I watched the video and I'm angry.
I've checked out all albums for their writers of a few pop acts of the recent years. Yes a lot of writers is a problem. Mostly there are four or more writing credits. I've heard what Max Martin did to the song "the original high". I will not deny that there is a problem. There is!
BUT to say that today "untalented" people become famous/artists/musicians is flat out arrogant and presumptuous.
Music is something so deep ingrained in human nature. Rhythm, movement and melody have a accompanied humanity since the early tribes. My personal believe is, that anyone who wants to make music and is willing to work hard should be allowed to. I can simply not agree with the suggestion that some acts should just "fade away" again. Any successful artist (Painter, musician, writer, etc) will tell you it's 1% talent and 99% hard work. No classical singer simply sang opera, no instrumentalist simply picked up an instrument and played in a band or an orchestra.
Yes the top40/top 100 billboard have increasingly similar but NEVER has it been easier to dig into spotify and social media and find indie artists who do it themselves. But that is the question: How many people do that? With all the social media out there I think there is room for everyone like never before.
I've said this before and I will say this again: The popular teen acts ARE talented. If you like it or not. I know some people on here are weary of them because they get all th attention and "not Adam".
Shawn Mendes has improved SO much on guitar and has stepped up his game vocally. Miley is a fantastic vocalist, playes piano + guitar. Justin Bieber is such a great instrumentalist and yes I wish he would take vocal lessons with a good coach.
Not a teen act, but Gaga has an insane voice and also plays piano very well and guitar.
Here is what I've found with my survey:
If you look at Bieber and Mendes yes, you have four or more writers on one song. Bieber has two songs on Believe who have only him and one other person as writers. Even Journals has a lot of credits to each song. Mendes has one song on his fist album (Handwritten) that has only him as writer and one other song with only two credits, others songs have three or more credits.
Rihanna has two to three songs on each album with only two writers, the rest have more credits.
With Ed Sheeran it's the other way around. He has like three songs on each where there are more than two people credited.
Tori Kellys two EPs also have only two to three credits per song. Her first full album has more credits.
To sum up, yes, there is a problem but I think the guy in the video went overboard and it got defaming.
