An important factor that determines a singer's success imo, is the listeners' perception of them. It's been mentioned here plenty of times that people's perception of Adam as a TV singing competition alum is probably hindering his radio success. Singing with Queen helps solidify his reputation as one of the best voices in the world. Now that that's done, another way of making people take him more seriously is by fixing his image as a song writer. As unjustified as it is that people don't think much of someone who's "just" a singer (unless the singer is a really hot woman...), people would take him more seriously if they know he does write. I wonder if making him a judge in that song writing competition is his management way of achieving just that. Not sure why Adam would need his image fixed as a songwriter. His fans know that he co-writes most of his material. Some of his best works are songs co-written by him, imo. The media often refers to him as a singer songwriter. In interviews he often answers questions about the type of songs he is writing. Fans listening on the radio or watching award show performances don't care who wrote a song as long as they hear it and like it. US radio does not play him enough to be heard on the level of many of the hit makers. If he were played more often, had bigger hits and received nominations then the songwriters would be acknowledged and his name would be there. Never felt he was not taken seriously tho. He is more in demand and has more opportunities than his radio play it seems. He is highly respected. So I don't think it is his songwriting that is going unrecognized. He is just not being played and heard nearly enough in the US.

It hasn't seemed to affected Fifth Harmony, Camila Cabello, or Pentatonix. Or anyone from the UK.
ETA: I don't know if Pentatonix is played on radio as I don't listen to it, but it certainly hasn't affected their success. They have multiple Grammy's, don't they?

Radio is really tough even for some of the top pop singers.. i.e.I read it took like 6 months of arm twisting ,etc. to get 'Happy' on the air www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbZSe6N_BXs

Ask 10 people on the street what tv show they were on, then ask them what tv show Adam Lambert was on. #1 show for years in world's largest country makes a difference.

Nor did it hurt Carrie or Kelly. Adam is one of the highest profile Idols but it has not always been reflected in radio play in the US. He was not even on Idol during their biggest heydays but fell somewhere in the middle. He did make a big splash tho. But who wrote the songs and where they came from certainly has nothing to do with radio play for Adam.. Kelly writes very little of her work. And no one is talking about what a fantastic songwriter Carrie is. ID guys have no problem getting radio play. And there is no one on the planet who would not know they came from XFactor. Excuses that carry no weight re radio play.

So it's because American Idol was more known than X Factor or Sing Off is why Adam doesn't get radio play? Are you saying those other acts are hugely successful and/or get radio play because people don't know they came from a TV talent show?
