancers, no band... I'm sorry that when I typed my post there was a typo in Bieber. It seems that the mis-spelling that resulted had a meaning that I am not aware of since you said "are we over that yet?" I have no knowledge about how that mis-spelling somehow is derogatory. I meant no disrespect to him or his fans. Perhaps your issue is that I referred to him with just his last name. Again, no disrespect, just typing fast and he is often referred to by just one name. I've always thought that was a sign of his vast success. I was by no means hating on anyone. Also, I, too, think that Adam is very successful. The conversation was simply about what it takes for singers to be at the level where they sell out arenas. Believe me I know that Adam is extremely successful in the music world even if he is not playing arenas. I have a son, the same age as Adam, who has made his living in music. His band has put out 6 albums, had music on tv shows, been on Letterman and Fallon, yet he makes a small fraction of what Adam makes. And yet my son's level of success is extraordinary in the music field simply because he has supported himself touring original music for 12 years. I do not need Adam to be selling out arenas to know that he is very successful. peace&love
