Sam didn't come out until Stay With Me was HUGE in he UK & getting a good start in the US. He was not out when Stay With Me first came out. IDK, if it would have made a difference. no way to tell. US radio seems to love UK artists, so he probably would have gotten the play here no matter what. Good point Pattihum I just hope the RCA guy who moved over to Warner after ,Adam's move ,won't have a negative effect on Adam's new music. Hope Warner puts money and muscle into getting the songs played

It seems Adam was exploring his sexuality on stage long before IDOL - HAIR, ZODIAC, and a few other productions - remember that dance number with the red pants?? In fact, I would venture to say that Adam's IDOL performances were a return to his high school drama department days but with a more polished voice and stage presence. So, he was already out front and center with whom he was and to start out "hiding" like so many others - I guess it may not have been a choice for him - he was already out and very comfortable. I think it really threw him when he came out (once again) after IDOL and his fears were realized when that was all anyone wanted to talk about. He just wanted to sing and didn't want to make a big deal out of it. Remember when he said that he didn't want to be the poster child for the gay community. Then, he got flack about that - the magazine article, the live TV performance, the ABC shun. He did pay a price; one that other performers are not so willing to take. And, I really can't question their motivation to do so, as you see what pressures result from trying to be honest.
The story about UNDERNEATH being recorded after that phone call is just sad. I very recently listened to that album again and was stunned once again by his rendering of that song. I still hate the over production towards the end but I still find myself so wrapped up into the words and meaning.

I just wanted to share a nice story. My boyfriend and I are baseball fans and sometimes at games we get to see a live proposal. Well, at the last game that we went to there was yet another live proposal but this one was different from all of the previous ones that I had seen because instead of Jack proposing to Jill, Susan proposed to Carol. It was just like all of the other proposals because Susan got down on one knee and offered an engagement ring in a box to Carol who accepted the ring and then it ended with them kissing while we all watched on the jumbotron enormous screen. I did my usual screaming, applauding and clapping and I was joined by other members of the crowd also cheering on the newly engaged couple. I did wonder, however, if two guys kissing would have been as totally accepted as two women were. I certainly hope so and look forward to more happy couples of any gender sharing their love at a baseball game. Thanks for sharing your story. I like it. I too wonder if the baseball crowd - largely male, I assume - would cheer on two men kissing after one proposed to the other. I can imagine that the reaction would be a bit different.

Mzsue....
As an aside...re: Adam in the pink dress...If I remember correctly, Adam and Brad dressed up for a best costume event and Adam won first prize of 200.00 at a time when he was flat broke and needed the cash. Adam has said he does not do drag. It would be the same as any guy dressing up like a cheerleader etc for Halloween, which was done back in the day. Nowadays offence is taken dressing up with another cultures garb... Ie a geisha ...which I did for years as I had a wig and a great kimino from a group skating number.
I acrually was quite ticked off ( as was Adam) when Adam was asked to do a shoot for OUT magazine...that was a take off on Elvis Presley with a guns in a holster. Adam had no idea they were going to photoshop the image which was in brown tones in real life -- to have bright blue and red clothes and huge painted red lips. I thought it was extremely disrespectful that he unaware that was the direction they went with the picture. No one else in the article was portrayed like that.
We can barely figure out Adam ourselves at times...haha...but at least I would hope Adam has more of a voice in projects as he grown into a celebrity.

About Adam in comparison to Sam... I think it is hard to compare, and it may help us all to remember that there is no particular recipe for becoming a superstar. It all depends so much on luck, connections, and being at the right place at the right time. Adam popped onto the scene as a sparkly unicorn - and he was way more than just sexy. In fact, there was a particular time at the beginning of his recording career where pushing buttons was more important for him than excelling with vocally driven songs. Sam Smith's path was different. Sexuality was not in the forefront and he had instant mainstream appeal with his music. He had a few songs that connected and he is established by now and probably free to take more risks. If he loses a few fans, he will still have a solid fanbase. He is not the vocalist that Adam is, but as frustrating as it may be for many of us, we all know that singing talent isn't the most decisive factor in making it. And it seems to me that someone's stunning looks and sex appeal can't outshine the other either. May be because that person is still too much of a hidden treasure.
About Idol. I adore Ada Vox because her story as well as her personality are compelling, and her performances so far have been visually stunning and vocally superb. But, regardless how far Ada makes it, it will likely be a tough path in terms of a recording career. May be I am wrong. But I think that Idol is almost like a game show - isn't that what Eber originally thought it was? - people get invested quickly and visuals, life performances, backstories, and a bit of drama help. Once the show is over, a new thrill starts and only a handful of artists have lasting impact. However, I would argue that there are many Idol alumni besides the most successful ones, who make a much better living now than before Idol, even with smaller fanbases, and I have no doubt that Ada's future is secure. In terms of "whole package" and a recording career, I think other contestants have a better shot this season. Jurnee is a good example.

Some SAS gigs (Spike's band.) August 19th, Sept. 11 & 12th. Cher starts Oct. 31st. Bruno is there late July. Queen Extravaganza starts Oct. 30th in UK. Tyler has to be there for that. Maybe some clues here to the Vegas possible times? So QAL can only be after August 19th ending before mid Sept. (Too short & too tight, IMO)
