Adam mention. I like Ada. Will be interesting to see how he does going forward. Not sure how the voting will go....he's kinda throwback IMO. Might be interesting/beneficial for him to sing as Adam as well as Ada. Historically, LGBT contestants have gone a long way on Idol, which has made stars of musicians like Adam Lambert and Clay Aiken. But none has yet won the competition. However, Sanders, with the help of Vox, appears up to the challenge.www.advocate.com/television/2018/4/17/could-drag-queen-win-american-idol

We talked yesterday about Adam's "Underneath" and how it was such a beautiful emotional song that some of us wished could have been heard by someone other than fans. I remember when I first heard it I was overwhelmed. Then when I read the interview about it, and the writers who wrote it with Adam, I understood why it cut so deep. IMO, this is the type of song that could win awards if given a chance to be widely heard. Lambert described this revealing, piano-driven ballad to AOL Music as, "probably one of the more vulnerable songs on the album." He explained: "Trespassing kind of has two halves; one half is very upbeat, fun, funky with lots of attitude and swagger and fierceness, and then the other half of the album does dive into what lies under the surface. 'Underneath' is the song that is the pinnacle of that. It talks about how sometimes, even if I'm putting on a game face, or seemingly happy and confident, what's going on underneath might not be so much the same. I mean we all have demons that we battle, we all have stuff and baggage, and the song kind of addresses it directly." One of the credited writers is a surprising name. Veteran songwriter Tom Shapiro has been a prominent songwriter on the Nashville scene since the 1970s, and has over 20 country chart toppers on his resume, including hits recorded by Sara Evans, Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban. Josh Crosby and Robert Marvin produced this track. In our interview with the song's co-writer Catt Gravitt, she explained that Lambert stopped recording during the session so he could take a call from VH1, which was doing a "behind the scenes" report on him. Lambert came back distraught because the network spent very little time discussing his music and focused the story on his being gay. "We all had this beautiful discussion about all of us, and him really sharing his vulnerabilities, and then he got back up to the microphone and sang that song," Gravitt said. "I truly think the world of that guy. He really was bearing his soul that day, and when I listen to him sing that song, it just kills me." www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=26272

But then again, most of the straight artists on these shows have not hit it big either, at least not in proportion to their numbers. Adam had buzz, lots of press attention and star potential working for him thru his run on Idol. But Billy Gillman, 2nd place on The Voice, was a child star in country. When he grew up he could not find a place in country music as an adult plus he was gay so the attempted comeback was even harder. He tried to switch to pop tho he is better suited for country. He has not received a record deal and is on the indie circuit like most everyone else from TV and Idol. It is so difficult. Hope for the best for Ada and Jurnee.
